What has happened to Liberals? What happened to the 1960’s fun loving people that were all about sex, drugs, and rock n roll? They practically invented Free Speech at Berkeley and now they’re adamantly against it. They went from passing joints at Woodstock, having sex in public parks, protesting Nam, and just being free spirited fun loving people to smug, arrogant, campus elitist, fuckin bloggers, and vultures who’s only goal is to make everyone else’s life a living hell that doesn’t share their opinion or behaves in a manor they approve of. I used to picture a Liberal as some guy who drove a Volkswagen Van, loved surfing and beach campfires, and would tell stories how he got abducted by grey aliens after dropping acid at a Jefferson Airplane Concert which is a cool and interesting thing to tell people. They’re nothing like that now. It’s some doofus schmuck in a Tweed Jacket who speaks like Mr. Van Dreesen from Beavis & Butthead. Liberal thought policing and Political Correctness is ruining everything fun about this country and has reached a point of insanity. It's embarrassing. As a social Liberal myself it’s sad to see the direction this party has gone. We traded Jimmy Hendrix for Al Sharpton, We traded Janis Joplin and Grace Slick for Sally Kohn and Rachel Maddow, we traded Cocaine for Rogaine, we traded camping out on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial for grass fed-organic-gluten free tartar control cat food for senior citizen cats. For me I found what I was looking for and real with my Christian faith. It has been 33 years for me in my Christian walk and I have never looked back after finding the reality I was looking for. I think some who were disillusioned and became Christians became a good force in the Church bringing in new ideas and idealism such as street ministries, contemporary Christian music and getting the church out of the four walls and into the community. Or at least the people that get into power have changed. But that is true of both Republicans and Democrats. It's easier for voters to accept the silly notion that Democrat = Liberal and Republican = Conservative than it is to examine a politicians track record, or to have a bit of introspection.
