The Gipper
I know, this will probably get moved to the Baseball Board. Nevertheless, just a note that Roger Clemens was found Not Guilty on his perjury charge. Does this mean that he was innocent and never lied to Congress and never took performance enhancing drugs? Not likely. I think the jury probably thought it was just a bullshit charge that shouldn't have been brought. And it doesn't clear him of suspicion of doing steroids. Its just that he doesn't have to face criminal sanctions. Remember the 8 men that were accused of throwing games in the Black Sox Scandal were all acquitted in their criminal trials. But, the next day, Kennesaw Mountain Landis proceeded to ban them from baseball for life. And, apparently "life" didn't just mean their lives....but the life of Major League Baseball. There are probably not 5 or 10 people that have better HOF credentials than Shoeless Joe Jackson, but here he has been dead for over 60 years and MLB hasn't seen fit to reinstate him. I doubt that Clemens will ever be officially banned....but no one that has the taint of Steroids on them has yet been inducted into the HOF, and he may not be either. Thaak
Would Clemens have been good enough for HOF without PEDs? Who knows. When did he start taking them? Just to prolong his career? At the beginning? And the Baseball HOF is much harder to get into than any other HOF I think.
clebro
The more tax payer money spent on this investigation means the less tax payer money that can be spent on $4 shrimp or $16 muffin breakfasts. So I guess it's a plus.
