Who won "National Title" at HS level?

Recommended Posts

I remember back in the 1960s I believe it was the AP and now long extinct UPI news bureaus did the writers and coaches polls and did that every year they also ranked the Ohio championship teams.

My alma Mater NILES MCKINLEY RED DRAGONS were #1 in 1961 and 1963 in both and #2 in 1966 my junior year and ranked in the top 10 nationally.

I quit getting the USA TODAY a few years back but they listed the high school top 25 I think they might have used:

Oh I just checked USA TODAY :

Super 25 Computer rankings are provided by Ken Massey. The ratings are designed to reward teams for their performance, and objectively quantify those performances. Strength of schedule is built into the model. The model also corrects for home field advantage. Teams lose less for a loss on the road and gain more for a win on the road. Margin of victory also is factored in. Because some of the data is based on past performances, the computer will be more accurate as the season progresses. Once a team plays three games, the computer can better slot how it stacks up against teams nationally. Note: Click "National" dropdown to select your state.

This must be last year, as it has St. Eds winning the State title, which they didn't Cincinnatti St. Xavier did.

So, per USA Today Bishop Gorman, Las Vegas NV is "mythical" national Champ.

A lot of perennial football powerhouses on that list.

Also shows the shift in population over the past ~50 years redistributing the power teams largely to the South and West.
