THE BROWNS BOARD

Terrelle Pryor Claimed By Browns

Pryor claimed off of waivers by Browns. Listed as a WR for now.

Pryor is a worthy flyer for Cleveland, which currently can lay claim to the poorest wide receiver depth chart in football. Pryor, 26, dabbled at wideout at Ohio State and has embraced a full-on position switch in an effort to extend his career. Pryor is huge (6'5/232) with low-4.4 timed speed coming out of college. With Vince Mayle, Brian Hartline, Andrew Hawkins, and Taylor Gabriel as his primary competition behind Dwayne Bowe, we wouldn't totally rule out the possibility Pryor earns meaningful wide receiver snaps for the Browns this year. Im thinking WR or some type of hybrid receiver/TE, but would be shocked if they try him at QB ...

Thinks its kind of a wild swing, just in case they can catch lightening in a bottle......

Not expecting much really....though maybe they'll at lease get a lil Bengal Offensive insight while he here....

he'll be gone before the first pre-season game.

i mean really, which QB or a WR is he going to beat out on this team?

i guess farmer thinks you can find diamonds in dog shit once in a while.

I don't think he beats out anyone at QB or WR to earn a position. I think he earns a position as a flex, H-back type TE and then I think he stays just because of his "jack of all trades" ability.

He's 6'4, 235, runs a 4.4 40 and can be an emergency quarterback if we find ourselves in that position. He fits into the offensive philosophy they seem to be implementing - i.e. a bunch of weapons in a bunch of different places.

Assuming Pryor develops even a little bit, he could be a viable receiving TE and redzone threat large body WR. He's less polished but infinitely more athletic than Dray, who is primarily a blocking TE. He's probably only slightly behind our rookies in the learning curve, but he comes with the added experience of being an NFL QB and learning under different NFL coordinators.

I know this is homerism and its likely misplaced enthusiasm, but I am quite excited to see Pryor as a TE. He's no different than the Cameron experiment, except he comes to the team a few years older and with one less year of TE experience.

As I said in a prior (pun intended?) thread it's just a shame he didn't wake up from the start and realize his best shot was exactly what you're talking about. If he would have practiced the craft before arriving in the NFL who knows where he could be now.

His long speed/build reminds me a lot of Gordon

Both have a long stride, effortless motion, and quick turnover that allow them to outrun most

Pryor gives value to the team as a 5th receiver (slot), 3rd TE and emergency QB. Get him coached up to be a gunner and you have a valuable player

Hes a better backup QB than our current one....

Based on their previous NFL bodies of work, this is true.

I actually don't mind Pryor as a potential backup/ emergency QB. He caught a lot of shit for his poor performance, and deservedly so, but he also did show (very brief) flashes of extraordinary NFL talent - mainly while on the move. His arm strength is lacking, his choices were questionable and he doesn't work up the pocket as well as you'd like, but the guy is a true athletic talent and that's undeniable. He was one of the highest rated athletic talents coming out of high school in the past 20 years, if I recall correctly.

Unfortunately, he's proven that he'll never be a true NFL drop back passer. But it's definitely not a bad move to take a crack at him at TE/WR. He has the same measurables as many of these TE converts, he's said he's willing to make the transition and he's crazy cheap (probably).

We don't have any truly transcendant talent at TE and the players that make up our WR corps, while full of potential, haven't done much of anything recently with the exception of Gabriel.

Also, does anyone not see the irony in the fact that he's basically Manziel's athleticism in McCown's body? I wouldn't be surprised if we saw him take some snaps at QB just for shiggles.

This is funny as hell to me.

I definitely will root for him, but I'm more interested in seeing what many of the people who have shit all over Pryor in the past will say.

LOL Tim- must be an Ohio State thing. Braxton Miller still fancies himself as a quarterback. Odds of him beating out Smith or Jones are remote, and in the NFL- about zero.

Something else to note - his agent is Drew Rosenhaus. Get the tinfoil hats ready, but he's a quite powerful agent whose client list includes a few Browns, such as Gordon and Mack. Could the browns be trying to do drew a solid, in the hopes he'll scratch theirs in the next offseason?

My guess is he makes practice squad so he gets a full chance to develop under Browns observation. We'll know by next spring whether he has what it takes.

Can't, he's played too many games. Full roster or nothing.

Pryor is 6'4 230.. the good TE's are 20-30 pounds heavier. Not sure he'll fit as a NFL TE because he's just not beefy enough.. and just like Billy Winn, if you try to bulk him up he probably won't be as athletic.

Demaryius and Dez are the same height/weight. Will TP earn the 5th spot.. or will the Browns carry 6, meaning only one TE/HBack on the gameday roster?

I'd bet on TP on 3rd down over either Hartline or Bowe, and maybe over Mayer at this point.

Somebody nailed this one...

Not exactly a season changer, but an interesting development.

Obviously, Flip is familiar with Pryor, so he may know how he might fit in his offense.

We'll see.

Kind of an important point...

This... Cumulative value potential... deceptively fast due to effortless, long stride.

Return of the "Wild Dog"?
