Terrell Davis: The Big Pussy

Lets face it...TD was a good player but not a great player. Ya he played on some good teams and had an amazing season but he doesn't deserve the gold jacket.

After years of having other HOFers advocate for his induction he finally gets in. He does nothing but cut down players and teams so..pay backs a bitch.

Actually until his first knee injury he averaged 1900 yds per year and is the Broncos all-time leading rusher. Pro bowl 3 of those 4 seasons. Injuries kept him from being one of the best ever in what amounted to a 4 year career. Not bad for a 6th rounder.

So...is Chris Johnson HOF material? Same difference other than the ring but minus the o line.

I truely admire his path....but there are othere deserving RB's that can be or should be as well.

The guy was a very good back. Great? You can debate that one until your balls fall off. I am looking forward to football. I really couldn't care less aboud this HOF shit. Some players belong, some are iffy, some don't belong. C'mon guys, you know this shit is largely political and a lot of times a matter of "who you know" or a matter of does the story behind the guy enhance the NFL patting themselves on the back.

I will say this, and as much as it irritates the purist fan, A SB ring, SB MVP, SB accolades will, without fail propel a player far above better players who never got those accolades and trophies.

Music is the same way. Clapton, a great songwriter, performer and singer, is at best, a modest and very average guitar player. Yet, I guarantee you a bunch of people (mostly with no musical training) are going to jump in and say what a great guitarist he is. But he isn't. His shit is simple. Doesn't matter, he had a boost from the very beginning because of who he played with and when he played. Again, HOF performer, songwriter? No debate.

Guitar wizard? Fuck, man, he can't play. Steve Lukather? Now THAT is a bad, bad motherfucker. Can play better than Clapton using his nutsack.........but it doesn't matter. Some jackoffs believe the hype.

Terrell Davis? If he played the guitar he would be Clapton or BB King.

Django, Atkins, Tedesco, Knoppfler, Jerry Reed, Hellecasters, Vai, Satriani, Van Halen, Joe Pass, Pizzarelli, Travis....NOW you are talking guitar.

But can they carry the football without fumbling it?

Not every pick is a slam dunk HOF winner, just wait until 2018. When you're up might be more important than your talent in some cases.

Clapton is a really good guitar player. (he's not a shit guitar player) - Is he Jeff Beck good? No.

He plays a nice slide guitar. Is he Sonny Landreth good? No.

He's a good singer. Is he Roy Orbison good? No.

He's a good songwriter.

Wrap that all together and he's HOF material all day long.

------------I just put my guitar down after an hour and a half of practice. gotta show on the 20th-------

oh...umm...football....

Terrell Davis was good. He stepped into a situation where any back they put back there did tremendously. He was real good but I don't think he meets what should be HOF longevity in the league.

And I don't think not winning a super bowl should make a great QB any less great. Unless it's actually the QB's fault that he didn't win any super bowls....but then he probably wouldn't be all that good if that were the case.

Same for say.....a left tackle. Joe Thomas is one of the great ones. It's not HIS fault that he plays for a bum team. (unless you call loyalty a fault)

Now, our Ghoul hates Joe Thomas. But that's because he's blinded by the idea that we should've taken the fumbling, child-beater instead of JT.

Davis isn't a HOF back, he has less than 8k career yards and is behind the like of Thomas Jones and Freeman McNeil, all good quality players, none are HOF worthy. With the HOF now stating they will induct 8 people or whatever every year they are bound to let in marginal candidates. Davis had a very good 4 yr stretch but I think it had as more to do with the Broncos scheme and Elway at QB than Davis. The Broncos got 1100 yds out of Olandis Gary and 1400 out of Mike Anderson in replacing TD, so I don't hold much stock in TD being HOF back when replacement level players are having career seasons in the same offense.

Ya it was the scheme.

And 37 year old Elway.

And guys that got half the yards and no rings behind the same line.

It is not the Hall of Longevity, it is is the hall of fame, if you can bring 2k and a ring, please enlighten us.

First football, then guitar. That SB crap is why all them thar Steelers are in the HOF. I freaking guarantee you if Clay Matthews had played in Shitsburgh- he'd have been in- long ago.

And regarding guitar you forgot my left handed Idol Tom. Jimi H. Sloppy? Sure. Incredible reach, lightning fast, master of electronic shit. No one even attempted to cover his stuff in public until Stevie Ray Vaughn came along.

Its also not he hall of I had one kick ass year. The Broncos RBs were interchangeable parts, TDs yr he got 2008 yds was a great yr no doubt. But they gave him the ball a ton that year. Here are comparable backs in the Broncos system under Shanahan starting with that 2008 yd season.

1998 Terrell Davis 2008 yds 5.1 avg -> Career best yr

1999 Olandis Gary 1159 yds 4.2 avg -> Career best yr

2000 Mike Anderson 1487 yds 5.0 avg -> Career best yr

2001 Terrell Davis 701 in 8 games 4.2 avg

Mike Anderson 678 in 7 games 3.9 avg

2002 Clinton Portis 1508 yd 5.5 avg

2003 Clinton Portis 1591 yd 5.5 avg -> Career best yr

2004 Reuben Droughns 1240 yd 4.5 avg -> Career best yr

2005 Mike Anderson 1014 yd 4.2 avg

Tatum Bell 921 5.3 avg

Looks like to me it had a lot to do with the system, any guy you stuck in there had a career yr and some had better yrs on their avg per carry than did TD did in his 2008 season. So yes, scheme had a lot do with, sure TD may have been the best of that lot, that doesn't make him a HOF.

Prince is the most overhyped guitarist ever,, comparing him to greats like Allen Holdsworth or Al DiMeola is comical in everysense of the word.

Then you never heard of Frank Marino.. who covered Hendrix long before Stevie Ray did.

I agree completely. The vast majority of his songs are complete shit that don't stand up.. you don't listen to him while driving. People have to be remembering some positive thing that happened in their past while they listened to it and the memory just gets further idolized with age.. Or cocaine, one of the two.

As a performer? Sure, Prince is great on stage.. but as a songwriter, he's right there with the awfulness known as Lou Reed.

Meanwhile back at the HoF... the football HoF...

Total yards... Rushing alone he averaged ~1600 yd/yr his first four years missing 3 games in that time... so he averaged over 100 ypg. That's rarefied air there...

If you penalize Davis for a short career due to injury, then there are other players whose busts need to be removed from the Hall... starting with Gale Sayers.

And that extra 300 yds receiving per year just adds extra skill many RB's don't have.

So is Chris Johnson a HOFer?

Good question... certainly was building a resume his first 6 years. And he surprised when he stepped into his more recent AZ opportunity. If he gets another shot and cashes it...

What does it take in this modern, passing era for a RB to make the Hall? Who are the no-brainers of today not named AP?
