gftChris
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-middle-east-34908469 Of course there's confusion as to what exactly happened: "While Turkey is talking about shooting down a plane over its airspace, Russia is saying first and foremost that this Russian plane was in Syrian airspace for the entirety of its flight and it claims it can prove that." bbedward
on the flipside, won't be playing slap and tickle on the Turkish border anymore huh? Russia says the planes were in Syrian territory, but regardless Russia already said Turkey is an accomplice of terrorists - so things could get interesting. Pretty much everybody in the presidential race intends to put a no-fly zone over the Iraq-Syria border - which is obviously a huge point for Isis targets I'd imagine. So if Hillary/Bush/Carson/Cruz/Rubio/Kasich/One of those guys get elected president then we may be in WW3

Russia has been allowed to fly their planes into European airspace with no repercussions for years. They probably thought Turkey would let them do the same thing. Clevfan4life
oh i'll bet technically the plane wasn't in Turkish space, but the Turks warned them don't even come close after a couple rooskies went into Turkish space. So if that plane was toeing the border than....well......the Turks are not punks, they gave em one time to fuck off. Now that radar's hot huh? I hope the Russians got a lesson in not playing cowboy. gftChris
FWIW, 'alliance' jets have been searching for a russian sub in the north sea for the last 10 days. It was spotted off the coast of scotland at that time, and the UK doesn't have the jets that can hunt subs, so we're being helped by the french. Fucking russians have been pissing me off with this 'I'm not in your territory I'm allowed to be here' bullshit they've been pulling over the last couple of years. I'm not shocked it caught up with them.

bbedward
Obama is quickly supporting Turkey, no surprise there. If you know anything about Russia and Putin, they aren't going to back down over this. They're basically saying Turkey supports terrorists. *edit* Here's Putin's statement: We have long identified that there are a lot of oil and petro products coming to Turkey from [iSIS] territory. And some of these military groups get their financing from there. And now they stab us in the back; they hit our planes that are fighting terrorism. Together with the US partners, we signed an agreement to prevent incidents in the air. And they announce that they are fighting terrorism as part of the US-led coalition. If ISIS has these amounts of money — and could it be even billions of dollars — due to the sales of oil and plus they have protection of the armed forces of the big state, then now it's clear why they're so blatant, why they kill people in the most barbarous, heinous ways. Why they conduct terrorist attacks in many places, including in the heart of Europe. Certainly, we will analyze what's happening very seriously, and today's tragic event will have serious consequences for Russian-Turkish relations. We have always treated Turkey as not just a close neighbor, but as a friendly state. I don't know in whose interests today's incident is, but it's not in our interest. And instead of immediately establishing the necessary contacting us, the Turkish authorities immediately their NATO partners, as if we downed a Turkish jet. bbedward
The FSA used an american missile to blow the Russian rescue chopper out of the sky too that was going to search for the pilots. (The FSA is who the USA supports 100%) while yelling allahu akbar - also saw a video yelling over the pilots dead corpse "allahu akbar" So called "moderates" http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2015/11/24/reports-syrian-rebels-down-russian-rescue-helicopter/76310300/ --- *edit* Personally, I think we should use this as an excuse to quit on the rebels and stop arming them. Obama will double down though and say they were right to shoot down the search and rescue chopper and chant allahu akbar over the dead bodies on video and post it to social media

bbedward
are you fucking kidding me? they shot the rescue chopper down? oh ffs this is gonna get real ugly. The FSA ("moderate" rebels) shot at the two pilots while they were parachuting down (a war crime according to article 42 of protocol 1 of the geneva conventions) which killed one of them. Then they blew up the search and rescue chopper with an anti-tank missile from the USA - which killed the other one. Ugly I'd say indeed, the cat's out of the bag now and we can pretty much confirm the "moderates" we're supporting are guilty of war crimes. OldBrownsFan
I'm not sure even if the FSA we support was able to topple Assad in Syria that we would see any different result than what happened in Libya when we helped topple Khadaffi. jbluhm86
From the reports that are coming in, it appears that the blame might be on Russia for this one; the pilot was warned multiple times to leave Turkish airspace before it was fired upon: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-turkey-russian-plane-20151124-story.html Statement from NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg: http://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/news_125052.htm Either way, this situation needs to be resolved quickly before it spirals out of control. ISIS can only use any disagreement between Russia and NATO to its advantage.
bbedward
There's conflicting reports - some say the Russian plane was only in turkey air space for a few seconds 1.5km deep. And the pilots landed in Syria - where they got killed by the FSA. FSA also shot down rescue chopper and posted videos yelling allahu Akbar over the dead Russian bodies to social media. People are scared of Russia, but Turkey doesn't have a history of being a good guy - their #1 goal is toppling Assad which is why they are anti-Russia but they buy oil from Isis and keep supply lines open, they helped prop up Isis, and bomb Kurdish fighters who fight Isis. bbedward
It's safe to say whatever obummao does is the wrong thing, designed to severely weaken the U.S. In this case, yes. Russian plane was in Turkish airspace for 17 seconds (Obama immediately supported Turkey without knowing the facts) and the FSA people we support barbarically laughed and yelled allahu akbar while shooting defenseless Russian pilots parachuting down and blew up the search and rescue chopper coming for them. Clevfan4life
LOL remember that rant you went on about how badass the Russian Migs were and not to fuck with them? LOL Did you bother to see what kind of plane got shot down or did you choke on your own spittle in your haste to write that piece of what you thought was gotcha? Two things... 1) It was a plane that debuted in 1974, the SU-24 2) It's not even a fighter, it's a bomber. Pretty sure when I talked about the russian and euro planes that gave the F-22 a people's beating during the wargames, I wasn't talking about 3rd gen fighters from the 70's you mental ninny.
