IN:

Saw an announcement in ESPN's crawl yeaterday that Malik McDowell, DT/DE, Michigan State declared he'll enter 2017 draft. He's the #15 player on Kiper's early board and generally considered to be a solid mid to late 1st rounder.

Can I assume that though these guys may have declared, they will still play in their bowl?

IIRC, the answer is yes, as long as they haven't hired an agent. They can talk to them, but once they sign- they lose their NCAA eligibility- even if they change their mind and want to play college ball for another year.

The "2"?

Garrett said today he's waiting for his grade. Wants to go top 3. Won't announce until after the bowl one way or the other. Per Edward Ashkoff ESPN.

Do you know to which grade is he referring? NFL.com's? If so, I'm not sure why they'd grade an undeclared player with eligibility left.

The school you listed for D'Onta Foreman.

I assume it's referring to the report the NFL gives. But I believe all it will say is "first round." Kid will have to do his own digging (and technically do so without an agent).

Given his injury history this year, falling a bit seems very plausible. And A&M has proven quick to pay the insurance premium for juniors deciding to stay. Could get interesting. At least, I hope it gets interesting.

It's now allowed under a new ruling that any school may allow up to 5 draft eligible underclassmen in their school pro day and receive feedback in order to make an informed decision on whether to declare or not. However i doubt they could guarantee a "top 3" grade to Myles. He will just have to come to that conclusion himself.

Duh... I channeled my inner Aggie (insert "My money and my daughter went to A&M" bumper sticker here) and then went dim.

Aside: My most common salutation to this day is "Howdy"... may be the most endearing of all TAMU traditions.

His injury history is not that significant, is it? I'd think Top 3 is going to have more to do with QB rises.

Not to mention that the NFL's "X.X" grade is no guarantee of draft order. I looked and Tunsil, 2016's Top graded player at 7.6, fell to #13... of course he also fell out of a window. Second highest, Buckner 7.2, went at #7 and third, Zeke 7.0, went at #4.

However i doubt they could guarantee a "top 3" grade to Myles. He will just have to come to that conclusion himself.

Maybe he majored in "number line"... B)

Garrett didn't have the best statistical season, and that does actually bother me. I remember when we drafted Mingo, and I was VERY concerned about his lack of QB sacks. I don't remember what he had during his last year of college ball, but I believe it was around 4. To me, that's unacceptable, but whatever. Nate Orchard had a million sacks, and we haven't seen too much out of him (obviously he was hurt, and made some good plays at the end of last year).

We all know how the combine and private workouts drive the draft, and God only knows what Myles Garrett will show us. He COULD display some eye-popping numbers, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him measure up at an official 6'4, 265 pounds, and running a sub 4.6 (4.58 or something close). He'll also jump about 40 inches too. I don't know what his shuttle will be, but I assume something Retard. He's a fluid athlete, and doesn't have one hint of stiffness (I'm looking at YOU Ogbah). I expect Jonathan Allen to have equally impressive numbers.

Cool link to Garrett highlights:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2652678-why-myles-garrett-is-a-better-nfl-draft-prospect-than-jadeveon-clowney

Also, according to http://tamu.247sports.com/Bolt/Myles-Garrett-shows-off-ridiculous-athleticism-35084082 , Garrett ran a 4.46 40 and jumped 40 inches. Now, I don't like to believe "independent" measurements...but lord. We all know that football isn't about just numbers, but the impressive thing about Garrett is just how stout he is against the run. He's no one trick pony.

Jiggins-We pretty well documented the early high ankle sprain since the 1st half of the Ark. game kept him totally out of 2 games and playing on one wheel most of the rest of the games. So this year is the aberration, not the norm. If you want a real representation then watch the OT win over UCLA or against Auburn before he got hurt.

There's no way Garrett ran a 4.46 40.

Hand timed? Sure there is... easily translates to a combine time of 4.6-ish tho.

What'll count tho is his 10-yd split... I'm guessing 1.65-ish.

Christian McCaffrey declared earlier today.

While I doubt they take a RB in Rnd 1, this fit just screams NE Pats to me...

Talk about a PLAYER! I just love the way he plays. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up, but he WOULD make the Pats even more scary than they already are.

Probably depends on whether a team starts a RB run early.

The RB class of 2017 could yield as many as five 1st rounders. It is being touted as the most talented since 2008, the last time five went in the first. But in addition to 2017's obvious quality at the top, it is also seen as one of the deepest at the position. That, plus the relative devaluing of the position, might push the group as a whole down the board.

http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?position=RB&type=position

Scan the above list and you realize even 2016 did not exactly suck yielding a few quality starters and a few more role playing RBs.

Scan further and you'll come across a few "where-are-they-now" names, e.g., Beanie Wells.

Between McCaffrey and Switzer out of UNC, BB should be loving this draft from an offensive weapons stand point.

They might be in the market for a TE as well and there seem to be a few interesting options this year.

Yup... Butt just won the Mackey and has stud written all over him. Then there's BAMA's Howard and Clemson's Leggett.

A couple of them can even block, too... what a concept...

I've been harping on about getting a new TE for a while now. One that can catch and block? Sorry big play barnidge, you're now second on the depth chart.

Can't see pats making TE a priority btw, with Gronk and Bennett

Tough to predict the Pats... very BPA driven and not a lot of sentimentality has been displayed during the BB years.

Gronk, while signed thru 2020, has injury issues and a contract that is only cap unfriendly thru 2017.

Bennett is only rented thru this season.
