Mayweather vs McGregor fight - who's watching it? Betting lines.

AUGUST 19, 2017 - With a week to go until Saturday's Floyd Mayweather-Connor McGregor bout at T-Mobile Arena from Las Vegas, Nevada, the sports books are getting their game plans finalized for the fight of the year in their city. The risk is becoming the highest books collectively have even seen and could get larger which means there's a benefit for a few laying dirt cheap prices on Mayweather.

http://www.vegasinsider.com/boxing/story.cfm/story/1873462

Jason Simbal, the VP of risk management for CG Technology, said he expects to write four times as much action over the next week than what he's booked since opening June 15 with Mayweather -950 and McGregor +650. The past two days he's been flirting with one of the shortest prices in town.

"Since dropping to -490, with a +390 take-back on McGregor, we've had good two-way action which is a big change from what we had the last two months of betting where ticket counts were dominated by McGregor wagers," Simbal said. The short split CG books are using is one of the fairest in town.

"The average wager on McGregor is $131. The average wager on Mayweather is $5,100," he said.

The big question Simbal is going to have to come to terms with himself and his corporate bosses is how much risk they're willing to incur. Is it $250,000, $500,000 or $1 million?

"We've already accepted that we're willing to take a position by needing Mayweather to win, but how much that final number could be also depends on what happens with props. If McGregor wins, it's likely to be by knockout which pays 5/1 and is already a big risk for us, and they're betting if that happens that it will be in the specific rounds of round 1, 2 or 3. And those knockout rounds are large negatives," Simbal said.

The seven CG Technology sports books across Las Vegas took $3 million in action last year during the final week before the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. Will they write more for this bout?

"You know what, I think we might write more for this one," Simbal said in a surprised tone.

Wynn Resorts sports book director John Avello has also been taking big action already.

"We've taken 3 three-quarter million ($750,000) dollar bets," Avello said. "All on them on Mayweather, so that's given us an opportunity to be a winner with any outcome. I'm on a win-win now, but I don't expect it to be that way by fight night."

Avello has been telling his crew to be careful with the underdog risk and move accordingly. He's got the lowest price in town with Mayweather -475, which has been bet up from a record-low so far of -450 which Avello tried on Friday at Wynn and Encore books, which have just been completely refurbished.

"We got knocked down that low and immediately got some Mayweather money," Avello said of his move up to -475. "The reason we were at -450 was because a bettor I respect a lot took +425 on McGregor for a small wager, only $10,000. I was asking myself why this guy would be betting that side, but he's very sharp so it the amount he wagered didn't matter. I just respected the opinion."

Tony Miller's sports book at the Golden Nugget in downtown Las Vegas dipped their toes in the water on Friday going to -450 as well, and within four minutes they found takers and got the big wager they wanted and went back to -500.........CONTINUED IN LINK. ..........

Will Fight Make PPV History? August 17, 2017 By BetOnline.ag

As you can probably guess, the oddsmakers at BetOnline.ag have been busy building a prop market for every single angle of the heated match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. A lot of this is built on whats being said between the two, but now weve got some fun bets for the venom Dana White is spewing.

http://www.vegasinsider.com/boxing/story.cfm/story/1873182

Most have dubbed this tilt The Money Fight which makes it all the more interesting that White himself would project astronomical Pay-Per-View buy numbers when all is said and done.

So whats that number? Well White probably has his own target in mind but the gurus at BetOnline.ag have set the mark at 5 million viewers.

The current record for Pay-Per-View buys in a boxing match was established in 2015 when Mayweather fought Manny Pacquiao in a fight that many felt was about five years too late. The Mayweather-McGregor fight, on the other hand, is happening right at the apex of ones legacy and the others career.

Of course it helps to have one of the best promoters in the game wrangling up the numbers. Theres a lot of things boxing doesnt do," Dana White told the MMAjunkie.coms Steven Marocco. For instance, most of the time, youre dealing with a network. Networks arent too excited to go OTT. Its not a big thing theyre into. We have the capabilities, we do it all the time, and I believe were one of the best to do it. The numbers are tracking huge. Were going to do the numbers that everybody has been talking were going to do."

Total Pay-Per View Buys for Mayweather-McGregor at BetOnline.ag

Over 5 Million -165

Under 5 Million +135

Mayweather and Pacquiao have each been part of the biggest fights in Pay-Per-View boxing history. Numbers for Mayweathers fights actually dance around as much as he does. Hes done as high as 4.6M against Pacquiao, 2.4M against Oscar De La Hoya and 1.5M for his awesome bout against Cotto. To be fair, Mayweathers fight against Maidana in 2014 only drew 925,000 Pay-Per-View buys.

By comparison, McGregor doesnt have the same history that Mayweather does in terms of longevity but his results in the Pay-Per-View business are straight savage within MMA. McGregor is responsible for 4 of the top-5 UFC events in terms of buy rate. His second fight with Nate Diaz drew a record 1.6M, while his first fight with Diaz and his title match with Alvarez each drew 1.3M. The Aldo matchup also helped pull 1.2M buys.

The math is very tough to figure, but the hype surrounding Mayweather-McGregor is undeniable. It has lured in the mainstream in a way that Mayweather did with De La Hoya and Pacquiao. But the mouth on McGregor has driven this entire circus to a completely different level.

Is all that blabbering, trash talking and vitriol worth 5 million Pay-Per-Views? If you dont think so, that +135 has to be awfully tempting.

Head to BetOnline.ag to wager on whether or not Mayweather-McGregor will hit the projected 5 million Pay-Per-View buys!

So who's going to watch this PPV fight? Anybody?

And an unofficial poll:.

A. I think it will be a great fight, worth the money.

B. I think it probably will be OK.

C. I think it will stink no way I pay for PPV.

D. I have no interest whatsoever, no opinions.

Had it been a street fight McGregor probably would have won....but it was big money ballet advantage Mayweather.

All in all a joke to get Mayweather to 50-0 past Marciano. A true title defence vs a ranked opponent? No.

In wrapping this "entertainment event" up, an article from June 2017........

Mayweather, McGregor can sell a show
June 14, 2017
By The Associated Press

Nobody truly knows whether Floyd Mayweather's boxing match with Conor McGregor will turn out to be a unique spectacle or an overhyped debacle.

The only certainty is that the next 2+ months of hype will be a masterpiece of fight promotion from two of the best ever to play that game.

Mayweather and McGregor revealed their plan Wednesday to fight Aug. 26 in Las Vegas . In an appropriate move for a fight that grew into reality after two years of verbal jousting and several months of social-media skewering, the two titans of their respective sports confirmed the news on their Instagram accounts.

And in another preview of what everyone should expect during their summer of promotion, McGregor's post included his photo opposite Floyd Mayweather Sr., the boxer's 64-year-old father, with a straight-faced caption: ''THE FIGHT IS ON.''

Few athletes in recent sports history have sold their sports better than the imperious Mayweather and the loquacious McGregor.

Both fighters have spent years crafting outlandish public personae characterized by a few common themes: cartoonish arrogance, a fetishistic obsession with money and an eagerness to make reckless pronouncements about their opponents, their opponents' fans - and, increasingly, each other..........CONTINUED IN LINK. ........

Didn't think it was interesting and it didn't end any differently than most people would have guessed even though the odds were attracting the Bettors. Maybe a rematch under MMA rules?

Never happen.  Mayweather would never agree to getting his face and body pummeled at his age with 50 fights already in.....unless he gets $1/2 billion this time.

Oh I don't think it would never happen either. I'd like to see it though. But this bout was about as evenly matched as having Mark Spitz line up as a wide receiver.
