The ignorant lead the charge yet again

Let soccer grow while baseball dies

Seriously? Have you been paying any attention at all? Baseball had perhaps its finest moment in decades just now. It had basically unprecedented ratings. It had record attendance. It had 5 million people show up for a victory parade.

Do you think 5 million people would have shown up for a soccer team championship parade?

Soccer is growing.

I am the one that pointed out that soccer could/should perhaps fill the void in places that the NFL is abandoning/ignoring....like San Diego, East Bay, San Antonio, St. Louis, etc.

But beyond that, your statement is what is ignorant.

MLB Baseball and even NFL football has had issues with TV viewership and Gameday attendance particularly with the younger groups in particular the Millenials who have around a 10 second attention span and go crazy while the teams go into the dugout between innings or the pitcher shakes off a pitch.

Plus they can't manage at all unless they have their cell phone to take selfies and text talk to someone....maybe try a pacifier? All not great for selling tickets.

However there has been some improvement in MLB attendance as of late but we'll have to see if that continues.

Oh and why are more kids going into "soccer".... mommy won't let them play football. ;)

From what I've heard our macho manly AMERICAN FOOTBALL has been making some headway into European and other markets and not just US GIs and American tourists.

....maybe an ounce or two of hope for them afterall? Maybe.

It has, but largely watching, rather than playing. I have really struggled to find anywhere to actually play that isn't at least 90 minutes away and I don't have a car, and I think it's much worse for kids age groups. Finding one team would be tough, let alone enough in the same area to have regular games.

Soccer of course appeals to over protective parents who don't want their kids playing "rough" sports and I'm pretty sure rugby suffers from the same thing here to some degree.

The only thing is the way I understand it, more kids actually suffer concussions from soccer than they do from football. (though other injuries....like knee injuries may not occur as much). I am not sure how accurate this is, but I have heard this.

Soccer the secret hidden head trama menace!! :o (d'uh, you hit de' ball with your melon, what a stupid boring game Zzzzzzooooo )

And SHOCKER NCAA and NFL football is now safer than it's been in many decades....well after dragging the NFL into court with a drop dead unwinnable case from their end and the deceased's brain samples to prove it....they settled and enacted the best concussion protocols ever with big fines and ejections to boot!

Result tackling and hitting is done way more correctly than it was when I played full uniform tackle football in the 5th grade. (ok it was flag but it was full tackle in pick up games)

Now try to get mom to agree with this.

Oh one note, the RBs are kind of on an island running up the middle you can kill them if you want.

Think Ezekiel talked strange at OSU well just wait a few years, unfortunately. (BUT again he was great this year on my FL. ;) )

As I suspected. San Diego is applying for a team in the MLS in the wake of the Chargers moving out.

They would build a 30K stadium, but it would be all privately funded. But, it seems that the voters still would have to vote for the City to be allowed to purchase the land where Qualcomm Stadium currently sits:

Well I didn't realize you hated your country

You have been dicking around on this soccer thread....yet you have been on the clock for 2 fricking days on the All Time Draft Thread. Make your pick soon, or we will pass you by. A number of people ARE waiting on you to go.

By the way...I understand this win means little in the big picture. It doesn't even qualify them for the World Cup. (North American Pride is all that it is about.)

You must have missed the point in this game where the Jamaican goalie got hit so hard he broke his hand, causing a bone to break through that skin.

And yet most soccer dudes really only suffer from sunburn or jock itch.

One guy broke his hand? Really? Kids do that and more everyday on their bikes.

....and yes I played "soccer" in the football offseason but it was more like full contact football without pads. It was a riot.

And don't even ever try to equate soccer with AMERICAN FOOTBALL especially if your mom won't let you play.

I don't know what in that response is a trolling joke and I'm not sure what is you being serious.

I've had these back and forths with Gipper before though. I assume you're more reasonable, but I know they won't go anywhere.

Actually I rarely miss the point on most things and yes I'm a very reasonable nice guy. ;)

Relax it's going to be a long but fun season.

What is the ultimate effect of winning this tournament....aside from just winning a tournament? No World Cup implications, no Olympics implications...fair to say?

(and hey...at least I have some discussion with you over soccer....you are lucky that Z doesn't delete every single post about soccer)
