Browns have already signed : S - Donte Carey (Grand Valley State)

2016 Highlights on our UDFA FS???

Now it is a highlight package, with many of them repeated throughout the short vid, so grains of salt including a big competition-level one to be sure, but...

... some read-the-QB centerfielding, some ball skills, some nice PassD tech and decent tackling including a lil whackin'... even lumber bringing in one instance...

FS - Kaimana Nacau 3rd highest rated SPARC for Safety

Highlight Video

First reaction... "Man, BYU faced some shitty QBs, but you don't get that many picks without being in position."

  • Still was the beneficiary of many overthrows and throws into crowds, but had the hands to cash them in.
  • Did like the couple rip-the-ball-out highlights.
  • Tackling? Not a lot of emphasis there with the one "big hit" as much due to the RB delivering the blow as it was Kai... and the RB kinda won although ended up on the ground... call it a tie.

We signed Michigan CB Channing Stribling

One of the top cover corners in CFB last year according to PFF... Great length... Bad in run support... Bad combine numbers

Full write up here: https://www.profootballfocus.com/draft-pff-scouting-report-channing-stribling-cb-michigan/

Interesting stat... "QBs had a rating of 22.7 when throwing at him, the second-lowest mark in the country among CBs targeted at least 40 times. His rating-against over three years was 32.3."

And... "Bottom line: Stribling isn’t going to be drafted until Day 3 because of his athletic measurables, which are noticeable concerns on film. He also struggles to play the run, as he needs to show the same level of physicality and awareness that he does in coverage. With these things being said, his height, competitiveness and ball skills at the catch point are outstanding, and extremely valuable in today’s NFL. If he adds bulk to his frame becomes more disciplined in terms of not jumping first movement, he can develop into a starter despite not being a 4.4 guy."

Almost seems to me like a carrot on a stick would be great in getting this guy to be better in run support. Covering is the hard part, and he seems to have that part down.

Here's a lot of money, if you'd like it, do what you do and also bust your ass to tackle half backs when needed. If you can do that, here's a lot of money...

Combine times were awful... but vastly improved at Pro Day. Too vastly?

Combine Invite: Yes Height: 5104 Weight: 204

40 Yard Dash (ET): 4.70/4.59

225 Lb. Bench Reps: 11

20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.68 3-Cone Drill: 7.63

Pro Day Dates: 03/16/17 Hand: 08 5/8 Arm: 30 5/8 Wingspan: 72 Height: 5104 Weight: 204

40 Yard Dash (HH): 4.63 20 Yard (HH): 2.63 10 Yard (HH): 1.60

20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.58 3-Cone Drill: 7.14

Hard to find 2016 vid on him, but little I found again raised comp level concerns... looked like HS'ers out there... lotta late throws picked...

Not sure if "want to" is for sale, but as Trey Wingo said when another CB was being criticized for not setting edges against the run, "Dominic Rogers-Cromartie has made a good living out of not setting edges against the run."

Appears Bleacher likes a couple of our foundlings...

Undrafted Free Agents Who Could Make Major Waves This Offseason

Kai Nacua, S, Cleveland Browns 2 of 8

One of the very best athletes in the draft, Kai Nacua of BYU made the wise decision to join the safety-needy Cleveland Browns.

Cleveland never addressed the safety position after picking Gerbil Peppers in the first round, leaving the other two spots in new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams' 4-2-5 alignment open for competition. Nacua has the chance to earn playing time early.

2016 contributors Ibraheim Campbell and Ed Reynolds were among the worst starters in the league last year, too often taking bad angles and missing tackles. Their lack of forced turnovers compounded the issue, and Williams will demand more from the position than what those two showed last year. Nacua and fellow newcomer Tyvis Powell have the collegiate resumes to hint they're going to make the final roster as well as waves on the depth chart.

Nacua surprisingly went undrafted despite playing single-high safety for BYU and totaling 14 interceptions in the last three seasons. He's not a great tackler, but that's more of a strength of Peppers and Powell. At his pro day, the 6'1", 205-pound safety ran a great 4.49 time, leaping 39" high and finishing the three-cone drill in a mere 6.87 seconds. He's one of the best athletes in a loaded class and his production is impressive.

Najee Murray, CB, Cleveland Browns 3 of 8

Another secondary undrafted free agent who could make waves for the Cleveland Browns is Najee Murray. The Kent State alum will benefit from the Browns not drafting more than one cornerback despite their need for bodies at the position. And the man they did draft, Howard Wilson, projects best as a boundary corner, while Murray is a slot-only option.

The 5'9", 182-pound corner is reminiscent of Nickell Robey-Coleman, with a tough mindset and willingness to stick his nose in every dogpile to finish the play. Murray began his career at Ohio State before transferring after his freshman season, then quickly established himself as a specialist for the Golden Flash defense. What will help Murray is being able to play special teams early in his career.

Cleveland has one slot corner in Briean Boddy-Calhoun currently, but there's potentially room for one more corner on the roster even with Wilson in the fold. Murray will have the upper hand there due to experience at the role and the lack of other competition currently in-house. Then, even one injury within the unit can further open the door to him leaving his mark on the defense.

Better yet, we signed a guy from Akron. Cock a doodle fucking doo.

DE - Jamal Marcus (Akron)

Here's your lunch pail guy^^I'd bet Bobby Vega scouted this kid in his hometown in Durham,NC. Marcus(4 star recruit) played at OSU behind Noah Spence. 6 tackles vs Clemson at Orange bowl. 2014 Marcus was to start during Spence's suspension at start of season but Meyer suspended him for academic reasons..Jamal Red shirted off to Akron with a chip on his shoulder ever since..66th out of 175 at OLB..Heads up Joe Schobert

Makes one think of Kai at FS & Peppers at SS.....Talk about 2 ATHLETES at safety! I'll leave it to GW to iron out any wrinkles in their games.

Read on bleacher this am this kat has his degree in fitness & health. Could be huge in this locker room getting teammates to eating/hydrate/prepare right way before Camp/Full Season. This dudes game tape could make losing Whitner, Gipson & K-wan a bit easier.. Seems that The Harvard HoundDawgs have hooked on to another good player
