calfoxwc
What with talk about not supporting Israel anymore, I figured this would be doubly popular. *************************************** Mat Staver, Chairman Liberty Counsel7/12/2014 The escalation of violence in the Middle East has reached uniquely dangerous levels. Rockets are regularly being fired into southern Israel by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza, while attacks are now being launched into northern Israel from Lebanon.Incredibly, the Obama administration has chosen to continue funding the Palestinian Authority "unity" government, now joined to Hamas, contrary to the counsel of Members of Congress and contemptuous toward the Israeli government. I believe we are now AIDING and ABETTING Israel's sworn enemies – and breaking U.S. policy in the process. We are delivering our "Defund the Palestinian Authority" petitions to key leaders of Congress on Monday. I want to be sure that your name is added to this petition in time for this important delivery. If you haven't already signed, please add your name by 9:00a.m. EDST on Monday to be included. Click here to sign:http://www.libertyaction.org/201163/petition.aspPlease see my important update below – Mat. Over the past several days, Palestinian and Hamas militants have launched over 550 rockets into southern Israel, with hundreds flying into Israel in the past 48 hours. The targets have included an Israeli nuclear power plant, which would have been catastrophic if the missile had gotten through. Israel's “Iron Dome" defense system has intercepted a majority of the missiles. The Israelis are retaliating with massive force, launching over 1,100 retaliation strikes. The escalation of terrorism against Israel comes just weeks after the newly-formed Palestinian Authority (P.A.) announced a “unity" government with Hamas, a designated Terrorist Organization whose charter calls for the annihilation of Israel. + + President Obama is again encouraging the enemies of Israel by appeasing those sworn to destroy the Jewish state. The Obama administration announced that it will recognize the new P.A. government with its terrorist affiliation – contrary to U.S. policy against funding Hamas and other terrorist organizations! $500 million of our taxpayer dollars will continue to aid the Palestinians while our Campaigner-in-Chief watches to see what will happen with the new Hamas-infused government. + + Liberty Counsel is calling on the Obama administration and the United States Congress to reject the newly-formed Palestinian Authority andimmediately cease funding of the organization. The rule of law is clear: Hamas is a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization. The United States cannot fund Hamas. It's plain and simple. Apparently, President Obama has deemed that this is yet another law by which he will not abide. This is an urgent matter that requires our immediate attention. Please take one minute and sign our petition calling for Congress and the Obama administration to reject the newly-formed Palestinian Authority "unity" government and immediately cease funding of that organization. Click here to sign:http://www.libertyaction.org/201163/petition.asp+ + Bipartisan Members of Congress are calling for the defunding of the P.A. In an open letter to President Obama, Senators Benjamin Cardin (D-MD) and Susan Collins (R-ME) say they are “gravely concerned" about the newly formed government's effect on any hope for peace – and the fact that the Obama administration is breaking established policy. Senator Rand Paul also called on the Senate to defund the Palestinians... "I call for all aid to the Palestinian Authority –every penny – to be cut off. Not one more U.S. taxpayer dollar should flow to Hamas or to the Palestinian Authority as long as it is allied with Hamas." Representative Nita Lowey (D-NY), the top Democrat on the US House of Representatives Appropriations Committee, said the only thing that would stop her from taking steps to defund the Palestinian Authority would be if its president, Mahmoud Abbas, were to reverse course on the agreement he signed Wednesday with Hamas. "At this point the law is clear, their actions are clear and the path forward is clear," she said. "Hamas is a US-designated terrorist group, and it would be illegal for US funds to reach it."There is now a growing list of influential congressional leaders calling for the Obama administration to denounce the newly formed P.A. and for the United States to cease funding of the Palestinian AuthorityIn light of the week's troublesome events, we are calling on Congress to immediately cease P.A. funding!asdf, we cannot allow the Obama administration to once again circumvent the rule of law. I believe when all is said and done, we will have bipartisan congressional support on this initiative. Please join us today and sign the LC petition calling for Congress to reject the newly formed Palestinian Authority, which is now aligned with a dangerous terrorist organization, and immediately cease U.S. funding:http://www.libertyaction.org/201163/petition.aspGod bless you for standing with Israel – and opposing the misguided decisions of the Obama administration.Mat Staver, Founder and ChairmanLiberty CounselP.S. The rocket attacks once again prove that the enemies of Israel are emboldened by the Obama administrations' incoherent foreign policies, which place the Jewish state in ever greater peril.I believe the Palestinian Authority “unity" government will continue to threaten Israel and could destabilize the entire region. The Obama administration and the United States Congress must reject this newly formed government and immediately cease funding a misguided policy of "bribery for peace."Click here to add your name to this important petition which will be delivered on Monday to key Members of Congress:http://www.libertyaction.org/201163/petition.asp
LogicIsForSquares
I don't want us funding either side. Israel is more than capable of funding the IDF. I would definitely be for our military selling Israel arms at a discount given our history. However, we should not give them aid with no strings attached. Westside Steve
There are, I assume, plenty of strings attached if for no other reason than Israel is the closest thing we have to a Western ally in the Middle East. Strings should not include turning the other cheek and allowing themselves to be overrun or destroyed. WSS
LogicIsForSquares
What strings? Just curious. We had better get our money back. We are broke but keep picking up the tab for other countries. Any aid should be given only as a loan that is expected to be paid back shortly.
sadbrownsfan
Like almost anywhere in the middle east we are funding both sides either directly or indirectly. Israel we have been funding since they where founded both militarily and economically, Palestine since the mid 90's economically(though its likely they use the funds for other purposes). Currently it averages about $10million a day to Israel(almost all military) and about $1.2million a day to Palestine(all for "non-lethal" funds). http://www.ifamericansknew.org/stat/usaid.html#pal Found this interesting its a bit old but in 2003 the Israel\Palestine conflict has cost us an estimated $3 trillion(not sure what it has cost us over a decade later)http://www.ifamericansknew.org/stat/stauffer.html
