Browns149
I was watching it on TV and the judge took an hour to announce his verdict. He went into great detail on why he was making his verdict. Very riveting stuff

LogicIsForSquares
I had never even heard of this case until today. Moral of the story, pull over immediately and don't give cops the idea that you may be a danger to the general public or to the police.

LogicIsForSquares
So the Cleveland cops fired 137 shots at two unarmed suspects? Who were fleeing through residential areas in excess of 100 mph. That is the key thing.
MLD Woody
Who were fleeing through residential areas in excess of 100 mph. That is the key thing. I read something that said the cop in question stood on the hood and fired like 15 more shots into the windshield.... Shit. I understand the use of deadly force to prevent anyone else from getting hurt, but 137 shots seems excessive and inefficient.

Clevfan4life
case makes no sense to me. Supposedly their car backfired and that's why the chase started because the cops thought they shot out of their car or something? Still haven't heard why these two got in the chase to begin with when they had no drugs on em, no warrants and weren't armed. I don't understand. I also don't understand why the police who had the car surrounded at the end didn't stand off. What prompted the barrage of bullets at the end? Just because of the chase? That's not legal. Plenty of chases end with the perps being pulled out of the car. In any case, good on Cleveland for not going apeshit.

LogicIsForSquares
so where they somewhere they shouldn't have been per their parole regulations? No clue. Felons with long criminal histories have a demonstrated lack of good decision making. They could have panicked for no reason.
gftChris
This actually made the news over here, believe it or not. Hadn't heard about it until then. I don't get why the police fired so many shots, including the guy standing on the bonnet firing shots through the windscreen - presumably, had they a gun, the policeman would have been in some danger, unless the suspects were already dead or incapacitated, in which case there's no need. I don't get why the suspects decided that it was a good idea to try to flee when the police tried to pull them over, thought they could outrun the police in a presumably shitty car (if it's backfiring) - does Cleveland PD have a support helicopter for these things? I know we do over here but we're a lot less spread out, so it requires fewer to cover the same amount of people. You just can't outrun those things.
