mjp28
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- National Signing Day is usually a day filled with drama and excitement and uncertainty. That's what makes it fun. But with Ohio State this year, that's not necessarily the case. Urban Meyer enters the day with 20 verbal commitments, and yes, he'll be waiting around like everyone else at roughly 4 p.m. (ET) waiting on a decision from five-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson of Bellaire (Texas) Episcopal. wargograw
All great classes are dirty. mjp, how was it "not necessarily the case" that signing day was "filled with drama and excitement and uncertainty" for Ohio State? Seems like it was plenty drama-filled to me.

Seems like it was plenty drama-filled to me. Yeah I thought that was an "interesting" lead in on a signing day or should we say signing season story. I think it crosses over into a religion or obsession particularly at the football factory schools like Alabama and Ohio State. Kind of makes it fun in a soap opera-ish way, GO BUCKEYES! MLD Woody
USC was a story. Texas was a story Maryland was a story OSU was as expected Michigan picked up two highly touted recruits right out of SEC country. One a 5* that was a direct result of the satellite camps. If the shoe fitsBasically, generally it goes like this, there's a huge difference between a 5* scholar and a 5* athlete one spends a lot of time in library and can be boring the other has some potential to play football on Sunday and can come with certain "baggage". Now if you want a perennial top 10 or in some cases top 5 athletic program you just deal with it to make the fans, boosters and major networks happy and they gladly will buy the tickets and other merchandise to keep it going...hopefully forever. And 11 of the top 48 schools are from the BIG TEN plus go up and down the top 10, 25 whatever teams and over the years you can find plenty of scandals. ....no matter which shoes you're wearing! I have some great stories from the 60s and 70s from guys I knew and their recruiting trips and basically was wide open. Cars, money and beautiful women. I followed them for awhile back then. Different brand of football even today.

Came in very high in the Heisman voting. Don't think any Ivy Leaguer has come anywhere near since.

I checked on vegasinsider.com and they had NO lines from 2016. The Ivy League does come out with occasional NFL drafted and FA players but isn't the national draw it was many decades ago.
