THE BROWNS BOARD

GoFundMe Campaign for Tammy Strichek

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I just wanted to let you know that we're running a GoFundMe campaign for my mother, Tammy Strichek, who was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 esophageal cancer. I know some people on here have had experiences with the disease and, as I'm sure they can attest, it's a real beast of a disease.

She, like my father, was a lifelong Browns fan. Unfortunately, she had to go and get engaged to a no-good, dirty Packers fan (I'm kidding, her fiancee is an absolutely wonderful man and we have conversations about the Browns daily).

She's from Ashtabula County, born and raised in Geneva-on-the-lake. I know it's a long shot, but there is a chance that maybe someone here is from that area or knew her growing up and could spread the word amongst their friends. We've reached out via her Facebook friends, but I'm trying to cover as many bases as possible.

Even if you can't donate anything, which is completely fine, could you maybe take a second to share this link among your circles in hopes of reaching others?

Thank you all so much.

Extremely sorry to hear this. I will definitely give something. Best of luck. I've had too many friends and family members die of that fucking disease. (Cancer).

Thank you so very much.

We just lost my grandfather in July to the same form of cancer. Diagnosed on July 4th, gone by the end of the month - and the man was as healthy as can be.

I urge everyone to get an upper GI series done, especially if you've had problems with acid reflux, indigestion or heartburn. It's an inexpensive and easy process to go through and it could save your life.

Prayers for you all, and I'm sending this out to a bunch of friends, I'll send a donation.

The technology they have now is fascinating. I have a colonoscopy

every three years because my Dad had that 30 years ago. Lost him a few years ago

to lung cancer.

Never thought about the upper gi cancer. Thanks for the info on that.

My mother had breast cancer...twice :( beat it both times! :D

Hopefully yours can do the same. I know how shitty it is - not just the cancer but everything that goes with it, even if it's radio not chemo, it's still a really draining process, physically and emotionally for all involved.

Thanks, Cal. It means a lot. I'm sorry to hear about your father.

That upper GI stuff really is no joke. I never thought about it until we lost my grandfather and now it seems like I'm hearing so much more about it.

I feel for you tim. My dad has recently been diagnosed with stage 3b lung cancer and I'm also having a tough time dealing with it.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. It's a tough thing to go through for all involved.

Glad to hear it! Success stories like that are what keep people going.

She started aggressive chemo last week and, surprisingly, made it through the first round of treatment relatively unscathed. I know it will get worse, and so does she, but she was able to go out and walk the beach and have a relatively normal Easter vacation...so that was nice.

It takes about a week to really kick in, and lasts for two. Fortunately, my old lady had a session only every three weeks, so she at least had a week of 'normality' - that is, apart from the hair (and eyebrows) falling out, the nails turning to crap and the vomiting. I'm glad you managed to get a decent easter, but "winter is coming" as they say ;) Not to dampen spirits, but it basically is guaranteed. It's very easy, then, for your mother to fall in to the trap of "I don't have the energy" - you've got to keep her active if you possibly can, just going out for a 10-minute walk or something, every day.

But hey, I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir, so I'll stop!

Do keep us updated - differences in opinions on whether to draft a WR in round 1 or round 2 are really put in to perspective by things like this, and this board is kind of like a weird, creepy extended family ;)

She made it through her first and second rounds so far without any major side effects, so fingers are crossed. Her energy is, of course, waning, but she still is active enough to putter around in the yard, go on walks, etc. I know the bad stuff is around the corner, so I'm just enjoying the good stuff with her while I can.

It's crazy to believe, but I've been posting here for about 6 years now. I posted something here the day my father died and it somehow made it back to my family, who then read it at my father's funeral. This place is like an extended family, even though I haven't met any of you. It's definitely an odd, but great, place.
