This is exactly why I'm so baffled that people think the draft picks are worth so much. What makes people think those picks will be productive?

I have been saying the same thing. If Bill Walsh or Belichick were making these picks I would not have any worries.

are you saying that Mike Lombardi made all these picks by himself?

Any pick that was made in Oakland was made by Al Davis. He had very little input there

Answer to #1...Nope, not necessarily, but surely he had input.

Answer to #2...Probably, but all that shows is Lombardi is nothing but a sneaky little "yes man". He certainly didn't perform his duties capably.

Bottom line is that if that history belonged to a GM candidate interviewing with you, do you hire him? On paper, he is "at BEST" unqualified for the position he now holds.

My point is that I expect "consistency" as Jimmy promised us. If Lombardi DOESN'T perform to Jimmy's HIGH STANDARDS, his ass should be gone too & if Lombardi gets canned, then Banner should be GONE for TWO shitty hires...HC AND GM.

Mike

The next Browns coach will be _____Jay Gruden____________________

The next Browns coach should be ___John Gruden_________________________

Gruden is friends with Haslem, why not recruit his brother. I like his coaching background and his evaluation of talent, hopefully we interview him.

And the most messed up thing is we still have yet to hit rock bottom.

What happens when we don't land our 1st 2nd 3rd choice as Coach this year the same as last year, when Lombanner busts the entire draft?

The new HC Dwayne "the rock" Johnson will 'rock-bottom' lombanner for being Rudy-poo candy ass jabronies!

our glorious leader will proceed by showing jimmy h the peoples elbow and yelling IT DOESNT MATTER IF YOU BOUGHT THE BROWNS, IM IN CHARGE!

IF YOU SMELL ELL ELL ELL ELLL ELL OWWW WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKING!!!

I'm not big on Jay Gruden.

Frankly, I bet lot of bungle fans would say they're displeased with their offense given the amount of talent too.

I wish we'd get a real coach, but I doubt it. We'll get a first year coordinator coaching and not let him develop and repeat.

I like John Gruden, but I doubt anyone named gruden or cowher will be the next HC.

The next coach will not be Jon Gruden.

Jon Gruden’s name often is quick to the tongue of fans watching their teams suffer through coaching upheaval. The Browns chased him some last offseason, and at least Detroit and Houston have been mentioned as possibilities should Gruden want to return to the NFL ranks.

But Gruden, currently ESPN’s Monday Night Football analyst, quickly quashed those rumors in an interview with the Pioneer Press.

“I don’t want to be considered for any of these jobs,” Gruden told Chris Tomasson. “I don’t want to be considered for anything. There are plenty of good candidates out there. I’m just sick for the guys who can no longer coach their teams. … I’m hoping to do the best I can to hang on to my job.”

Who knows if Gruden would hold to those comments should a franchise come calling with an aggressive pitch. Gruden last coached in the NFL in 2008, his seventh season with Tampa Bay. He won the Super Bowl in his first year there, after moving over from Oakland.

BLACK MONDAY TRACKER: Updates on latest firings, rumors

CBS’ Jason LaCanfora actually reported last week that Gruden could be “drawn to the possibility” of returning to Oakland. La Canfora also mentioned Atlanta as a landing spot that might intrigue Gruden.

Neither of those jobs are currently open, with Dennis Allen still in position in Oakland and Mike Smith apparently set to return for the Falcons. Of the six openings that have become available (Tampa Bay, Houston, Detroit, Minnesota, Washington and Cleveland), the Buccaneers’ gig figures to be out considering that Gruden was fired by the current ownership group.

Gruden’s possible financial demands could price him out of the picture for the others listed there.

Gruden’s brother, Jay, may be in line for a head coaching job himself this offseason. He’s been the Bengals’ offensive coordinator for the past three seasons and was a Buccaneers assistant from 2002-08.

im sorta surprised nobody offers billick a job

WOW!!

now a rookie comes in and makes all the sense in the world.

billick has more knowledge of football in his left toe nail than mcdaiels, schwartz, smith or anyone still on our staff has in their bowels.

I'd love that, not sure he's interested or what I haven't heard his name.

I'm not surprised. He has been out of work since 2007 for a reason. I'm not sure the reason, but the NFL does know

The Browns also have reached out to Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.

Would be pretty funny if we hired the cardinals D coordinator 2 years in a row. Maybe we get Bowles and get a chance to do it 3 years in a row.

I don't like any of the names spewed out so far.

Best coaching prospect out there at any level is .... (drum roll) ..... (wait for it!) ..... Peyton Manning. He just set most of the big records and if he wins a Super Bowl this season there isn't much more to accomplish as a player, buy him out of his player contract and bring him in. The guy is the best mind in football right now, is a hard-nose leader, and plays the game with no show-boating like it should be played.

What a great post, AND he would bring INSTANT credibility to an organization that has NO credibility.

Jimmy, Joe, & Mike.......Are you reading this?

Billick has said on numerous podcasts that I've heard with him that his coaching days are over. He enjoys the tv work and the fact that he still gets to be in an NFL stadium on Sundays and his team never loses.

While we're on the subject of TV guys though...what about Mariucci?

Serious question. Is there realistically anyone who would be better than McDaniels. Yes Lovie or Wisenhunt would be better, but is there a chance they would come here? Not in my opinion. Anyone who has had success will pick teams like Houston or Detroit. They are ready to win now and just need a couple pieces.

McDaniels may not be the best coach to have, but he's not the worst either. I don't see a Tebow like draft if he's the guy either. No way Banner lets anyone else control the draft... Which could be a hole other problem in itself.

I don't think he's some offensive guru anyway...Peyton Manning is the real Broncos OC!

EXACTLY !

Mariucci is a pussy, great attribute to get hired by the dimwitted duo, but terrible for the actual "coaching" of the team.

Won't be: Norv Turner, Ray Horton, Lovie Smith, Jon Gruden, Nick Saban, Jack Del Rio, Mike Shanahan, Bill Cowher

Will be: Josh McDaniels

Should be: Josh McDaniels

Our coach needs to be the guy out FO wants, whether or not we as fans agree with it. This way, we'll at least have some continuity. They won't fire their guy after one bad season, they won't use him as a scapegoat or try to have him shoulder all the blame. If Josh McDaniels fails, the entire FO goes with him. If he succeeds, we'll have a winning team in Cleveland.

If they go out and get some guy they don't really want, then we'll just see the same shit we've been seeing.

Except, of course, Chud was also "their guy"....and they did all those things to him.

Rooney Rule ... get the interview with the Black guy out of the way early so you can then hire who you want.
