The Gipper
Here is my Post Super Bowl Team of the Decade Standings for the 2010s: Recall how this works: A team is awarded 10 points for winning the Super Bowl. They get 6 points for losing the SB. The teams that lose the conference title games get 3 points, and any other team that makes the playoffs gets 1 point. Ravens: 1+3+10 total 14 points Patriots: 1+6+3+3 total 13 points Packers: 10+1+1+1 total 13 points Seahawks 1+1+10 total 12 points 49ers 3+6+3 total 12 points Giants: 10 total 10 pts Broncos: 1+1+6 total 8 pts. Steelers: 6+1 total 7 pts Falcons: 1+1+3 total 5 pts Jets: 3 total 3 pts Bears: 3 total 3 pts Bengals: 1+1+1 total 3 pts Colts: 1+1+1 total 3 pts Eagles: 1+1 total 2 pts Chiefs: 1+1 total 2 pts Texans: 1+1 total 2 pts Lions: 1 pt. Redskins: 1 pt. Vikings: 1 pt. Panthers: 1 pt. Chargers: 1 pt. So, the Ravens are still in the lead despite not making the playoffs this year. But it is a wide open race. The Gipper
Note this: Obviously from the above there is no clear candidate for ulimate "team of the decade". It does not appear either that any sort of "Dynasty" is clearly in the making. In fact this is the first decade since the NFL was founded that did not have a repeat champion in the first 4 years of a decade. In the first 4 years of each decade the following teams repeated: 20s: Bulldogs 30s: Packers 40s: Bears 50s: Lions 60s: Packers 70s: Dolphins 80s: Raiders 90s: Cowboys 00s: Patriots. 2010s: each year has seen a different champion. Not all of the above teams ended up being the dominant team of that particular decade, but they were in the running. 20s: Bears overtook Bulldogs 50s: Browns overtook Lions 70s: Steelers overtook Dolphins 80s: 49ers overtook Raiders. but at least some kind of dynasty seemed to be taking shape those first 4 years.....but not this decade. CLEinCHI
It will be interesting to see how the back end of the decade treats these teams in the running, the logic you used yielded great results with the previous decades. My money is on the Seahawks or San Fran.
The Gipper
I am giving this thread a bump, since there will a recomputation for Team of the Decade after Sunday. The Patriots have 13 points going in....the Seahawks 12. The winner will take a clear lead, but the loser could still be in the hunt. Winner gets 10 pts, loser 6. Packers will get 3 pts. and will still be in the running, given that Aaron Rodgers is still pretty young. Ravens get a point, but will fall behind the Pats, Pack and Seahawks in the running. Will do full final compilation after Sunday. And FYI, this is actually the halfway point of the decade. 2010-2014 being the first 5 years, 2015 to 2019 the last 5.
