mjp28
.....the season is almost 1/16th through or the equivalent of ONE NFL game. BUT the Indians will sneak up on NOBODY this year, the weak-ish ALC is out for blood.....especially Detroit. So Kluber the ace, stopper and probably best Indians pitcher in years will have to shine vs Verlander who also would like some revenge vs Cleveland. GO TRIBE, would be nice to wake up today. mjp28
Bauer, Tribe face sizzling Santana for Twins 1 pm EDST MLB.com | 8:15 AM ET A day after rain postponed Wednesday's scheduled game, the Indians and Twins will wrap up their series at Target Field with a matchup between right-handers Trevor Bauer and Ervin Santana. Bauer (0-2, 8.44 ERA) is looking for his first win of the season. He gave up six runs in five innings in his last start against Detroit. Santana, remaining on normal rest, gets the call for the Twins. The 34-year-old is off to one of the best starts in his 13-year career, dominating in the early going in '17 with a 3-0 record and 0.41 ERA. He's coming off a one-hit shutout of the White Sox in his last start, in which he fanned eight and walked one. • While Santana won't sustain his .074 batting average on balls in play all season -- his career mark is .284 -- he has done a good job of creating weak contact during his hot start. Opponents have averaged only an 82.7 mph exit velocity against him, the lowest mark among pitchers with at least 40 batted balls. • Bauer has induced grounders on only 15.2 percent of the batted balls against him through his first two starts -- dead last out of 146 MLB pitchers who have induced at least 25 batted ball events thus far. Last year, Bauer's ground-ball rate was up at 52.8 percent of his batted ball events allowed, which tied for 24th out of 105 pitchers who induced at least 400 BBE. • Minnesota's Joe Mauer (10-for-28) and Eddie Rosario (8-for-18) have found success against Bauer in the past, while teammates Brian Dozier (3-for-26) and Miguel Sano (1-for-17) have struggled against the Cleveland righty. mjp28
By Scott Merkin / MLB.com | @scottmerkin | April 20th, 201 Mother Nature has provided a marquee pitching matchup for Friday night's series opener between the Indians and White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field, with Corey Kluber and Jose Quintana facing off in a battle of struggling aces. Wednesday's game between the Indians and Twins was postponed due to inclement weather, moving Trevor Bauer back to a Thursday start. Kluber was then pushed back one day to Friday. The righty is 1-1 with a 6.38 ERA over three starts to open the season, allowing a total of five homers over those outings. Quintana enters with an 0-3 record and a 6.75 ERA. He has given up 13 earned runs over 17 1/3 innings, although 10 of them have come via a pair of five-run frames against the Tigers and Twins. Quintana threw a side session on Wednesday to get ready for his next trip to the mound. "Feel good, feel good," Quintana said. "I keep practicing my command and work on all of my strengths, never change. I'm turning the page on last time and focusing on Friday. "I worked on my curveball and changed speeds. But especially fastball in the corners." Things to know about this game • Todd Frazier continues to recover from a bout with the flu, which cost him six of the past eight games. White Sox manager Rick Renteria believes Frazier could be back in the lineup for the start of the Cleveland series. "He's still eating good. He's still gaining the strength," Renteria said. "He's available for us. I think we are just being a little more cautious this time." • The Indians scored seven total runs and had a .149 average with runners in scoring position (2-for-28) during the White Sox series win at Progressive Field from April 11-13. • Renteria was on crutches during the Yankees series and had bench coach Joe McEwing and pitching coach Don Cooper make the pitching changes. The manager was battling right knee soreness.

mjp28
Four game win streak gets you there....since the rest of the division is mediocre. Maybe one of the weakest in MLB especially when you consider the Indians all around team pitching, defense and maybe better hitting than in 2016 (if/when Encarnacion wakes up)....despite being the hunted they should beat on the rest. Only Detroit might give them some trouble.
