CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – Former Cleveland Guardians outfielder Kole Calhoun officially announced his retirement from Major League Baseball on Friday evening.
The 36-year-old spent more than ten years in MLB with four teams including the Angels, Diamondbacks, Rangers, and Guardians.
He made his retirement announcement on Instagram:
“The day has come that I announce my retirement from Major League Baseball,” Calhoun wrote.
“I know how extremely lucky I am to even be able to say that. Baseball was always my dream and to make that my reality fills me with gratitude. I have loved this game since I can remember, so making this announcement weighs heavy on my heart. This day comes for all players eventually and I can honestly say that I have given this game everything I have and I walk away with no regrets.”
Calhoun played in 1,239 career MLB games. He posted a career batting average of .242 with 179 home runs and 582 RBI’s.
He spent just a portion of the 2023 season with Cleveland, after being acquired in a trade with the Dodgers. In 43 games with the Guardians, Calhoun batted .217 with 6 homers and 25 RBI’s.
