THE BROWNS BOARD

Cleveland vs. "Golden State"

Here is the postseason history between teams from Cleveland and teams from "Golden State"....which I interpret to mean the entire Bay area. Its very limited:

1949 Cleveland Browns defeat San Francisco 49ers in the AAFC Championship game.

1980 Cleveland Browns lose to Oakland Raiders in AFC division game....aka the "Red Right 88" game.

Notes:

A. The game wherein the Browns played the Raiders in 1982 was against the "Los Angeles Raiders" not the Oakland Raiders.

B. The Indians have never played the Oakland As (nor the KC As or Philadelphia As before that) in postseason play.

They did play "The Giants" in the 1954 World Series...but that was when they were still in New York.

C. Since the Cavs existed the Warriors have been in the Bay area....and the only way they could have played in postseason is in the NBA Finals, and of course that has never happened.

D. Warriors were in Philadelphia from 1947 to 1962 when they moved to San Francisco area. They were the very first NBA Champions in 1947 in Philly. They also won another title there in 1956. They won the 1975 Championship as the Golden State Warriors.

E. Interestingly.....the only franchises still in existance from that inaugural 1947 season are The Warriors and the Knicks. (and the Knicks are the only team still in the same city). The Boston Celtics did not join the NBA until the 1948 season.

Erving will play his ass off and we steal one in G.S. Postgame-- We sit Deli on Moz's lap and Kyrie on LBJ's lap and tell the media all about it.. Go Cavs..

This is on a Cleveland Browns forum why??

Because it is a recounting of the postseason interaction between Cleveland (NEOhio) teams and the Bay area's teams. And until this moment....such a thing has never happened unless the Cleveland Browns have been involved. Did you read the original post?

It should be a very interesting series. I think GS has the edge but if LeBron can pull this off without Love and a hobbled Irving, well his legacy will be right up there with Jordan.

With that said, I just don't see how the Cavs can pull it off. They are going to have to complete dominate the boards, have a very large edge in the turnover battle, LeBron is gonna need to re-find his shot, Curry needs to hit a slump, and Thompson needs to stay in his funk.

I'd love to see Cleveland win but it's going to be incredibly tough.

OK, I guess I need to be educated on how Golden State is "so much more talented" than the Cavaliers. Let's look at the positions in terms of #1 guy, #2 guy etc.

Cavs #1 guy vs. Warriors #1 guy: LeBron James vs. Dell Curry. As great as Curry is...his "star power" is matched up against the greatest overall player to ever play the game.

Cavs #2 guy vs. Warriors #2 guy: Kyrie Irving vs. Klay Thompson. While both are quality players, does anyone think that Klay is better than Kyrie when both are fit? (and does anyone think that Kyrie may be playing a little possum with his injuries?)

Cavs Center vs. Warriors Center. Mozgov vs. Bogut. I see this fairly much as a wash.

Cavs #4 vs. Warriors #4: Tristan Thompson vs. Draymond Green. Both really good players....but does anyone think that TT really takes a major back seat to Green? I do not...at all

Cavs #5 guy vs. Warriors #5 guy: Iman Shumpert vs. Harrison Barnes. Barnes has more publicity coming out of NC.....but is he truly that much better of a player than Shump? If so, his edge imo is very slight.

Perhaps the Warriors do have the better/deeper bench:

Dellevedova/JR Smith/James Jones/Sean Marion/Mike Miller vs.

Iguadola/Shaun Livingston/Leandro Barbosa/Festus Izili/Mareese Speights/David Lee

For this series that may help them

(but note....imagine the differences if the Cavs had both Kevin Love and Anderson Varajao healthy)

It sucks for Cleveland that these two guys are out

In their places we have Kendrick Perkins and Brendan Haywood....who honestly, should have been more productive than they have been for such big men.

Kyrie even playing at the level he did makes this series very even-if he's hobbled bad it's over. It's very evenly matched at most positions, if JR smith gets his head out of his ass for game 2 I think they win.

Cavs need Delly to roll block someone.
