The Gipper
Actually, a franchise QB is just what the Browns primarily need to get them over the hump.......assuming that the FO and coaching staff are going to maintain some stability for a while. I suggest if you did the same analysis....taking each individual Browns player and matched them against each individual player on the Champion New England Patriots, the Browns would probably have more better players at each position than the Pats. The biggest difference? QB and coach/ownership stability. Now, sure there would some slots....like Gronk of course....but overall....I might bet on the Browns. Compare the starters: LWR Dwayne Bowe vs. Ryan LaFell RWR Taylor Gabriel vs. Julian Edelman LT Joe Thomas vs. Nate Solder LG Joel Bitonio vs. Jordan Devey OC Alex Mack vs. Bryan Stork RG John Greco vs. Ryan Wendell RT Mitchell Schwartz vs. Sebastian Vollmer QB Josh McCown vs. Tom Brady TE Gary Barnidge vs. Rob Gronkowski RB Isaiah Crowell vs. LeGarrette Blount XX RB Terence West vs. TE Michael Hoomamawaui (Pats use primarily 2 TE set) RDE Desmond Bryant vs. Chandler Jones NT Phil Taylor vs. DT Alex Branch LDE Billy Winn vs. Rob Ninkovich LOLB Paul Kruger vs. OLB Jamie Collins XXX LILB Craig Robertson vs. DT Sealver Siliga RILB Karlos Dansby vs. MLB Jerod Mayo ROLB Barkevious Mingo vs. OLB Donta Hightower LCB Joe Haden vs. Logan Ryan SS Donte Whitner vs. Patrick Chung FS Tashaun Gipson vs. Devin McCourty RCB Tramon Williams vs. Kyle Arrington P Spencer Lanning vs. Ryan Allen K Garret Hartley vs. Stephen Gostkowski KR Jordan Poyer vs. Danny Amendola PR Travis Benjamin vs. Julian Edelman Honestly....except for 2-3 obvious slots (Pats own QB and TE, Browns own most of the DB)....I am not sure where these players grade out against each other. However, the talent/experience deficit at QB far outweighs any slight advantage the Browns had from other positions. I'd honestly rather take a team of scrubs with Tom Brady at the helm than a team of Pro Bowlers being quarterbacked by Josh McCown.

Tim Couch Pulls Out
How do you pick Hartline over Edelman? Also, they have lots more depth than us. Because my ex thinks Julian Edelman is hot, and she's a mega bitch. But, on a real note, Hartline is more durable and more reliable, which is what I value in a #2 receiver moreso than dynamic playmaking ability. Hartline has only had one season where hasn't played in all 16 games, Edelman has only had one season where he HAS played in all 16 games. Granted, he saw limited playing time because he was behind a few solid receivers (namely, Welker), but Hartline has shown that he can not only be relied on, but he can produce in a poor QB situation and with limited other receiving options. That's why I value Hartline over Edelman. For building a team, I think producing at a decent clip without having a solid QB, without having a stable FO, without having other viable receiving options, etc. is a much more desirable quality. I don't expect Hartline to be anything more than a 500-900 yard, 3 TD a season receiver. But I do expect to not have to worry about our #2 receiver spot for his career in Cleveland. Hartline is no where near as good as edleman. If he were he would still be in Miami.
The Gipper
Hartline is no where near as good as edleman. If he were he would still be in Miami. Edelman would be nowhere as good as Edelman if he didn't have Tom Brady throwing to him. If Brady were throwing to Hartline, he would probably be Wes Welker. I kinda give those two pretty much a wash.

I don't see Bowie overtaking Schwartz though.....and for whatever reason, Ourlads did not have Sheard as the starter....so you can take your issue up with them. And Johnny eh? Some would say you really dug our hole deeper.
Opal312
The Browns should sign their young players before they reach free agency. Tashaun Gipson should be locked into a long term deal before next year. New England signed Devin McCourty to a 5 yr deal with 15million signing bonus and 28 million quaranteed. I'm not saying Gipson should get that kind of money but seeing how Skrine, Sheard and Rubin all got big money elsewhere the Browns need to sign their young players before they walk. wargograw
Opal, gotta understand how the tender works. They do it when they don't know the fair market value of a player because it allows them to sort of dip their toe in the water and find out without allowing that player to be a full blown free agent. It's pretty genius actually. As I understand it, Gipson has no ability to "walk" without the Browns making their offer.
