calfoxwc
big mouth, just another Boehnerite. Last Thursday, the Republican-controlled Senate rejected an effort to strip funding from Planned Parenthood by a margin of 52-47. The Hill also reported that eight Republican Senators broke ranks and voted against the bill, including Senators Kelly Ayotte (NH), Susan Collins (ME), Tom Cotton (AR), Dean Heller (NV), Mark Kirk (IL), Lisa Murkowski (AK), Rand Paul (KY), and Ben Sasse (NE) all voted against moving forward. The bill would have redirected funding from Planned Parenthood's abortion mills to other community health centers. After slamming Democrats for blocking the proposal, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell introduced a "clean" Continuing Resolution (CR) bill which is expected to get a cloture vote today. This surrender in the Senate is totally unacceptable. Defunding Planned Parenthood is non-negotiable. This battle must continue!
Clevfan4life
Well in his defense he wasn't interested in shutting the govt down over it, doesn't mean he's against defunding PP. There's certain things now that the govt cannot do under any circumstances, and one thing is shut the fuck down. It's a bad look for us for starters, and 2nd it fucks with foreign markets who will then fuck with ours. I agree with you Cal that PP needs kicked, but not if it's part of a bill attacking abortion in general. If Reps think they can use this to sneak in some general anti abortion language to fuck with Roe V Wade, they will lose and PP keeps doing their thing. If they remain focused and specific on the fetus farming, than they will likely win.
Westside Steve
And personally I couldn't give less of a rats ass about shutting down the government. But people scream and bitch and whine and piss and moan and cry about it so fucking much.... Probably a bad PR move. We should shut the damn thing down for at least an entire month every year. Westside Steve
Well than we can't be capitalists. The free market requires a functioning govt and monetary structure. And of course shutting down the government until these assholes get their budgets together has abso-fucking-lutely nothing to do with that. We also vote to implement measures that the bastards have to quit flushing money down the toilet when we hit a certain limit. Which is a fine idea. You can't tell me that we couldn't just siphon 15% right off the top of every government agency spending system and/or boondoggle without calamity. Westside Steve
On top of that we are no more capitalist than we are socialist just for the record. For one thing in real capitalism you can fire strikers anytime you want and replace them with somebody who actually wants the job at that pay level. Pumpkin Eater
Lol only the House of Representatives has authorization to appropriate Government funds. If they send a budget Obamas way and he vetoes it, that's on him... Not house republicans who don't want to fund the slaughter of innocent babies.
