THE BROWNS BOARD

Atlanta vs. Cleveland

Recommended Posts

As you know the NBA Eastern Conference Finals begin this week with the Cleveland Cavaliers playing the Atlanta Hawks. Herein is the history of Cleveland vs. Atlanta in sports:

A. The Browns and Falcons have never met in the playoffs, but the Browns lead the regular season with an 11-3 advantage over the Falcons.

The Browns won the last meeting...just this past year 26-24.

B. In baseball Atlanta and Cleveland met just the one time in the 1995 World Series, won by the Atlanta Braves.

C. Since the inception of the Cavaliers, they have met the Atlanta Hawks in the postseason just one other time: in 2008/09 the Cavs beat the Hawks in the Eastern Conference semi-final round.

And FYI, if the Cavs get by the Hawks, they will meet either the Warriors or Rockets. They have never played either team in a previous postseason.

Let's just get CLE out of the 50 year drought. Even if it's a Retarded sport like basketball

There are only 4 major league sports....and only 3 in Cleveland. Why should we not welcome one in any of those sports?

I can see something like indoor soccer being called Retarded....or Arena League football, but not one of the Big 4.

I would most definitely welcome it. I guess I just like football 1,000,000 X more than BBall

I don't have the emotional connection to the sport of basketball itself compared to football. Especially the transformation of the league under stern and how players are today vs the 80's and 90's. That said, I still love the Cavs and any championship for Cleveland is a point of pride.

I love the Cavs! When I lived in Cleveland I used to go to the games. LeBron is doing a wonderful job as coach and player. Kyrie is awesome and they are so much fun to watch. They needed a few days rest because of injuries but good luck!

The season is too long and someday they might just revamp the schedule. Then maybe the players will have a better chance surviving close to a hundred games. In the meantime GO CAVS!

A. I think Blatt actually does a better job than most people give him credit for....though, yes, on a few occasions he makes gaffes.

B. They won't reduce the season because they won't reduce their pay. It is all about the money. Never suggest to these owners and players that they should take less money in order to preserve the integrity of the game. They won't want to hear it.

Someone educate me because I am not a basketball guy at all, why is the common thought that there are too many games? What do people think is a good amount of games?

good question.

considering it is an up and down sport as far as running is concerned players must think about lasting the season. IMO soccer players are the best conditioned athletes in the world (although i could give a shit about the sport) because it's like a marathon run with no breaks (hardly).

then look at a basketball season compared to a soccer season.

does joe haden have seats right behind the cavs bench?

swear i saw him in the left corner behind the bench last night.

Joe frequently attends Cavs games- I didn't see him- but little doubt it was him. He's pretty big pals with LeBron.

BTW, another epic performance Sunday by LBJ.

Mr. Blatt- please sit Kyrie for the rest of the series- the Hawks aren't wining 4 straight. Going to need a healthy Irving against the Warriors- unless you think Le Bron can put up 50 every game.

First, I would say MMA are the best conditioned. Running is tiring, but flexing your body to give shots and take shots is on another level (I used to wrestle and that was the hardest sport I ever played).

But regardless I do agree that soccer is harder than basketball. From what I can tell, an MLS season is 34 games. So wouldn't that be in line with what you're saying? Can't tell if you agree the NBA season is too long or just right.

82 in the NBA but like i said they don't run as much as MLS. i think the NBA season is just right. both coaches and players now know when to rest during the season.

MMA fighters are tough as hell but besides the ring i would think other athletes out do them in every facet except dwarfism and cauliflower ears.

I agree. The NBA of today is by far my least favorite big 4 sport. Back in the 80's the NBA was much better IMO. Now it is almost always a 3-point try or a dunk. Not a whole lot of thinking going on.

But I do root for the Cavs, only because they play in Cleveland. If Cleveland didn't have a NBA team, I would never watch a NBA game

i know a lot of people who hate it because it's dominated by black athletes. to that i say go watch nascar.

what game each of us leans towards i guess would be what each of us consider exciting.

lived in boston when the bruins were last relevant and went to many a game right behind their bench.......

still think it blows. and baseball?? GTFO.

They hate it because it's dominated by black athletes, really? Between this and Gip's "lots of people only want the SEC to be good to make up for the Civil War" bit, I really wonder who you guys are hanging out with.

i think your problem is with reading comprehension.

yes a lot of people i know from the past to the present don't like basketball because it's dominated by black athletes, yet they love hockey because it's still a 'white' man's game. obviously they don't have a hand in the game now and by most people's account it's backwards thinking. but it still exists. there's no talk of knicks basketball right now but the rangers well..

forgot all you 22 year olds are immune to such nonsense. glad you have it all figured out.

so how is isis and global warming doing on your plate?

So any miscomprehension in my post?

having a discussion is fine as long as you know the other 'person' is still breathing. hawkins is a logical person but i doubt if he was ever called the life of the party.

lighten up. sometimes when a person lobs a hand grenade at you, you throw it back instead of just diving on it.

water polo has to require some hellacious conditioning.

Compare say the number of college football games to the number of pro games: usually about 12 vs. 16. So college football has 75% of the number of games that the pros have. Where college basketball on the other hand has about 30 games regular season games...plus limited tournament games.....vs. 82 regular season games for the pros. Almost 3 times as many..plus the NBA playoffs system is bloated with 16 teams playing four rounds of best of 7. In theory...for the champion or runnerup...the playoffs could add as many as an additional 28 games to the schedule (about as many an entire college regular season).

As to what would be a good amount. Unknown, but possiby 60 some.....but they won't give up that money.

Lebron dismantled the Hawks in dominant fashion. It was pretty awesome to watch. I've followed the Cavaliers pretty closely since my time in Kent, that series was impressive. The NBA still isn't the same for me. I grew up watching the Jordan/dream team era but watching the Cav's especially this playoff has been enjoyable. I hope to see a parade in Cleveland soon.

LOL, it's been so long- I'm not sure we even know how to have one. :)
