THE BROWNS BOARD

Ben Tate discontented.

Wtf, he has 3 less carries than west and he missed 2 games. He has less ypc by .4 ypc. Sounds like heos getting plenty of reps. Enjoy your cash money and easy workload. Christ, is anyone ever satisfied?

And Mary Kay is the worst.

Got to love coaches that don't fall in love with the player but instead falls in love with the talent on the field at practice and GAMEDAY period...Go Browns!!

She threw out the bait and he foolishly bit. His answers should have been all about the 6-3 record and tops in the division and all about "team". Just dumb on his part. He can save the "real" answers for his coach to hear in private so Pettine can give him straightforward answers on what he has to do to improve that # of carries. Now that is something he can count on.

Honestly speaking I did not see anything particularly wrong in Tate's words. He was answering straight questions with straight answers.

The guy wants to play. Tough to say he shouldn't, he came to Cleveland as THE RB.

The guy also clearly said that the team will do anything that would help winning games. And also that is tough to argue.

With the only exception of the top 3 or 4, every RB around the league knows that he plays in the most volatile position after Kickers and Punters. And this league is more and more "what can you do for me right now".

He'll try to prove he's the best in the committee but if he goes, there'll be another one coming just like the undrafted rookie that is doing so well for us this year.

No news here. He said he wasn't satisfied with basically losing the starting RB job to a rookie... who would be?

He didn't say anything about being "discontented," but only seemed disappointed that he has not come out as the feature back. He later went on to admit that the younger guys have gotten better... Sure, he wishes he was playing more but I think he sees that West has just outplayed him. He'll have plenty of touches to shine, but he needs to make the most of them to be satisfied... That doesn't sound very newsworthy, especially not as any sort of negative...

Gotta wonder what is going on with him. He rushed for 127 yards the game he came back from injury, so we know he can do it. He just seems like his vision has been off lately, like he isn't seeing the holes because I keep seeing him run into linemen.

We can see him do it sometimes, make the read really fast and explode into it (like his last TD run). Then other times, he's waiting around for something to happen. Sometimes he makes the wrong cut, inside when he should go outside or vice versa. He needs to get on par with the baby backs, who are mostly making the right cuts and definitely exploding from their first step every play, not just the ones that give points.

So now feeling like you are being underutilized is "discontent"? Holy fuck, people...

Yeah, he "took the bait"...

He came here to be the lead dog -- said the Browns told him he would be -- and now he's just one of the pack. So what can he do now that this isn't what he signed up for?

"Nothing,'' he said. "Keep working. Keep getting better every try,'' he said. "Life never pans out the way you want it to. It's a bump in the road. Keep going."

Tate, who's role has steadily declined, was careful not to come right out and directly complain about his limited role, but the message was clear: he's not happy, but he'll roll with it.

"We're winning,'' he said. "We're 6-3 and in first place, that's all that really matters.''

Is it hard to object when you're in first place in the division?

"Who would do that?'' he asked. "You'd look like the bad guy. You don't do that (laughs)''

Would he have signed here if he knew he'd be part of the backfield trio?

"I don't really want to get into that now,'' he said. "Our focus is on the Texans this week."

...for fuck's sake...

Bad case of Mack-down-itis... took down every back's YPC in case you haven't noticed.

I don't know if it is due to injuries, but it seems like West and Crowell are much faster, especially hitting the hole. Tate does, so far have good ball security, and doesn't he catch well out of the backfield? Just doesn't seem to have the burst. To me, if I see Tate and then Crowell then the speed seems like night and day.

what does this even mean...?

There was a lot of preseason talk about changing the culture in the locker room, as in the losing defeatist culture.

My speculation was that Mary Kay had been covering a team with a losing culture for so long that she's had to adapt. Create stories where there shouldn't be any, just to get people talking.

She needs to adapt herself and learn how to cover a team with a winning culture. More positive stories, less feather ruffling.

And Korean, a play on the word "culture." Didn't get it, not funny, no worries man.

Crow has looked most decisive and aggressive, and therefore "faster".

West danced a lot early on, and it got him benched, but has been more decisive (and maybe aware) since returning to the line-up.

When there's a hole/ crease Tate has hit it hard, but since Mack went down the wide zone has produced few cracks let alone creases... and it seems like more of Tate's runs have been wide.

As for speed... coming out of college Tate was by far the fastest.

Mark Sessler wrote an article on NFL.com saying that Tate was "disappointed" in his amount of carries. But didn't want to complain. Why does the media look for and create controversy where there isn't any? Tate, like any other player wants the ball. What else is new. Keyshawn Johnson wrote a book titled "Throw Me The Damn Ball" in his rookie year.

I'm sure Tate isn't having regrets about being a Brown. After all, they're in first place in a tough division, whereas the Texans aren't about to win anything in the near future.

Tate is a gamer and a team player. Don't read anything into a silly article.

espn had the topic slider on nfl today with the topic 'troubled running game in cleveland'.

fucking idiots. same as all the others in preseason that had to (and still do to this today) look for any smoke in the manziel/hoyer debate.

fuck 'em all, big and small.

How can you complain by doing minimal at your job and make a millionbucks?

Because competitors like to compete... Not justifying his bitchiness, but that's a stupid thing of you to say. I'd be worried if that was any players mindset.

Saw that... and when the topic was discussed nothing about Tate being "discontent" was mentioned. The segment was about how Pettine has created a positive, earn-it-in-practice atmosphere.

Most players that whine don't stickaround on their team too long. There are receptions.

I agree about the receptions part. Even if the carries being split 3 ways means Tate's not going to average 20-25 carries a game, his receptions vs. TB and Cin helped and a few more could help out the deep balls to Gabe, Hawk, Cameron, Benji and Gordon

I can't stand MKC, but as long as she stirs up controversy she's going to sell some newspapers.
