Tefler at #1 TE and Tank at the Mike? Color me unofficially surprised...

Also interesting... no "FS" and "SS" designations... just a pair of "S's"...

However, Shon at RT and Des at DT alongside Danny... so all's right with the world.

Yup, Tank is a surprise. As is Telfer at TE, but it's indicative of a running formation (I guess we're gonna call a running play as our 1st play from scrimmage).

Ol' man Des Bryant starts....which means the young guys aren't showing too much. (I've always liked Bryant...I hope he does well)

Bryant was crashing through the middle regularly in the scrimmage. Still got some fight in him thank goodness.

Just for clarification....is the "Will" considered the MLB spot? And the Mike and Sam the OLBs? Given that Kirksey is the Will and Schobert listed as backup at Mike, that is what I surmise.

Will = Weakside = OLB

Mike = Middle = MLB

Sam = Strongside = OLB

At a high level. In a 4-3

Thanks. Then riddle me this: why are we taking what I thought was our best Middle Linebacker...Kirksey....and putting him at an OLB spot, and putting what is essentially a special teams player in Tank Carder and putting him in the middle? And why is Schobert, who I thought was an OLB in the middle?

On the surface, this seems weird. But then, maybe Gregg Williams knows something about these players talents and capabilities that the rest of us do not.

Remember, we're changing from 3-4 to a 4-3.

Kirksey as a 3-4 MLB could be similar to a 4-3 OLB.

Also, our base formation will probably be some form of a 4-2-5, so we'll only have 2 LBs. And they'll most likely be Kirksey and Collins. I think Tank will see the field a lot less. Only in definite run situations.

Wasn't Schobert a MLB at Wisco?

Joe was an OLB at UW... Kirk was OLB at Iowa. We've got a lot of OLBs...

I think we knew we were thin at LB and the deficit would show up in the middle. The 4-2-5 has the potential to mitigate the issue, but the issue still exists.

One thing about Des... he had a year off. He should be fresh and start strong.

At this point Telfer is definitely our "in-line" TE, so maybe we shouldn't be too surprised to see his name.

I felt it was the other way around....that we were heavy in the middle and thin on the outside. Kirksey and Collins have primarily been MLBs....in the NFL...but we are now putting on the outside.

Like I said, we just have to have faith in Williams to put these guys where they can do best. Hopefully it all works out.

I'm cool with punts, not sure I want Peppers returning kicks.

Why? injury risk or decision making on goal line sky kicks? just seems his natural thing to do..

^^here's where I hated losing Greg Robertson(now a Saint BTW)...than Mingo became even more useless..imo always put the leader of your defense at MLB..that's your QB on the defense= MLB-Jamie Collins..Kirksey seemed to come on last season at taking away the TE where Schobert was just to slow & underweight(Mingo)..So many miss communications in coverage last 2 seasons that Gregg Williams probably turned off last seasons game film at first site of falling off body tackling..just another option,I'll take the Gregg Williams playbook
