I mean, if they basically picked a name at random, then sure. If they decided that the gay friend was most likely to be shot at, you could understand that. And I understand that many franchise characters get updated as years go by. I mean even when Mickey Spillane was still living Mike Hammer quit drinking hard liquor and smoking. I really had no idea what have been going on with the RG series for the last few years so maybe they went really socially progressive. I feel bad that apparently something came between Archie and Jughead Jones who has been his best friend for the last 75 years. I can see the intent, it seems to be a 'hey, we're accepting of this kind of stuff' move, but for my money, going out and shouting about how accepting you are isn't really necessary.
