THE BROWNS BOARD

This coming season is going to ROCK !

I see football as a cross between chess and a jigsaw puzzle.

The games are strategy, and your pieces have to be used correctly.

The Browns have seemed to be lacking chess pieces.

But it's worse than that. It's like a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle.

You have to have all the pieces, they all have to fit somewhere, and

you have to know where each piece goes.

Now, I have tried to help my Wonderful Cute Wife do jigsaw puzzles, and

let me tell ya, I search and search and try all sorts of pieces to try to fit

them somewhere (the border is easier to do first)..

and it takes me 5-10 minutes to find one frickin piece that I can place

correctly. Meanwhile, she scans the spread out bunch of jig saw pieces,

picks one up... and puts it right exactly where it fits into place.

Again and again. I'm always incredulous - "how the heck do you DO that?"

Well, anyways, I think Hue is the perfect coach, as well as the rest of the

coaches, that they can see where all the pieces fit.

For the first time since '99, they see what pieces were missing.

Like wide receivers. So, they did an excellent job in the draft of

working to get the wr pieces on the board. and linebackers...

and fixing the defensive line rotation.

I believe after this last draft, and a few added pieces in FA...

that the pieces seem to be all there.

What's really wild, is that the coaches seem to have the perfect

ability to put them all into place to complete the picture.

And with their experience, their stragtegies will be brilliantly

on point, to maximize the ability to win chess matches throught the season.

It just will have to play out - even great chess masters can lose a game.

and it takes time to put all the jigsaw pieces together to complete the picture.

We don't know what the picture looks like. Playoff picture ? Tough

to expect the first year - but I think fans will see that all the pieces

are there, the chess strategy will be perfect, and the jig saw pieces

will all fit, and make a complete picture.

For too long, the Browns have had jig saw pieces that went to other

puzzles, didn't fit, some pieces were stupidass partiers, didn't care...

oh.... sorry. got off track. lol.

The Browns will finally be a complete picture. That in itself will be

exciting. And even more so, when we see the completed picture exceeds

what we were hoping the picture would be.

Seeing a completed picture is going to ROCK. It's been a long time.

Chess pieces, and jigsaw pieces.

So the season is going to ROCK because of some euphemisms about chess, and jigsaw pieces. That, in conjunction with the fact that the guys seemed to reall gel together when they recently played laser tag and rode go carts.

Here is a line of questions I have for you Calsnots. I can't remember your posts back to the Chris Palmer days, but I do remember your posts through the Butch Davis, Phil Sewage, Crennel, Holmgren days, up till today. You are a bright guy and a good football student, so in those days, without exception, you posted very, very much the identical thing........... the "finally" we have someone who is going to build a foundation... it will take time but we are finally on the right track......

Do you see the dichotomies here?

  • You have posted more than once before that " FINALLY, we are going to do it the right way". This causes you to lose credibility, and basically expose yourself as a regular guy who just wants to enjoy his team and get excited about it. A cool aide drinker. Now, there is nothing at all wrong with that. I love the Browns too, but you see as a poster, you, and many others have given this same rah-rah looking forward more than once in the past. Puzzles and chess, is like a political speaker promising hope and change.
  • If this is so much more on the right track, why did you not blast the regimes of the past, because if I am hearing you right, those guys were wrong and you, seeing how we are on the right track now, should have known we were on the wrong track with those other guys.
Calsnots, buddy, you are not consistent and you are not credible in this post.

Eesh - the kiss of death, Cal.

See, Ghoolie may not know much, but she does know more than anyone about inconsistent posts and how to lack credibility.

Well, it's all going to depend on what your definition of "rocks" is, and just how high expectations are.

If anybody is expecting playoffs, I feel that they'll be disappointed (nothing is impossible, but odds are VERY much against it, lol) My expectations are that we'll be a better coached football team, as evidenced by things like lower penalties, better clock management, closer games, and I think an overall more talented roster. These are just my expectations (hopes), but we'll see how it plays out.

If we're going to win a few more games than the pundits are predicting, then we we'll need many of our young cats to step up, and several other veterans to return to form. In my opinion, our team can win five games and have a solid season. As stupid and crazy as that sounds, I believe it to be true. The season is a success if RG III plays at a level consistent with being an NFL starter. If we finally have our QB, then it's time to start moving forward. Additionally, if we also have our COACH, we can finally start to add other pieces and begin the process of assembling a winner. It's just about impossible to build a winner when you don't have a coach for more than a year or two and you don't have your QB. Not many would argue with that.

Our team could "rock", but it will all depend on what your definition is.

well, I never posted what I posted before this year.

I've hoped in the past, and thought a change was going to be THE change.

but never once have I ever thought we now have the perfect coaches for the

excellent draft at the perfect time.

See, most of us, know that the wr position is one of the weakest in the NFL.

Sure, I'm a positive guy - ya think a new change will finally get weaknesses fixed,

and then they draft guys on football mag ratings and video's alone. Then they

end up with knuckleheads that don't give a crap. end of that - just another

dismal start.

It's one thing to hail changes, and another to see that the last change is

the perfect storm...er....change.

Sure, a lot of us have had our hopes raised, only to witness another draft that

didn't fix the oline in the past, or more recently, didn't dramatically fix the

wr position.

Optimism eventually tends to be the same old storm that floods the town

with water and debris.

Now, you're a smart guy, but your antagonistic posts aren't your best possible

contributions to the board, Ghoolish.

Hue is the perfect coach to come to the Browns. A ton of experience, really upbeat,

tough as nails, funny, knows the division inside and out, has excellent asst coaches

around him..

and bashing him before he has a chance is just not smart.

And this last draft. treadwell is not the wr the Browns needed. They needed an explosive

burner off the los and downfield. You might have had a point if he was the only wr

drafted, but they really grabbed some other wr's that fit what they want to do.

In all your exaltation of yourself, you are making negative opinions that don't seem

to be supported by doing some research on the net first.

Let me give you an example. You go all ghoolish and hatefully claim the Browns didn't

draft a dfference maker star wr.

Do you know that Treadwell, often the #1 rated pick, only runs a 4.65?

Do you know that Barnidge, at TE, ran a 4.65 in his combine?

And, I just read yesterday, that Treadwell looked like he was having a bit of

trouble getting away from coverage.

I'm not dissing Treadwell, but the Browns needed an explosive field stretcher,

and that's exactly what Coleman is.

And your wailing and wailing about Paxton Lynch. Tennessee drafted their star qb,

and they ended up at the #1 slot in the entire draft after his first year.

A star franchise qb has to have a solid, stable offense around him to be

able to step in and run with it.

Enough complaining already. I have hay to cut, a giant garden to weed because

of rototiller problems and a late planting and didnt get the newspaper laid soon

enough, and a drought, and a long list of other stuff going on.

So you just have somebody sing you the "BE PATIENT" song and try to give

Hue a chance, give this draft a chance, to show you the dramatic improvement

I see this first year. I'm always happily optimistic, then it crashes.

This isn't going to be crashing nothin. Instead of thinking we might really

be turning the corner (and crashing)... I know that this coaching staff

will NOT. And this last draft, reflected, FINALLY, an emphasis on also looking

at love for the game, football smarts, toughness, and character.

I think with the criteria used in this last draft, most all the draft failure

picks by the Browns over the years... would never have happened.

and every single time, when a coaching staff has a "system" and tries to

stuff all sorts of round players into square holes, it's failure time.

Hue and company know better. Why not try to stop being so Ghoulsies and

angrily poutsies, and give this perfect storm a chance to come together,

and shock the rest of the division ?

My definition of "rock", means the offense will be explosive, playmaking

ability will drive defenses nuts, playcalling will finally be smart,

and the offense will be all in, and believe in it.

The defense is interesting - the additions aren't as dramatic, maybe,

but the restructuring and smarter calls will make an obvious difference.

Running the dline on and off the field every play, so much of the time,

is the most dumbass thing I've seen. Sure, on paper, some goof could figure

each play, he'll get the best matchups..whatever.

That's in the past. Previous coaching staffs have lost the players' confidence,

due to ineptness, and a couple of players around them that didn't fit, didn't care,

etc.

I'm not claiming the Browns will be in the playoffs - but the dline rotation

is going to be outstanding, the lb's - I won't be surprised if they have fun

playing this defense. This whole Browns team is going to have fun being a

TEAM again.

Remember, Hue knows the weaknesses as well as anybody else in the NFL...

BEFORE he became the head coach of the Browns. Previous Browns coaches didn't

know their OWN weaknesses - look at how they drafted.

trouble is, I think the Browns will be so good, that they may fall out

of the top ten in next year's draft.

Who knows... but this is finally going to be a FUN RIDE.

Never played battleship, so if it based on strategical moves then I couldn't agree more.

True team sport, where everyone has a role on every play.

When kids play football they're playing a mans game.

When men play baseball or basketball, they're playing a kids game.

Well, I suppose it can be strategical.....but they can also be based on luck....like many games:

Hockey a mans game as well.

Soccer is for sissies.

Going back to football, it is the most complex. Involving any more strategies and plays which can be devised.

I'm not sure that baseball or basketball is complicated enough to require players taking home a playbook to study.

Don't think baseball and basketball players are required to take the Wonderlic test either.

You've never played battleship? I just read through the entire Ghoolie v Flugel thread and this is by far the craziest thing I've read today.
