jcam222
I'll be the first to admit I watch very little college ball. For those of you who do tell me why he is so much better than Derek Barnett for example. Even Solomon Thomas. Also if you have followed him personally does he love football? Does he take plays off? Is he as surefire as the hype? Lastly if you don't believe he actually is a lock at #1 who do you take or do you move down a few spots? EDIT- Expand the thought process to not only is he the best DE but is he the best player.

Mudfly
Ill jump in here.... 1) I think the "best player" is Adams..... 2) I think Solomon Thomas "could" end up being the best DE.....50/50 proposition for me....so Id still lean toward Garrett simply because he has the higher ceiling.....but its very very close.... 3) Id move back....but only as far as #2 or #3.....because I would not trade out of my top 3, which I have ranked very closely.... On the same page. If Chicago offered so they could get Trubs, I'd take it knowing I get another pick plus either Garrett or Thomas, both of whom will be excellent edge guys. I like Adams but we need one of the top 2 edge players up there with him in quality.
gumby73
the 2 best set-up for NFL impact our Soloman Thomas & Jamal Adams..Thomas a run stuffer if you decide to run at him. A RB can double him or chip him also. His success is at 3 tech if a Brown..Adams is great in coverage & carries a big stick, but most come 5 yards down field. Garrett brings the most at his position as a Edge/pass rusher that gives your defense a time factor that will force the QB's play..They don't make many long armed, athletic freaks with burst off ball like Garrett. Good God don't F this Up at #1.It's Garrett. The # of needed Top position Prospects still sitting at Jets @6 will be hard to watch fall off to 12..Enjoy suffering like the Lava Lava dance..I Hope it happens again. Mudfly
Good stuff Mud. Let me ask you , would the Titans 5 and 18 persuade you to drop two more spot? Im not sure it would.....unless I was confident I had a trade partner inside that top 5 that would let me trade back in..... Then I could see something like getting the 5 and 18 picks.....and using my 2.1 and #12 to move back into #3 range.... So....Id have 3 - 5 and 18.... Id do that.... But settling for #5 and #12 leaves me with huge potential NOT to get one of my coveted players and Im not ready to take that pass....again..... Comeonman
Garrets ability to get in the backfield from what I saw of him in college is uncanny, even against good teams like Bama. They played him not only in DE but in the middle as well and he shined. His quickness and strength are unequaled by even Thomas imo and he should be a lock. All what Garrett CAN bring to the Browns defense outweighs Adams(position) or Thomas(doubles)..Defense wins getting ball out of QB's hands. Clevfan4life
Garetts only deficiency is locking out ol at the point of attack. He doesnt get blown off the point but he gets swallowed up and inable to read the play. If we didnt already have og and nas perhaps id be more concerned havong to throw garett in under full time duty from day 1. Having those other two guys means the heavy lifting isnt all on garett. Ease him into the rotation. Use him at first more on passing downs. His rushing ability is like von miller in a frame that is 20+ lbs heavier and stronger. Thats why we cant pass on him. I was wondering if anyone else caught that with the few times they would move him to the inside tackle spot, sometime R and sometimes L, but always unexpected and very difficult to defend for those suddenly seeing him there. Here's a good example when he got after Dobbs. Moved inside to R Tackle to first split C - G and then running around/over the guard. https://youtu.be/2uD_FOOHy7I?t=1m14s
LondonBrown
Warren Sapp doesn't seem to think so http://es.pn/2pT2qCL As the NFL draft approaches this week, Hall of Fame defensive lineman Warren Sapp is struggling to understand why Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett is poised to be the No. 1 pick. "I don't see it from this kid," Sapp said Sunday about Garrett. "I see the splash plays -- everybody gets those. Where's the game he took over? Where? Any defensive lineman who's the No. 1 pick, you turn up and you say, 'There it is!' This kid, no, I don't. I'm a pretty plain and frank guy, and I watch the tape and he disappears. I watch the tape and he absolutely disappears." 5:45 PM BST Adam Schefter ESPN Senior Writer As the NFL draft approaches this week, Hall of Fame defensive lineman Warren Sapp is struggling to understand why Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett is poised to be the No. I watch the tape and he absolutely disappears." Still, Garrett is considered the favorite to go No. 1 to Cleveland Browns, who also used the No. 1 overall pick in the 2000 draft on Penn State defensive end Courtney Brown. Myles Garrett is the top-ranked prospect on many draft boards, but pass-rushers often struggle to put up big numbers as rookies. AP Photo/Eric Christian Smith "I don't think this kid is as good as Courtney Brown, either," Sapp said. Sapp believes teams have fallen for Garrett for one reason only. "It's all about measurable," he said. "Once you hit the measurable, it's tough to get them old scout people off the numbers, and that's what [Garrett] has. He's big and he's fast. Now some defensive line coach is thinking, 'I can turn him into something.' How? I'm trying to figure this out. Really? Are we lowering the bar?" Sapp said he has studied a handful of games that Garrett has played on tape, but he said it didn't take him long to realize the type of player that Garrett is. Now, as Garrett is closing in on becoming the first defensive lineman drafted No. 1 overall since Jadeveon Clowney in 2014, Sapp wonders how important the game is to him. "I see a lazy kid that makes four plays a game," Sapp said. "This is the No. 1 guy? No, no, no. This ain't even close."

Mudfly
probably adams Now, that I would understand... And...Im not surprised this is an Adam Schefter article....sensationalist that he is..... As usual, he didnt even get the complete story...IE, who Sapp would have picked... And the last line says it all....(purely for effect).... "I see a lazy kid that makes four plays a game," Sapp said. "This is the No. 1 guy? No, no, no. This ain't even close." Clevfan4life
Lazy player? Is sapp serious? Is this the nfl attemting to keep garett out of cleveland? Garett has things he needs to work on but lazy? I need clarification from sapp on how he's judging that.
cambridgeho
Garrett is still developing. He was double teamed alot. So im sure it pissed him off. The Nfl players will hold him more accountable. I just like the thought of him making his opposite side even better from last year. I think Ogba flashed alot last year and with Garrett added, will be even better. Also, i wish we traded up to 3 or 4 to get Jamal Adams.
RoyceRolls
if the Browns stay at 1 and don't draft Garrett, they'd better be right... if Garrett ends up being a perennial pro bowler in San Fran and the Browns end up with Blaine Gabbert 2.0 its hard reset time yet again. D Bone
Well, at least Sapp didn't use the word ordinary, cause we know how that worked out last time...... tiamat63
I don't necessarily say I agree with Sapp but I wonder Myles is the type of kid to walk away from football should the game give him adversity. Physically speaking he's a fucking creature, but I've said this before - there's something on his tape that I can't put my finger on I just don't like. Clevfan4life
Well if he doesnt like adversity he could have shut it down with that ankle sprain. He didnt need a pro day after the combine right? In fact that pro day was a big risk but he wanted to better his results. It kind of speaks to the kids drive
RoyceRolls
There is an eerie feeling to it, with everyone crowning him as the obvious #1. There's a lurking uneasiness in the pit of my stomach, but I still think he's the pick.
TexasAg1969
Sapp said exactly the same about Clowney. Just an old guy he wants to stay in the spotlight when others younger than he are shining. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2705273-warren-sapp-calls-myles-garrett-lazy-says-hes-not-no-1-pick-material From the article: "His analysis of the Aggies star echoes his evaluation of Jadeveon Clowney when Clowney was the consensus best player in the 2014 draft. "I look at [Clowney's] tape, and I don't see a guy that is playing the game with his hair on fire, making plays, running up and down the field sideline to sideline, doing all of the things," Sapp said in April 2014 (h/t the Houston Chronicle). Clowney batted injuries in his first two years but reached the Pro Bowl in 2016 after finishing with 52 tackles and six sacks. In January, Pro Football Focus' Sam Monson listed Clowney No. 23 among the 25 best players under the age of 25."
D Bone
So much is made about measurables - 40 time, arm length, long jump, shuttle time, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada..... There are only two things that make the great players great, and it's their heart and brain. So while everyone - or at least most, like to geek out on his 'freakish physical measurables', if he doesn't have that certain something burning deep inside of him that few have, then it will all be for not. I'll wait a while to buy a ticket to his HoF induction ceremony.
jcam222
I've certainly read others warning signs on this guy. Several have said he takes plays off. I believe he said no one plays hard every play. Declining interviews to me is a flag too. If he can't deal with a little adversity for an interview how does he react to a bad game? Bad local press? Bad local press?Thats a good point to bring up. He canceled an interview apparently because of someone who had spoken poorly of him in the past (about his play I believe). It just seems to me the guys that beat the shit out of people on the field would normally be the ones to speak with someone like that and challenge their talk on record, but that may just be me.
