Still can't think of the second part of question #1 and it's been bugging me all last night. Almost looked it up, but I know it and want to figure it out. Stampede?

Total guess on Bart Starr! That's awesome!

Figured Owners meeting, but don't know the significance of the meeting. Decided on the birth of professional football as we know it?

Thought for sure my guess on Shirley Temple was right ... as was the highest margin of victory for #9 ... or even Garo Yeprimian for most FG's ... sigh.

Well, you said baseball team....figure it out from there.

Total guess on Bart Starr! That's awesome!

Figured Owners meeting, but don't know the significance of the meeting. Decided on the birth of professional football as we know it? Nothing quite as dramatic as the birth of pro football....but actually that is not far off.

Thought for sure my guess on Shirley Temple was right ... as was the highest margin of victory for #9 ... or even Garo Yeprimian for most FG's ... sigh.

Highest margin of victory goes back to Bears 73-0 beatdown of Redskins in 1940. This goes back further than that, and yes, it is a significant stat, not a minor one.

Here are some trivia that go all over the place: Give a try:

Friday afternoon, here are the answers:

1. The "Cowboys" is actually the third name that the current team from Dallas was officially designated. The other two names, while initially selected, were then rejected for one reason or another. What were those other two names that the 'boys could have actually been called?

They were originally to be called The Steers, but that was changed...I don't know why. Maybe they just figured that it sucked... to The Rangers (not sure if it was to be the Dallas Rangers or the Texas Rangers). There was a minor league baseball team by that name that I guess was supposedly going to go under, so Clint Murchison was going to take the name....but when that minor league team decided that it would continue, then the Dallas NFL name had to be changed again, so they came up with Cowboys.

2. Which NFL team still bears the nickname "borrowed" from a baseball team?

The NY Football Giants (and that is their actual corporate name) was named after the NY Baseball Giants. In history there have been other names "borrowed from baseball". There were NY Yankees, Boston Braves, Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, and maybe others. Only the Giants survive as a borrowed name however. And FYI, no The Cardinals are not a name borrowed from baseball. The Chicago Cardinals were named after the color of the University of Chicago uniforms, and didn't originally have anything to do with the bird, as did the St. Louis Cardinals. It was just really serendipity that the Chicago Cardinals decided to move from Chicago to St. Louis where it did share the name with the local baseball team....but it wasn't planned that way, though the St. Louis Football Cardinals did take on the bird motif. Now the Cardinals are in Arizona where the name makes no sense. They ought to be the Road Runners or Scorpions or something I guess.

3. You are all aware of the "Redskins" name controversy. What were the Redskins originally called?

They were originally one of those borrowed names from baseball: The Boston Braves. They changed their name to the Redskins in like 1936 when they moved to Washington. Not sure why they chose that name. That team's owner at the time, George Preston Marshall was an unapologetic racist. They were the last team in the NFL to integrate. They say now that the name "glorifies" native-Americans. That certainly was NOT the original intent under Marshall.

4. Who was the coolest QB in history, i.e. which QB scored a TD during the lowest recorded temperature on record?

Bart Starr's QB sneak in the "Ice Bowl" at -18 F. is the coldest TD scored. I know there have been a couple of games where the wind chill factor was lower, like the Bengals/Chargers game, but this one had the actual coldest pure temperature.

5. Officially how soon before kickoff does the coin toss occur in an NFL game?

It is 3 minutes, officially. I was being exact. Some said 2 minutes, 5 minutes, but it is in the rules at 3 minutes.

6. Who holds the NFL record for most FGs in a game?

Rob Bironas for the Titans vs. the Texans on 10/21/2007. 8 field goals.

7. Which current starting NFL QB threw a 62 yard TD pass on his very first pass in an NFL game?

Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons. His very first pass 62 yard TD to WR Michael Jenkins.

8. Who was the first player to make a kick "soccer style" in a pro football game?

You all put up several names that were plausible, like Stenurud and Yepremian.....but it was Pete Gogolak for the Buffalo Bills in 1964 that was the first soccer style kicker.. The second was his brother Charlie Gogolak.

9. What is considered to be the oldest record still extant in the NFL record book?

The 6 rushing TDs, 40 point performance (with extra points) by Ernie Nevers on November 28, 1929 still stands. I believe Gale Sayers tied the 6 TD record, but not the 40 point record.

10. There are 4 states that have the same name as certain NFL players who have played throughout history. One of those is the name "Washington" of which about 100 players bore. Name the other 3 states, and the players with those names.

Joe plus about 99 other Washingtons, Joe Montana, Russell Maryland, Dwayne Missouri

11. The Browns were the winningest team in the AAFC from 1946-1945. What team was the second winningest?

The SF 49ers who had like 38 wins in that league. Third most wins was by the New York Yankees.

12. In what league did the following teams play: Philadelphia Bell, Detroit Wheels, San Antonio Wings, Charlotte Hornets, Birmingham Vulcans, Shreveport Steamers?

These were all members of the World Football League which played only from 1974-1975. FYI, that league played a 20 game schedule.

13. Who is the only rookie running back in NFL history to have 100 yard rushing games in his first 3 games in the NFL history?

Carnell "Cadillac" Williams. He started out like a Cadillac, but his ultimate career only turned out to be like a Corvair.

14. What significant action was taken at the Hollenden Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio on June 25th, 1922?

The vote was taken and approved to change the name of the American Professional Football Association to "The National Football League".

15. Who was the most important little girl in the sports world on November 17, 1968?

The Little Swiss Miss Heidi who interrupted the Broadcast of the Jets/Raiders game with just a couple of minutes left.....but which was enough time for The Raiders to score two TDs in the final minute to win the game....but no one saw it because the little girl's story took precedence to the network.

Huh... All the non Washingtons were "M's"...

No idea who Dwayne was...

11. The Browns were the winningest team in the AAFC from 1946-1945. What team was the second winningest?

The Raiders The Raiders were not part of the AAFC. You are thinking of the AFL....but that is a good question...which were the winningest AFL teams.

Peggy Flenmming Actually a very good guess. Not right, but a good guess.

Should have been around the time Peggy won her US National title in THE Cleveland Arena...

In the AFL the Oilers and Raiders had to be close to if not at the top of the win list...
