THE BROWNS BOARD

Direct TV, Direct Ticket

So I have been back and forth with Direct TV to get the Direct Ticket streaming through my Laptop.

I can not get a signal for Direct TV where I live and even had them out to my house, and they verified that satellite signal could not be found.

Now they say that not eligible to get the package streaming because I do not meet the requirements even though we did it last year.

WTF?

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions what I can do to get the Brown's games at my house? I live in Raleigh NC.

Do you or your family have a video game system like PS3 or xbox360 or higher? I think they are offering a promotion through those systems for $240 that is not affiliated with the online only promo. The 'catch' is you can only stream through that system, but I'm thinking about doing it.

I think I'll do the same and stream through my X1. I've had to watch games the last 4 years on shitty illegal streaming sites. Done with that.

The new NFL Sunday Ticket "streaming package" is nothing but a big joke.

While it wasn't previously advertised openly, DirectTV used to allow potential customers who couldn't get the dish installed (due to signal reception, homeowners association rules etc) to sign up for the streaming on computers and devices like the PS3.

Now that they have "advertised"the streaming package, that option is no longer available. No, streaming service is limited to people who live in designated apartment buildings and a few urban areas.

Meanwhile, they are giving the impression that they are now somehow relaxing their grip. It's hard to believe that in this day and age where we should be more open and encourage competition, Direct TV can behave in this blatantly monopolistic and ultimately counter productive manner. More so, I'm surprised that the NFL abides by this. I suppose as long as we play along they will have no reason to change their ways.

My thoughts exactly. They have the perfect monopoly. Like we're going to boycott DTV and miss the games so they lose their grip, yea right

I used Gamepass last year (from Korea) and it was pretty nice. This year, I am in Shanghai, China and purchased NFL Game Rewind for $40. I won't be able to watch live, but the games would be on at 1am or 4am here anyhow so it works out alright.

I got it figured out. My Fiance's daughter has direct TV. We will but the max package for her, and we will then have the access codes to stream it.

Yup to many trees in the way outside of my property.

LOL, put in a Ham radio tower high enough to reach over the trees. (Bet the installer would balk.) Or get a chainsaw and cut 'em down. :)

Here another option- if you have a friend that can get the games somehow. http://www.sling.com/ My friend in Cleveland uses this gadget to shoot the games to his daughter in St. Louis, and his brother in Myrtle Beach. It apparently works fine.

Oh, I could go on a long diatribe against D*s Sunday Ticket policy. They'll give it to you free for your first year as a loss leader- after that here's the $300 bill. I've heard you can get it at a reduced rate or free- if you threaten to cancel your service- I haven't tried that route. Wouldn't work for me, as I just upgraded to a Genie- which means I signed up for another 24 months.

You have to understand though- the reason Direct is getting pissy about things is (I think) the exclusive contract with the NFL is up for renewal- and Goodell is making overtures to make it non-exclusive. Great for consumers- not so much for Directv. BTW, D* shelled out something like $4 billion for the exclusive contract the last go-around. You can bet it will be more this time.

Me too man, all through college that was my out. Truthfully 75-80% of the time those sites work well. But you can only go through the feed crapping out in critical moments so many times before you have enough. If the video game system packages works out at $240, that's still a good deal in my eyes. Even at $20 per game at the bar (which is low balling it) it breaks even accounting for the food/beer I buy at home. Here in NC there's also little to no fun at the bar because at best there's two-three other Browns fans there and they relegate the game 95% to the crappy TV in the back. With the at home option I can drink all I want, grill up a delicious game day meal and invite my pops over to yell with me. It's all a matter of perspective though I suppose, but direcTV and the NFL know they have us NFL diehards by the balls. Why would they change it?
