I was just discussing this last night with several friends because one of those memorials on the Capital grounds is for Terry's Texas Rangers, a Civil War regiment of the 8th Texas Cavalry raised up in Austin. My great, great uncle was a member, the one shot & left for dead at Shiloh in Tenn. The consensus was that we hoped instead of protests / counter-protests, they would form a commission that would include historians as well as community leaders to decide upon disposition of individual memorials, whether to remove some altogether, leave some in place or find homes in history Museums. But now I read this I can see it's just going to be politicized and everyone loses. Too bad.
