Day 2

Ed Reynolds got a lot of work at FS and reportedly looked good.

Garrett was "sore" and spent the day on a bike. Other Browns on Bikes:

  • WR Kenny Britt,
  • LT Joe Thomas,
  • SS Jabrill Peppers,
  • LG Joel Bitonio,
  • RG John Greco

Corey Coleman landed on the ball and spent a couple minutes laying on the ground... wind knocked out.

Anthony Munoz (OT GOAT) was a "Guest Coach" for the day.

Whats wrong with Britt?......injured or just old?.......

Did Coleman get up and keep practicing?......or is he now "nursing" another one?

Dwayne Bowe Part Deaux!

Waaaaaay too early for Bowe comparisons...

Get back to me when he's a healthy scratch...

Well.....only too early to compare production....

But, from the onset of his signing, there are many comparables......same age.....same experience....same # of seasons.....same ridiculously high contract(with way less production, btw).....same character questions.....and, now, same start at camp......so far....

Ima guess Britt will be better, simply because this coach will let him play.....

Is Cruz healthy? I mean, fully recovered healthy? Did not look it last season... and his stats don't say he was either. Lowest catch % in his career.

Cleveland Browns have Terry Talkin'... impressions from OTAs -- Terry Pluto (photos)

ABOUT THE BROWNS

The Browns opened practice to the media on Wednesday. These are OTAs ... Organized Team Activities. There are lots of limits. No one is tackling. Players are in helmets, but not full football gear. So it's hard to judge linemen -- offense and defense.

The running game and tackling skills also are hard to figure out because it's not the type of football seen on Sundays.

But here are some thoughts. Remember, it comes from only one day of practice. Myles Garrett, Jabrill Peppers and Kenny Britt were out with minor injuries.

1. Cody Kessler didn't throw many long passes. Jackson praised Kessler for having "more zip" on the ball. It did appear he had more velocity than a year ago on some short and medium throws.

2. As usual, Kessler was very accurate. He also is ahead of the other quarterbacks because he knows the offense.

3. Osweiler was the No. 2 quarterback. He is all of 6-foot-7. He made 6-foot-4 rookie DeShone Kizer look short. And both of those guys made the 6-foot-1 Kessler look small. Size helps, but it's not everything or 6-foot-6 Derek Anderson would be all-pro.

4. Osweiler connected with Corey Coleman on a long pass. He threw a ball behind a receiver, it was tipped and intercepted. All the quarterbacks had iffy moments.

5. So far, so good with Shon Coleman at right tackle. He is being given the first shot at the job. Cameron Erving is behind him. Joe Thomas has been very complimentary of Coleman.

6. I thought Spencer Drango would be in the mix for right tackle, but he's playing a lot of guard. The reason could be Joel Bitonio still recovering from foot surgery. He is not taking part in full practice. So Pro Bowler Kevin Zeitler and Drango are the starting guards now.

7. I'm not going to spend a lot of time analyzing a few throws made by Kizer at the one open practice this week. He's an impressive physical specimen. He has a strong arm. He made a few excellent throws and a few "What is he doing???" heaves.

8. Remember, Kizer never worked out of a huddle or took snaps under center in college. He rarely even varied the snap count. It was all very basic, and very unlike life for an NFL quarterback.

9. Rashard Higgins made a very nice catch on a long throw to the back shoulder by Kizer. Good play on both sides. Higgins was my pick last season to be a good receiver, but he didn't show much. He caught only six passes. I still think he can help the Browns.

10. Rookie Matthew Dayes caught a couple of long passes. The running back from North Carolina State was considered a good pass catcher in college and it shows.

After missing a full season and a half, his numbers werent terrible.....considering his targets were almost cut in half......could be he needs more opportunities..............or...........could be he aint gettin open......dunno

If he's affordable, I give him a shot him over any number of our 6 to 8 guys who've never done a dang thang in an NFL uni......

No, no.. keep Cruz away from our WR group. This will be easy because Cruz signed with Chicago.

Cruz tore his patella tendon and only one WR [Robert Brooks] and one other player [Jimmy Graham] have ever been productive after that injury. Last year he really struggled to get open even after injury was cleared up, that's why his stats were down.
