I'll leave the rest for somebody else, but I'm pretty sure the 94 answer was Expos.

A bit of a Divergence this week.....some World Series history trivia: Give it a shot:

Answers:

1. True or False: every time the Indians win the World Series, another team in the Cleveland area also wins a Championship.

True. In 1920 the Indians won the WS, and the Akron Pros (cleveland area) won the first NFL title.

In 1948 the Indians won the WS, and the Browns won the AAFC title.

(note: In 1954, the Indians fucked it up. The Browns won the NFL title...but the Indians lost the WS)

Also note: 1997 was a year in which the Browns did not play.

So...now we have this year. What's it gonna be.....1948...or 1954?

2. We know (or, if you didn't know, you are now being informed) that the Cubs and Indians are the two MLB teams with the longest World Series win droughts. Name the next 5 teams that have suffered the longest WS win droughts

A. The Washington Senators/Texas Rangers....since their creation in 1961

B. The Houston Astros since their creation in 1962

C. The Brewers/Pilots, the Padres, and the Expos/Nationals.....all created in 1969, none have ever won a World Series.

3.A. What 2 teams have never appeared in the World Series?

The Seattle Mariners, and those Expos/Nationals.

B. What 3 teams who have played in a WS at some point have gone the longest now since their last World Series appearance?

Besides the Cubs to whom this question no longer applies, the next 3 are: Pittsburgh Pirates (1979), Milwaukee Brewers(1982) and Baltimore Orioles(1983).

4. A. The Yankees have the most WS appearances and wins. What team has made the second most appearances?

The NY/SF Giants....have made 20 appearances

B. What team is second in most wins? Hint: A and B are different teams.

The St. Louis Cardinals.

5. Within a particular margin of error, what is the AL vs. NL record in world series wins/losses?

Hint: so far there have been 111 WS.

The AL has won 64, the NL has won 47. (and, yes, the Yankees account for 42% of the AL victories)

6. What was the last team to win back to back World Series. Give team and years.

The Yankees, 1998/1999/2000

7. What 2 teams played in the first World Series...in 1903?

The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Boston Americans nka Red Sox. Boston won.

8. What year was the first World Series night game played?

1971 Three Rivers Stadium, Pirates/Orioles. Now, every game is played at night.

9. What team had the best record in baseball when the 1994 strike called off the season and cancelled the World Series?

The Montreal Expos. Closest I think that they have ever come.

10. What 2 teams lost the most consecutive World Series in which they have appeared?

The Dodgers lost 7 World Series in a row before winning the 1955 WS

....and the other team:

The Chicago Cubs.....have also lost 7 in a row.....and this streak is ongoing. The Cubs have lost the 1910, 1918, 1929, 1932, 1935,1938 and 1945 World Series.

If the Indians beat them, they will have this record all to their own. Or, if they win, it will be another record streak that they will have broken.

11. What 2 men have hit "walk off" home runs to win a World Series?

Bill Mazeroski in the 1961 series for Pirates vs. Yankees and Joe Carter for the Toronto Blue Jays vs. Phillies in 1993.

The difference was that Mazeroski's was a 7th game, 9th inning homer. Carter's was in game 6.

12. Four game 7s in World Series history have gone into extra innings. As best you can, try to name the years of these games and the teams that played.

1912 Red Sox vs. Giants went 10 innings. Red Sox won.

1924 Washington Senators beat NY Giants in 12 innings. (last time a team from Washington won)

1991 Minnesota Twins beat the Atlanta Braves in 10 innings.

1997 Florida/Miami Marlins beat the Cleveland Indians in 11 innings.

Bonus: What is the only year in which "The Browns" made the World Series?

1944. The St. Louis Browns nka Baltimore Orioles lost to the St. Louis Cardinals.
