Most Overrated "Star" In Football

Yeah... but even stars can't maintain their level of play once injuries begin to mount...

Yep, just ask Myles about that dropoff from 2014 and 2015 to 2016. BTW I am now dealing with a high ankle sprain and it has definitely affected my ability to get to balls up front in racquetball and I don't even have 300 lb linemen trying to prevent me from getting there. Very hard to push off with my right leg.

I love OSU and it probably is Zeke. He's good, but there's probably at least 10 guys in the league who could do what he did behind that O line.

This post probably says more about my view about modern day RBs than anything else...

I understand where you're coming from, but the year in between Murray and Zeke was pretty bad for Dallas' running game behind the same line basically. But someone like Bell or Johnson or etc... could possibly do even better. You can't teach running around, through or over people like Zeke can though.

I agree, it's not like just anyone can be a successful running back simply because of a great O Line, but every year there is a mid round or UDFA RB who goes off.

Edit: and I don't want it to sound like I'm a zeke hater, because he's a bad ass RB, but no RB is worth a top 10 pick imo.

For example, no one can improve the Crow's vision to separate him into the "great" RB's. He still will miss the open holes often enough when this "new" line opens a few more for him. Now if he were a great back he'd have that vision and anticipate them every play. Sooner or later the Browns will have to get a great back.

EDIT: I am partial to Chubb or Guice

JJ Watt

His picture is on milk cartons after big games. Showboat, dancing, Herman Munster, look at me axxhole in regular season games. Hey Dipshit, you are getting paid millions to go out and make plays. Cant stand watching a Texans game because the commentary drones on ad naseum about his life and what he had for breakfast.

If I am not mistaken, Ford Motor company builds a Texas pickup truck so his beloved fans can drive around Houston worshiping this clown.

LOL! If he played for Cleveland you'd be getting a "Signature" Chevy made in an Ohio factory. :P

You should be gloriously happy about the fate of JJ Watt. I mean, it is entirely possible that if he had played the Pats in that playoff game he and Clowney would have played smear the queer with Tom Brady..knocking him out of that game. Then you would have had to rely on Scott Mitchell....errr Jimmy Regurgitatopollo to win that game. Wouldn't happen.

Pearls of wisdom from the most overrated poster on the board.

At least I have a rating.

You would be among the UDFAs around these parts.

And all I am saying is that JJ Watts injuries helped the team you allegedly root for...Patriots.

Do you not think that game would not have been a closer contest with him in there?

It was a one score game until the mid 4th quarter no? Watt would have made no difference?

Then...if you say a superior DE makes no difference in a game, then why were all these people on here all become Homo Erectus over our #1 draft pick?

Sherman and Norman are seemingly good picks although I consider Norman as more of a one year wonder type. With Sherman, I get more of a system CB feel. I wouldn't bet on him killing it elsewhere if he is traded but he's good in Seattle's system. I'm not sure if that makes him overrated or not. I guess it depends on how highly you rank him to begin with. You could make a solid case for Haden as well unfortunately. Obviously injuries have hurt him but I think this year will be important in terms of figuring out if can regain his form or if he just had a short career peak.

I don't think Flacco really qualifies. Well at least not to me. I never viewed him as a star to begin with. A more apt QB would be Eli in my opinion. At WR, I'd have to go with Sammy Watkins. I wasn't a big fan of him coming out of college so I might be a tad biased but I think still think he's overrated. I really can't think of any RB's or TE's who fit the bill. I guess you could throw in Jimmy Graham but I still think he's solid. Maybe not other worldly as he was in NO but you still have to account for him.

I still don't quite understand how Luck has made this list. He has T.Y and a bunch of other small-ish receivers, a shitty line, a shitty D, and little to no run game. The fact that, when healthy, he's been able to get the Colts to the playoffs is rather impressive. For those calling him a overrated, I highly doubt you'd pass up the opportunity to see him in a Brown's uniform.

Dak, in my view, is in the Russell Wilson, is he really that good conundrum after Wilson's first year. Wilson has proved he belongs but Dak still has some work to do. Zeke still has work to do as well. If he has a slow start this year, the questions will start popping up. Granted, throwing a first year player into this topic isn't necessarily fair either.

JJ is overrated as a spokesman but not as a football player. His biggest sin is that he's just fucking annoying. We get it, you work out.

I actually agree with JJ. Don't get me wrong, he is a great player, but instead of going with a second tier player and calling him a star that's overrated, I think he qualifies. Houston basically sacrifices the players around him so he can get the stats. I have heard it mentioned by several ex nfl d-lineman that a lot of players in the league would have better stats if they were allowed to do whatever they wanted to get to the qb without any lane responsibilities. We got one of their ex lineman last year and they asked him about it and he just said "no comment". Plus as far as the elite pass rushers go, he seems to get a lot more sacks of the variety where the qb gets flushed right into him. Not saying he isn't great, just don't think he is a good like most seem to think.

Who in the shit is dumb enough to say JJ Watt?

With a backup of Andrew Luck. The kid that took a 1 win team to the playoffs his rookie year before a dearth of weapons and Oline play got him killed.

Psst When they won a single game they were sandbagging. Remember?

Texas edition pick up trucks have been around far longer than JJW.

Pretty sure Painter was painfully aware of the circumstances... as was Kerry Collins' 39-yo body...

... and pssst... those Colts won two of their last three games...

Ghoolie is the King. Never be another.

I'd say that was confirmation...

Houston basically sacrifices the players around him so he can get the stats.

League history is full of Defensive stars that that were so great their "freelancing" was green-lighted...

Also overused,"there's no Andrew Luck in this draft".Really ? What ever reason/excuse people want to use, Lucks not who I would reference for #1 sure fire success until I've actually seen it.

Cam Newton instead? At least he took his team to a Superbowl.

In fact, in the history of football drafts, the following players who were #1 overall picks at QB are the ones that have taken their team to a championship game:

Joe Namath AFL draft

Terry Bradshaw

Jim Plunkett

John Elway

Troy Aikman

Drew Bledsoe #

Peyton Manning

Eli Manning

Cam Newton #

Each of these players won a title except those marked # whose team lost in their only title game appearance (so far..in Newton's case)

My overrated stars would be Eli Manning and Andy Dalton.....

and, instead of JJ Watt, how about his counter part Clowney....?....

I'd have Manning as the most overrated football player but the star thing has me going elsewhere. Has Eli done a commercial without Peyton? And that is a serious question, not being sarcastic.

bent rapistbooger. tosses a 7 yard lob yo a wide open ant brown and squealer "fans" think he's Y. A. Tittle

I don't think Ben is overrated. Look how bad they are without him. He might not be pin-point accurate but I think of him as a top 5 qb in the league. Off the top of my head only Brady (ughh) and Rodgers are the only ones I would take over him.

Clowney is still considered by many to be a bust, so how can he be an overrated "star". I think most have an optimistic outlook on him though as he has shown flashes, but he needs to show he can stay healthy. He is a big name because of his measurables, but nfl star, not so much.

"there's no Andrew Luck in this draft" is in reference to him coming out of college not what he's done in the NFL.

And what would be the purpose of this evaluation ? The whole "Luck" phenomena was projected NFL success. If not, who the hell would WANT to be the next "Andrew Luck" ?....or does being the "Andrew Luck of the draft" now mean, pouting, beat up and underperforming.....for whatever reason/excuse.

Nominating JJ Watt as the most overrated star in the NFL is a clear indication of the poster's 1) lack of understanding of the game, and 2) thinly veiled hatred of the man. Damn boy, the guy is no Rapistberger.

I'd take 11 JJ Watts on defense and be happy to annually lead the league in fewest points allowed.

As far as the most overrated star I'd have to throw our very own Joe Haden into the mix. Following a season where he was anointed as one of the league's best shut down corners and rewarded with a huge contract reflecting that skill he hasn't been on the field enough to make a positive impact, let alone live up to his contract. His injuries have also apparently affected his play as he has only been a shell of himself when he's on the field. I love the guy and I sport his jersey on Sundays, but a star in the league he is not.
