Josh Gordon's reported eight-game suspension shows NFL still tone deaf

(UPDATE: The Plain Dealer reported Friday afternoon that Gordon's suspension will actually be for 10 games because of the stage of the program he was in, because a fourth violation triggers a 10-game suspension.)

Does this make any sense to you at all?

Recently, 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith got a nine-game suspension. He was given that punishment because he had a DUI, weapons charges and made a bomb threat at the Los Angeles airport in separate incidents. And he got roughly the same suspension as Gordon.

The problem is that the NFL has become the NCAA, where punishment generally serves no purpose and follows no logic. The NFL could have easily reduced Gordon's suspension to a game or two, and it would have been fair and nobody would have argued. It would have been a positive gesture to a 23-year-old man who seems serious about getting his life on track.

hate to say it, but lets not forget he will be going to court on his DUI, prior to being reinstated.....which will be his 5th violation....

Honestly, we probably can't count on this guy playing for a long long time.....hell, with the new policy in place, the 5th vio could be another whole season for all we know.....

So what's the new threshold for a "failed" test?

If it's 150 instead of 15 like was being said, why is he being suspended at all?

And if he is being suspended because he failed the test before it was changed, then why was the sentence reduced?

How did they get 10 games as the number they went with?

Seems like they took some from column A and some from column B....

This is such bullshit that I can't barely stand it. I fucking HATE the NFL and their bullshit rules. They are fucking up the game of FOOTBALL. Gordon shouldn't be suspended AT ALL. Their fucking test was flawed. One sample passed and the other failed and because some dipshit lab-monkey labeled one sample A and the other one B and not the other way around, and now we are forced to be without our STAR WR for almost an entire fucking year.

The NFL needs to pull their brain-dead, inconsistent, non-coherent, vomit inducing fucking head out of it's conglomerated asshole and fix this fuckup. #FreeFuckingJoshGordonNOWuPussyPiecesofShit.

There's always hope.

And voodoo...

Wishful thinking that I'd like to subscribe too.

Steeler looked awful versus Ravens, so that somewhat diminishes the performance we had against them the 2nd half last week.

Defense was below par last year, and last week I still saw a lot of concerns = definitely not as hyped.

I fear Bree's is going to light us up, would love to wrong but seeing the Saints start out as 0 - 2 is a long shot to me.

Been a while since I've seen the Browns even at 1 -1 , so sadly my expectation is 0 - 2 :(

No. That's never been the case. DUI arrest will be placed under "Personal Conduct Policy" and will bring a 2-game suspension...

Yes.It is and has been. Read the policy. (apparently no one here has).......Page 20 - Section III - Paragraph B.....

""Absent aggravating circumstances, discipline for a first offense will generally be
(Now, a 2 game suspension) If the Commissioner finds that there were
aggravating circumstances, including but not limited to felonious conduct or serious
injury or death of third parties, and/or if the player has had prior drug or alcohol-related
misconduct, increased discipline up to and including suspension may be imposed. 21 (2010)
Discipline for a second or subsequent offense is likely to be a suspension, the duration of
which may escalate for repeat offenses.
Above is the policy. Read the red parts. It CLEARLY says that players with drugs issues will face increased penalties which will escalate for repeat offenders.....
Hey, I want him to play as much as the next guy....but a whole year of speculation and crying about the rules could be averted if people just tried to understand the policy and had realistic expectations for a guy thats put himself in a bunch of situations.....
And, for those that dont know.....once you're at JG's level....you stay there for your whole career.....he will be 1 infraction away from a ban forEVER!!

How many cars has Josh Gordon sold, because if the NFL and NFLPA have their way, that's his new career.

If the new drug policy is retroactive, then JG did not fail test "A", he's not suspended; and not on the verge of a career ending expulsion.

Who the fuck is standing on his side. The Browns? No, you have Jimmy Haslam, an outright criminal, who buys his freedom for $92 million; but his influence stops there, because he is one selfish asshole. If he'll let 10 of his business associates fry with a Grand Jury, you think he cares about JG?

And the NFLPA? Where have they been on many issues? Did it take Welker to wake them up; certainly not Ray Rice. They have always been a bunch of self-serving assholes. When you re-negotiate with a MOA, how do you leave JG out of a full retribution. With union friends like these, who needs anymore enemies. But JG has them, and the biggest is the NFL and that lying, preppy Goodell. Where's the outrage? This week the NFL is at its most vulnerable state, and the whole Browns organization needs to stand as one. But they won't, and it's Haslam that will continue to rot it out from the inside. He can't be trusted, but you know he and Roger are thick as thieves. This all sucks in so many disgusting ways.

I guess that leaves us voodoo then.

We could sacrifice a chicken? Does it count the same if you choke your chicken?

Seriously though, maybe it was a half game wake up call in that first half last week. I don't think you really know what kinda team you got until at least a few games into the season.

Kinda makes this 10 game suspension even crazier. In 10 weeks we're gonna have a real good idea what this team'll be like, and then we're gonna add a guy who hasn't even practiced with them in 3 months?

So what about his DUI? Guess you forgot that.

Now how could I forget that when there are so many around here that seem to take a warped sense of pleasure of piling on this misguided, dangerous derelict who some of his few friends know as Josh. Yes, this all plays out for the NFL. When the 10 games are up, the November DWI hearing in North Carolina will end up decreeing another two games for Josh, (as he was .09 as opposed to the acceptable .08). And those really should be the only two games he misses. But Welker and Hardy and McDonald are back in uniform. JG needs Rusty Hardin, who will get the newest sicko, AP off the hook. You think it was just a spanking with a stick, read this:

http://houston.cbslocal.com/2014/09/12/exclusive-details-on-adrian-peterson-indictment-charges/

So no, I'm not forgetting anything, including the fact the AP's two-year old son, back in 2013 was beaten to death by another man. Compared to AP, Rice, Hardy, et al, Josh kind of appears angelic.
