THE BROWNS BOARD

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Recommended Posts

The Good:

--Hoyer was very efficient. He gets rid of the ball quickly. He makes excellent reads. He is accurate on the short and intermediate routes most of the time. He stays cool. He is in command.

--Crowell is a nice one-cut runner suited for the ZBS. I like his burst over West's.

--Shanny's play calling was very good for most of the afternoon. He kept them off-balance. He mixed in the run and pass well. His route progressions were very nice.

--Agnew was a good guy to keep. He is an effective lead blocker.

--The entire OL had a very good day. That's a tough D-line. We handled them most of the day.

--Grecco is amazing me at RG. The guy opens up great holes.

--Cameron actually blocked yesterday.

--Hawkins is a legit WR. Heck, the entire unit is playing much better than I ever imagined.

--Kruger had some nice plays on defense.

--Gipson is a ball hawk.

The Bad:

--Taylor is so overrated. He rarely makes a play.

--I saw Sheard, Mingo, and Kruger all get sealed inside on outside runs.

--Gilbert in coverage.

--West making a dumb penalty and going the wrong way.

--How many times are we going to get called for 12 men in the huddle?

--Hoyer's deep passes.

--Dansby in the running game.

--The entire D-line against the run.

--How did Gabriel fall down on that long pass?

--The reverse when we were on a roll.

The Ugly:

--Why in the hell did they have Gilbert in the game towards the end? He sucks.

--The bad snap on the 50 yard FG. Cundiff still almost made it.

--Winn's whiff on the block kick.

--The lack of a TO when they saw that the Rats overloaded the offensive right side on the blocked kick.

--Benjamin being a pussy and not fielding the last punt.

--Joe Haden proving once again that he is the most overrated player [in terms of $] in the NFL.

--Once again.............snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Gilbert is a rookie. I dontnhave much of an opinion on him one way or another. Dennard was my favorite corner in this past draft with fuller close behind. No matter what the learning curve for a rookie is steep so I wouldn't put the verdict down on gilbert just yet.

Well .. If a corner is supposed be as talented as Gilbert, was touted as being.. You would think you would see some flashes of brilliance at this point, and it is not happening. Like Mingo. He looks totally lost in the sauce half the time...

So far.... I'm just not seeing it.

I didn't say I have given up on Gilbert. Sorry for the confusion. My point is that he looked like a fool in coverage yesterday and I can't believe we put him in there w/the game on the line.

Mingo? Unlike most, I see the positives in this guy. I just don't understand why we kept lining him up as the SOLB and putting Kruger on the weak side? That made no sense to me.

In terms of a pass rush, the only thing I could think of is that the coaching staff felt the 2nd best pass rusher on the team could beat the Ravens 2nd best pass protector. It also might have something to do with Mingo not being able to hold his own on open side runs.

It's pretty sad that a fan of a rival team is more cognizant of our roster than most of us are. We all knew Gilbert, much like Mingo, was drafted as high as he was for his potential, meaning it will take time, reps, and a fair share of lumps before he puts it all together. Gilbert is a prospect with all the necessary physical tools to be top flight NFL player. He wasn't expected to come in and light it up from day one. Look up his scouting reports and it will clearly state that he lacks the polish to guarantee an immediate return on investment as it were.

All of this whiny, negative bullshit is getting incredibly old. 3 weeks into his rookie season and y'all are ready to throw in the towel. I know TMZ has been playing an oversized role in the NFL recently but I guarantee if any of their employees read this constant stream of garbage, they would be embarrassed by how much you bitches are overreacting. Grow a fucking sac.

I've never been more ashamed to be a Brown's fan than after reading the past 28 hours of post here.

Do you want to know how bad it's gotten around here? Sojo actually posted a positive thread. If that isn't enough of a wake up call, you pussies are a lost cause.

I am not ready to throw in the towel. But, Joe Haden in his 5th year is getting worse.

Some good stuff, but also...

The Good:
--Agnew was a good guy to keep. He is an effective lead blocker.
Ummm... no...
--The entire OL had a very good day. That's a tough D-line. We handled them most of the day.
We were good, we've been better, but it was the best line we've faced to date.
--Grecco is amazing me at RG. The guy opens up great holes.
He had a very good first half.
--Cameron actually blocked yesterday.
Must have been in the 2nd half...

The Bad:
--Hoyer's deep passes.
What about them? The pass to Gabe was well thrown.
--How did Gabriel fall down on that long pass?
Gravity... plus his panic when he realized his slowing down earlier in the route could cost him a completion.
--The reverse when we were on a roll.
The reverse hurt nothing. It lost 2 yds and we went on to score on our opening drive. But it foretold the excessive trickeration to come.

The Ugly:
--Winn's whiff on the block kick.
Wasn't his man... in fact he wasn't anyone's man. You never open up an inside gap to take the outside man.
--The lack of a TO when they saw that the Rats overloaded the offensive right side on the blocked kick.
Would have been a waste of a TO...

It's far more likely that the money is making him try to hard than it has made him lie down.

But I don't think it's either...

I think the rules "emphasis" has taken away a chuck of what has made him great in the past... and he has been great.

The Good was having TWO first round picks.

The Bad was Trading away the fourth pick when Mike Evans was available.

The Good was getting a quarterback.

The Bad was taking Gilbert in the first round when he wasn't even the best corner in the draft.

When will this organization get serious about winning and hire competent people.

I will say this once more: Evans at #4 and if Manziel isn't there take Jimmy Garapollo or Derek Carr. After all, they don't have the balls to play a rookie quarterback. And we now have Andrew Hawkins as our number 1 receiver.

Oh yea, I forgot. Hoyer threw behind the receiver two weeks in a row. Against the Saints, Hawkins had to come back to get the first down. If Hoyer had a stronger arm its a touchdown. Against the Ravens same thing. The receiver is wide open not a defender in sight. An easy score only Gabriel has to come back to catch the ball. It's laughable when you think about another season like the last twenty!

You really should check the tape...

The reason Gabe fell against the Ravens is that he had slowed down earlier in the route and had to hustle to catch up to the ball.

If you are referring to the catch Hawk made to set up the winning FG vs. the Saints, that was guided, but it was also intentionally thrown high and soft to insure a catch. Hawk was so wide open due to the blown coverage Hoyer could safely do so.

But you know what was really cool about the latter play? It was a completed pass and we won the game on the next play.

EDIT: ... and Mike Evans is an overrated, one trick pony.

It's time to let it go with Haden, good lord. Everyone watching the Browns can see he's struggling this year. But the fact of the matter is 32 of 32 NFL teams would take and have Haden as a starter on their team. I don't give a shit if he's "elite", he's a very solid player who is struggling right now. The bye being early this year for the Browns is really, really good for all this. It will give Pettine and crew a chance to look at everything and get better. I'm sure that will include Haden.

gotta disagree with our OLB'ers getting sealed inside. All of them have been setting the edge perfectly the whole season. Last sunday I started to see them try to spin off inside to try to help tackle the runners that always got through on the inside. That's not their job, it's the ILB'ers that aren't getting the job done.

Maybe it'd help if you change your screen name to "Angel Eyes"...

LOL!

I have to agree with Taco. A victory makes all these petty complaints disappear. Every team has very good players get burned at some point every Sunday in this league. Every team targets rooks in this league for a very good reason. Every QB has an imperfect game every Sunday (I assume you saw King Manning picked off with a bad decision last Sunday late in the game). This team looks like they are on the verge of something special in the next couple of years. I plan to be part of it and I hope folks here will get the cure for Battered Browns Syndrome (BBS) and jump on board regardless of the score. Focus on the changes you DO like. I see a lot of them and it will get better.

It's not the offense

We are currently ranked 11th overall in points per game and 13th overall in yards per game.

Defense on the other hand, we are ranked 2nd to last in yards given up per game.

Petitine need to spent more time on defense and not worry about "packages for Johnny Manziel".

We should had taken MACK at 4 and then grab Carr or Bridgewater later...

Mack has been fock'n lights out!

http://www.rantsports.com/nfl/2014/09/23/khalil-mack-is-everything-the-oakland-raiders-wanted-and-more/

"His 8.5 rating against the run is by far the best around the league, with Von Miller coming in second at a modest 5.5. Put simply, Mack has been dominant, and he’s just getting started."

what's laughable is you think this was worth the time u took to type this.

ur talking completely out ur ass....the long bomb to Gabriel displayed Hoyer's deep pass ability--it went 58 yrds THRU THE AIR.

fantabulous fart fiction or shaming shart speech? agenda laden, regardless.

Should have, what if, doesn't matter now. Every team could sit there with heartburn over lost draft opportunities.

great point about the bye, very good timing. 5% better for the past month makes us 3-0 rt now...and beats tennessee.

EVERYONE possesses tendencies that show up on film. offense--defense...QB's...receivers...db's everybody...including Megatrons, Ray Lewis'...the Joe Thomas' and yes even the 5th yr Joe Hadens of the world continually have things to correct.

most certainly capable pick-sixing pro-bowl-worthy A.J. Green-dominating guys that get game-planned around.

did i mention i love me some Joe Haden? while he may not hit as hard as he would like himself to, he has come a long way since his pair of peach fuzzy years in FL and now...entering the prime of his career in only his 7th year total as a CB...he is at minimum a sure tackler who NEVER shies away from contact or the matchup no matter who it is. dude is 90% of Cleveland's swag. seriously.

everybody gets beat some times but this is definitely improvable. they need to pin point what some teams have keyed in on and make the necessary adjustments...and my prediction is they will.
