The Gipper
Here is some history all about Browns trivia: Final Answers, though nearly all have been gotten: 1. Who scored the very first Touchdown in Cleveland Browns history? This was Mac Speedie....against those Miami Seahawks. 2.A. Who did the Browns defeat for their very first title in 1946 The New York Football Yankees B. Who were the opposing Hall of Fame QBs that started that game for each team? Ace Parker. Yes, there is a Hall of Fame QB named Ace Parker. 3. Who was the QB that was the primary bridge between the Brian Sipe era and the Bernie Kosar era? Brian Sipe was the starter in 1983...when he left for the USFL. Paul McDonald then started all 16 games of the 1984 season. Gary Danielson would have also been somewhat acceptable as he started the first 6 games of 1985 before Bernie took over and started the last 10 games of that year. 4. The Browns have had 3 "Interim HCs" in their history. Name the three. Dick Modzelewski, Jim Shofner, Terry Robiskie Both Mo and Shofner had played for the Browns, but not Robo. 5. Jim Brown began play in the 1957 season and retired after the 1965 season, leading the Browns in rushing in all his years here. Question: who was the Browns leading rusher immediately preceding Jim Browns arrival, and who was the Browns leading rusher immediately after his departure? Preston Carpenter was the Browns leading rusher in 1956. Leroy Kelly in 1966. 6. Since 1970, in which season did the Browns have their highest net margin of victory average? In 1987 the Browns scored an average of 10.1 pts. per game more than they gave up. (In the 40s/50s/60s the Browns did have higher MOVs). Second in this category is 1994 with an 8.5 avg. MOV. Several mentioned 1986. While the Browns had like their second best record that year, their avg MOV was only like 5.0 pts. (The Browns had 11 years however from 1946 -1970 where their MOV was better than that of 1987. Their best was 1946 with a 20.4 avg. MOV.) 7. In which year pre "reactivation", i.e. pre-1999, did the Browns have their lowest net margin of victory? (or highest margin of defeat if you would prefer) This was 1990 where they were -14.6.0 pts per game on average. 1999 and 2000 were worse than this. If someone had said 1990 for this question and I said no, then I was wrong to do so. 8. Excluding the 1940s and 1950s (when the Browns did it 11 times) what is the only year in which the Browns led the league in fewest points allowed? 1994 ... 9. Between 1950 and 1965 what was the Browns record in the NFL Championship game? They were 4-5 in NFL title games. Note also that in they also appeared in the "NFL Championship Games" in 1969 and 1969, losing both (those games now being considered the equivalent of conference title games). So in a sense for the 20 years between 1950 and 1969 they appeared in 11 of the 20 NFL Championship games....going 4-7. 10. In their 65 years, how many times have the Browns won 10 or more games in a season? 18 times 11.A. In which year, pre-"reactivation" did the Browns have their very worst record? 1990 3-13 (they had one other year in which they won only 3 games, but it was a 14 game season where they were 3-11 B. What was their worst record in any year? 1999 they were 2-14 C. In which year did the Browns have their very best record? 1948 they were 14-0 D. In which non-AAFC year did the Browns have their best record 1986 they were 12-4. At least, lets put it this way, that was the non-AAFC year in which they won the most games, though they actually had 10 other years where they lost fewer than the 4 they lost in 1986. A couple of years they were 11-1, 10-2 etc. But most wins were 1948 with 14 and 1947 and 1986 with 12. 12: Here is the name, alphabetically of every former and current Browns HC (interims not included): Paul Brown .767 Bud Carson .460 Rob Chudzinski .250 Blanton Collier .691 Romeo Crennell .375 Butch Davis .407 Forrest Gregg .439 Eric Mangini .313 Mike Pettine .439 Sam Rutigliano .485 Marty Schottenheimer .620 Pat Shurmur .281 Nick Skorich .554 And here is the coaching records, regular season, of the above coaches: .250 .281 .313 .375 .407 .438 .439 .460 .485 .554 .620 .691 .767 Match the winning pct. with the coach
