Still whining about it after all this time. Truth is, the left demands monopolistic control over our public school system, because that is their way of gradual social engineering towards a dominant liberal control over our entire country. They failed to clinch the deal after eight scandal ridden years of obamao subterfuge. That is why they HATE any competition to their control over public education. They can subvert childen to their new age progressivism...if they aren't in their public schools. And Devoss is not unqualified - membership in teachers unions and being a leftwing liberal hack is not a qualification to most Americans. Her obvious bias towards private schools was apparent. She displayed no knowledge of common educational terminology, despite her claimed "education background". In order the examples of each point included: After initially stating that the states should decide the degree to which IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) is enforced, she was informed it was a federally mandated program for schools receiving federal funds. She then changed her answer to IDEA must be enforced. When pressed as to whether all schools, public, private and charter, should be held accountable to the same educational standards she avoided answering. When the question was restated to "I think they should be. Do you?" She replied, "No." When asked if she favored the use of student test scores to measure student proficiency or growth, an important, long-term debate, she clearly had no idea what the terms meant. She did not know enough to attempt to bluff an answer. And there was more such as her "soft" position on enforcing regulations governing "for profit" Universities and her ignorance of the relative performances of public vs. private schools in her home state, Michigan. In Michigan public outperforms private statewide. In short, DeVos is an unqualified ideologue. IMO, that's a dangerous combination to put at the head of $75 billion agency with 4400 employees.
