THE BROWNS BOARD

Brandon Weeden is “outstanding” and “great”

Recommended Posts

Dez Bryant and Brandon Weeden have known each other since they both started playing at Oklahoma State in 2007, and Bryant has always looked up to Weeden. Even now, with Weeden as a backup in Dallas after two disappointing seasons in Cleveland, Bryant says Weeden is a whole lot better than most people think.

He’s been doing an outstanding job since he got here,” Bryant told the Dallas Morning News. “In my honest opinion, I feel like he was doing some great things out in Cleveland.”

Weeden has had plenty of work with the first-string offense during Organized Team Activities, as Cowboys starting quarterback Tony Romo is taking it slowly in recovery from back surgery and second-string quarterback Kyle Orton is staying home. If Weeden is playing as well on the Cowboys’ practice field as Bryant says, that’s good for the Cowboys. But it would be tough to find many Browns fans who would agree with Bryant’s assessment that Weeden “did some great things out in Cleveland.”

Bryant has thought highly of Weeden since they were freshmen. Bryant, who was 18 at the time, first noticed the 24-year-old Weeden because of the kind of car he could afford as a former second-round draft pick in Major League Baseball.

“I was like, ‘Man, he’s driving a BMW.’ Driving a black BMW, a black 745,” Bryant said. “Remember seeing him get out of the car in the parking lot, and I was like, ‘Damn, how did he get that?’ Somebody had told me that he had played baseball. I’m left-handed, too. I should’ve been working on my pitch game.”

That was seven years ago, and Bryant still likes what he sees from Weeden.

Dez should have signed with an SEC school. All the high profile freshman get cars...

Yeah, We-done looked great in training camp and preseason alright. Then the games started counting and he looked like crap. If he played baseball, that toss against the Lions was slow pitch softball. :)

Throwing to Dez Bryant will make any QB look good. Guy catches everything.

and throwing to Josh Gordon doesn't?

Weeden still looked like garbage with the NFL's leading WR in rec yards (who was actually was on pace to break Megatron's receiving yards record had he not been suspended weeks 1 and 2)

Weeden looked like he was headed to the pro bowl during training camp and the preseason last year. Game gets a little more difficult when the other team tries.

Right, it looked like he was capable of "doing an outstanding job"....he just never did an outstanding job....or even a competent job.

Capability and performance are two different things.

reading defenses is a little harder than hitting the big mac symbol button on a cash register.

wonder if weeds and bryant are members involved in the OSU controversy being investigated by the ncaa? (not like they did anything wrong.....but)

something about other teams getting screwed by ncaa that brins a smile to my face after what they did to tressel.

Those two aren't involved. It had more to do with Les Miles' shady ass employment.

How can you be happy? OSU is still getting fucked, the only difference is the O stands for something else.

I'll smile once the NCAA gets fucked for once.

oh i'm not happy. i just like to see a balanced playing field for all teams. if the ncaa wants to go into locker rooms and sniff around i hope they like the flavor of big sweaty balls.

Nothing like a little comic relief over breakfast... thanks, Z...

The first few years I was putting so much pressure on myself, because I thought 'Youve got to take over, youve got to start something that hadnt been very good in the past and take it to the top,' and its hard to do that.

I think now that I can sit there and learn from a great player, Ive got a great coaching staff I can learn from, I know the system so Im comfortable there. I think just fine-tuning my craft and learning the ins and outs of the position.

I think Ed O'Bannon is giving to the NCAA in the ass.

LOL, he'll be collecting Social Security before he "learns the position".

I think what Weeden does have is a much better supporting cast around him. Offensively speaking. Cowboys have alot of firepower and the O-line is solid. Hell, just throw the ball up to Dez, he will make you look good.

Ummm ... he had the best WR in the NFL last year.

And the best Left Tackle.

And one of the best centers. And a very good TE.

But no decent running game, OK, whatever.

Yep, Everlasting Gobstopper thinks he'll be OK now because he can just throw the ball up to Dez Bryant.

NEWSFLASH: Josh Gordon > Dez Bryant

How did that "just throw it up" offense work out for Brandon? 0-5 with 9 ints, 6 fumbles and 27 sacks (which was more in his his 5 starts than the other 11 games combined).
