THE BROWNS BOARD

Air Force General who spoke God in speech should be court-martialed (says atheist group)

"flying complex aircraft; doing complex nuclear missions — I have no ability to do that. God enabled me to do that."

So now God works for the Air Force?

I would guess he got the training for such things IN THE AIR FORCE

And why that bothers you liberals so much is the greater question.

"God spoke to me last night. He told me who the real enemies are. My body was a vessel and he used me to enact justice on the non-believers. I didn't fly that complex aircraft or drop those bombs, God did."

Except he never mentioned "God bombs" Woodrow. You did.

And the only "enacted justice" mentioned in the article was the "aggressive and very visible" kind that the crybaby pussies were demanding be thrown at the Major General.

You know, like maybe a long knife to the throat kind.

Are you this much of a douche in real life?

I never said that he said those things. The previous post asked why someone might be off put by the man's actual comments ("God enabled me to do that"). My hypothetical response was my answer. If you're giving God all of the credit for what you do, and what you do is this complex/important/dangerous, the fear is "God telling you" to do things. You're already throwing reasoning and common sense out of the window, some might worry about what you could do next. Misinterpret a voice in your head as God or something.

Now, feel free to respond in a way that causes me to defend something I never actually said or meant. I look forward to reading it tomorrow...

Um no Woody, you've got the wrong religion, this officer was no rogue warrior.

His flight missions were planned out and assigned by his superior officers, not God.

If he wishes to credit God for guiding him, fine. It's really none of your business.

Almost, but not quite. It wasn't the air force that gave him the abilities, just the force.

He didn't really credit God for guiding him. He credited god for literally doing it for him. He said he got the ability to do these things from God.

Religion is religion. All it takes is someone that's crazy/uneducated /desperate/brainwashed/ etc to be dangerous.

Not saying this guy in particular is, but I'm explaining why people may be uncomfortable with his statement.

I'm sure your comfort level is of the utmost importance in his day-to-day life.

It was at a national day of prayer, kids table.

Because it would be more ridiculous if he only spoke of himself & his own abilities, rather than attributing something/anything to God speaking at a prayer day where this type of thing is expected/encouraged.

Maybe you should try finger painting tomorrow.

We could have a "Kick a Puppy" day where kicking puppies is encouraged. That doesn't make it any better...

But yes, "kids table", "finger painting", very cute. I guess when your only defense is "Well, so, you're younger than me!" I can't expect much out of you. In the way of reasoning or insults.

I remember in boot camp at Great Lakes seeing a huge mural of this image of Jesus standing behind a sailor. That was back in the 70's and I wonder if they still have it now that political correctness has infected the military.

Its a gay looking picture, thats why its not used anymore. If it helps, imagine Jesus as Bruce Jenner. Get it. You can't grab another mans shoulder while he's bent over like that. No wonder gays want in the military, its all Jesus' s fault.

The picture represents God's guidance. Imagine this thread being about a general who an atheist group wants court martialed because he spoke of God's guidance in his life...well you don't really have to imagine that because that is what this thread is about.

Well so far it's proven true. You can't distance yourself from the 13 yr old "I'm skipping Sunday school to play pacman at the arcade" mentality when it comes to discussing religion / Christianity.

Challenge yourself to apply an incremental amount of context to what he's saying, e.g. where he is/his audience and you might actually be able to grasp the frustration of the OP. It was a totally voluntary meeting, not a duty assignment. The athiest group doesn't really have a leg.

But no wait- compare it to a "kicking puppies day" or whatever JV analogy you'd like. Hyperbole looks good on you so far. :/

That atheist group is ridiculous, by the way. I mean, the guy is basically saying he's used the force to hit the right targets (or whatever), which wouldn't fill me with confidence, but as long as he's doing his job, and doing it well, who the fuck cares. Court-marshalled? Ridiculous.

Yeah but what if Vader used the Darkside of the Force to force-choke a puppy?

Doesn't make it right.
