The problem is that the bible is not politically correct so to be a chaplain today in the military you have to practice the new religion of political correctness. Because political correctness is not compatible with some bible verses you will either have to come up with a rewritten bible that is politically correct or just take a pocket knife and cut out some bible verses. There is going to be a showdown between religious freedom and political correctness. If you are in the service and you don't want Christian counseling then don't go to a Christian Chaplain and then not like what you hear and complain. It should be that simple. I don't want to see gay people discriminated against or treated badly because they are gay. I thought civil unions were a good way to protect the rights of gays without re-defining the definition of marriage between one man and one woman. Now that is is being changed what is to stop other changes to marriage such as why a man can't have multiple wives. Why should the government be able to stop him? Isn't that his right for the pursuit of happiness? The gay people I know I like them on a personal level but they know I cannot accept that lifestyle when it goes against clear bible teaching. It is clearly condemned in the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. The Apostle Paul who condemned homosexuality as a sin never said it was an unpardonable sin but it was a wrong sinful lifestyle that one needed to turn away from. Paul just didn't focus on homosexuality as wrong but other sins as well. Paul was handpicked by Jesus himself to take the gospel to the Gentiles and what he wrote cannot be dismissed lightly. I respect Christians and their beliefs, and I was raised in a catholic family. A lot of good can come from being a Christian and a man of God, but when you start to mix faith and beliefs with fact and reason I cannot side with faith. We are getting a bit off-topic here. Back to the OP, I think it is absurd that the military may ban this man regardless of his beliefs.
