The Bengals.....

Between Gordon and JF, we have received a lot of bad media. Are the bengels of past with personal issues? We better play good this year. damn it.

A supposed cocaine snorter throwing the ball to a pot head. Sounds like recreation time at the Rehab center to me.

I noticed that too, that some of the Browns' moves and circumstances were Bengalsesque. That rookie FA Crowell apparently has some character issues.

Can't think of many more examples than that though, so doesn't seem to be an overriding theme, except for the big names in the press.

First, Gordon was arrested for being .01 over the legal limit. Most of us are that when we go out to eat and have a few beers. Second, JF has not been arrested or anything else. He is just been put on a pedestal. Third, Crowell has had past issues, but the kid has talent, he should have a second chance. The whole league missed out on Burfict because if his personal issues, and that was a bad call by all. We are in the news becuase of 2 ppl. Does Espn show what our guys do for the local community, hell no.

Not disagreeing with the yeah, all been there, done that- but JFF has to a large extent put himself on the pedestal. Instead of downplaying it- it's "hey mofos- look at MEEEEE!!!!!'.

Armonty Bryant had issues causing him to fall - sold weed to an undercover cop. Twice. Right after draft day, he promised to clean up his act - then got arrested for DUI.

we can have cheech and chong selling 'ice cream' driving through the different tailgate lots before games and at TC.

money-maker.

they should be good-to-go as long as there are not any 12 years olds wearing Jets gear with them

For what it's worth l don't see something like taking a player with "character issues" as a bad thing. It takes a certain kind of coach to put up with that shit and have some degree of success to turn that guy into a good player and person. Marvin Lewis gives it a shot and l applaud the effort.

Chris Henry was reportedly on a solid run of the straight and narrow before he passed away, ironically.

The lynch pin is, can Pettine pull it off? I don't think he's had enough time in office to say for sure yet.

Being over the legal limit... Doesn't matter how close you were to being legal. You were over the limit. That legal limit has been there long before Gordon decided to be over it.

I bet many don't realize that the browns and the bengals have a lot more in common than just having players with personal issues.

I'm sure you'll find this pretty entertaining!

Both their daddy's was Paul Brown.

Both had coaches that had eventually won Super Bowls as head coaches elsewhere...Bill Walsh and Belichek.

Both were relevant in the 80's and have sucked since the early 90's.

Orange and brown, and orange and black are the colors of fall.. Halloween, pumpkins, and dead leaves.

Both have had Super Bowl winning assistant coaches that couldn't get it done as head coaches...Lewis, Crennel, Davis.

Neither won a Super Bowl.

Both their intitals are CB.

Both have been the Steelers bitches for over the last 2 decades.

Probably the only two teams in the NFL that have multiple logos ..is it the helmet, the elf, or the "B"? For the bengals is it the "B", tiger face, or leaping tiger? Make up your minds. Kinda reflects the perpetual confusion that these franchises are in.

Both are border towns on waterfronts.

Both always seem to rank high in "worst uniform" polls.

Fans of both teams can at least find solace in being Buckeye fans.

Both were expansion teams...Bengals in 67, the browns in '99.

Besides Paul Brown, they shared another head coach...Forrest Greg.

Both teams have/had head coaches that are from the Pittsburgh suburb of McDonald, Pa....Marvin Lewis and Marty Shottenheimer.

Fans of both teams made asses of themselves on TV by throwing stuff onto the field...Cleveland with bottlegate, and Cincy when Sam Wysche got on the mic and scolded the fans for throwing snowballs "YOU DONT LIVE IN CLEVELAND" he said.

One is a cat, the other a dawg. Cute.

They had beaten each other nearly the same amount of times until Cincy pulled away in the 2010's . Cincy leads 43-38.

Cincy division champs 8 times. Cle 6.

Neither team has beaten the Steelers in the playoffs..Cin 0-1, Cle 0-2.

Both teams had an idiot fan that ran onto the football field.

I doubt there a team in the league that does not have at least two "problem children" on their roster. The key is whether the team has the core and the "culture" to keep them in line... All teams at all times do not. Perhaps it's more accurate to state that no team at all times does. Even a consensus model organization, e.g., the Pats, can fall a few homicides short of perfection.

Cinci appears to be a hell of a lot more responsible organization today than it was a few years ago. I think Lewis always thought his ability "reach" troubled players exceeded his organization's grasp, but lately their arms appear to have gotten longer. Burfict's successful rookie run is but one example.

The 2005 Vikes were one of the most out of control teams in recent memory.

Us? While I like our chances of being in control with Farmer and Pettine at the helm, their organization's culture is not yet established.

"Us? While I like our chances of being in control with Farmer and Pettine at the helm, their organization's culture is not yet established."

The "culture" you speak of has been missing since the return in 99. The owner and all of the key management people will have to do their part to establish and build on that culture. Winning is probably the most important piece to the puzzle, but stability is also up there. Farmer and Pettine are in the spotlight, but the organization as a whole also a big part. We just have to wait and see how it plays out.

First off, JF hasn't done anything yet to warrent being compared to a Bengals player. A picture of him maybe doing something wrong isn't a smoking gun warenting a suspension. So right now we really just have Gordon. We also had Little, but cut his ass loose. Other than that we really don't have any trouble makers. I don't count Crowell because he hasn't done anything illegal in, what, 3-4 years, and he sure as shit hasn't done anything illegal while in the NFL.

I'm sure you'll find this pretty entertaining!

Some entertaining, some completely inaccurate

Both their daddy's was Paul Brown.

True

Both had coaches that had eventually won Super Bowls as head coaches elsewhere...Bill Walsh and Belichek.

Walsh was never HC of the Bengals. So that is wrong as far as it goes. If you want to add assistant coaches....you could include Cowher who was a coach with the Browns

Both were relevant in the 80's and have sucked since the early 90's.

The Bengals have won the last two division titles in a row.

Orange and brown, and orange and black are the colors of fall.. Halloween, pumpkins, and dead leaves.

And dirt. Don't forget dirt. Yes, these two teams are the colors of fall, the colors of football.

Both have had Super Bowl winning assistant coaches that couldn't get it done as head coaches...Lewis, Crennel, Davis.

Let's not forget Dick LeBeau

Neither won a Super Bowl.

the Browns have, however won 8 total championships...as much as the entire rest of the division combined.

Both their intitals are CB.

And so are the Columbus Bluejackets.

Both have been the Steelers bitches for over the last 2 decades.

And in all likelihood the Steelers will be their bitches for the next two decades.

Probably the only two teams in the NFL that have multiple logos ..is it the helmet, the elf, or the "B"? For the bengals is it the "B", tiger face, or leaping tiger? Make up your minds. Kinda reflects the perpetual confusion that these franchises are in.

Lots of other teams have multiple logos. You are just not as aware or attune to that fact because they are not rival teams of yours.

Both are border towns on waterfronts.

Borders of what? states? countries.

Both always seem to rank high in "worst uniform" polls.

Yet, the Browns have one of the absolute best uniforms. A classic.

Fans of both teams can at least find solace in being Buckeye fans.

There certainly are some Browns fans that are not Buckeye fans (talk to MLWoody on this board)

Both were expansion teams...Bengals in 67, the browns in '99.

The Browns are not an expansion team dumbass. The franshise goes back to 1946 when it originated in the AAFC, then joined the NFL in 1950.

Are you seriously ignorant of this history?

Hell, by your method of determining an "expansion" franchise, the Steelers are also one as well. In 1933 they became an NFL expansion team.

Actually, by this reckoning, the Steelers are the only expansion team. Both the Browns and the Bengals joined the NFL as the result of mergers, not expansion

Besides Paul Brown, they shared another head coach...Forrest Greg.

Yes, they did.

Both teams have/had head coaches that are from the Pittsburgh suburb of McDonald, Pa....Marvin Lewis and Marty Shottenheimer.

OK, and the best coach in Steeler history was a native of Cleveland, Ohio.

Fans of both teams made asses of themselves on TV by throwing stuff onto the field...Cleveland with bottlegate, and Cincy when Sam Wysche got on the mic and scolded the fans for throwing snowballs "YOU DONT LIVE IN CLEVELAND" he said.

And Steeler fans make asses of themselves just about every day of every year. They far outrank either Browns or Bengals fans on the stupidity meter.

One is a cat, the other a dawg. Cute.

Browns is not a dog. It is a man...or a couple of men.

They had beaten each other nearly the same amount of times until Cincy pulled away in the 2010's . Cincy leads 43-38.

Randy Lerner's legacy.

Cincy division champs 8 times. Cle 6.

WTF, The Browns won 10 division championship....no, conference or league championships in their first 10 years of existance. That was just 46-55.

Better count again.

Neither team has beaten the Steelers in the playoffs..Cin 0-1, Cle 0-2.

That last one thanks to Butch Davis going into the prevent defense in the middle of the third quarter, and Dennis Northcutt dropping the ball.

Both teams had an idiot fan that ran onto the football field.

Every team has had that happen.
