THE BROWNS BOARD

we literally may be the worst in the nfl by position.....

at qb, wr, and tight end this year. I don't mean combined(that's sort of a given). I mean individually. For EVERY ONE of those positions.

Cant link the story, but over on nfl.com there is an article on weakest offensive position groups. We 'win' at qb(over the bills and jets) and are among a couple of runners up at both wide receiver and tight end(to the chiefs and cardinals). And even this is questionable, because as bad as the chiefs wideout group as a whole is at least they have maclin instead of bowe(clear advantage to them).

But jesus....how does this happen? There are 32 teams in the league, and we are either the worst or one of the three worst at all three of these positions. In a passing league where the qb and making big plays through the air is what wins.

there is a BIG difference between slightly below average at a position and WORST in the nfl. I suppose one could bicker as to whether we are 30, 31, or 32 at any of these, but good gosh that's still horrific.

The scary thing is that as bad as Mccown was for tampa last year he could even manage to be less explosive for us this year. You know their fairly talented receiving corp probably made him look better than he was at times. If he is damn near the worst qb in the nfl with a couple of big strong big play guys occasionally busting a big one, what the hell will he be like with the WORST receiving corps in football?

Ive given up hope on being good or even average at qb and wide receiver. Hell Ive even given up hope on being 'simply bad'. I'll just settle for the 22nd-27th range at this point as opposed to 32nd out of 32nd.

Here's a tissue so you can wipe your tears. Go "root" for another team and the rest of us will root on our crappy team while they compete for a playoff spot.

I certainly hope they compete for a playoff spot. If they do, that means they will have been really excellent in other areas to compensate for just how bad we are in these areas I mentioned. It is very possible, for example, that Gilbert really comes on and we have a truly GREAT pass defense to actually compensate somewhat for how historically bad we are at moving the ball through the air on offense.

... as are our TEs... Just not flashy... or if you prefer, shiny...

Taco,

For the 6 years from 2008 thru 2013 we were 4-12 half of the time and 5-11 the other half. There are a lot of ways to build a team and in that stretch we tried a lot of them.

Now we're building a ball-control, low-risk Offense to complement what I'm guessing you noticed is a damn good Defense.

That means a strong O-line and good set of RBs. Add a PAP QB and a set of possession WRs and wha-laa... a "disappointing" 7-9.

As we move forward other pieces will be added. We were only a couple of drinks on a charter flight away from having a WR weapon. Hell even our QB in waiting started to look like a QB worth waiting for. We may have even fallen into a UDFA TE.

I love the smell of progress in the morning... It smells like... well... progress.

Cause you know only victory smells like victory...

i'm for one quite pleased by what i'm seeing out of Benjamin and Hartline so far. Barnidge and Dray look really good too, almost Jordan Cameron good but a little more stout. It all falls on McCown, but i'm also pleasantly surprised by how mobile and nimble that fucker is. He has to slide obviously, i will throw something at the screen if I see him taking shots like that during the season that aren't in potentially game winnign situations. But still, dude is kind of looking solid. He might be one of the smartest if not the smartest qb we've had since the team came back.

Someone's in mid-season form...

I'm not arguing with you about this. If we reach 8 wins this year consider it superbowl celebration worthy. If we win, the scores will be 13-6 type games.

I hope our passing game resembles something of this century but something tells me that is wishful thinking. Our QB of the future will be sitting in next year's draft. These words are trustworthy and true.

i think i predicted 8-8 or 9-7....

tougher schedule. if we get to 9-7 hopefully it's enough to eek out a playoff berth and that is SURELY nothing to dismiss as luck or lack of growth, just the opposite. you are prob right about our qb of the future. after building the lines and the defense i believe it will be time to go offensive playmakers while still adding depth to our lines.

To say that "the coaches know it's a throw away year" tells me that Debbie hasn't played an organized sport past T-ball, much less coached a sport at any level. Our coaches are busting their asses with long days, and they're agonizing over every cut they have to make. They feed and shelter their families being a coach in a win now business, and they all know they'll all be gone if they don't win.......... and yet you think they're all just sitting around talking about 2-3 years from now?? Fucking ridiculous.

I've read some pretty stupid things on this forum - quite a few from Debbie herself - but this one takes the cake. There isn't a member of the Browns organization that isn't giving their all to win, and to win now.

You make the statement that we may be the worst at these various skill positions.......now back it up.

Give your ranking of all 32 teams at the Skill positions....

Who has the best QB corps?

Who has the best WR corps?

Who has the best TE corps?

Who has the best RB corps?

If not this, but if you think the Browns are so low on the end of these rankings.....who do you think they are in competition with for the title of "The worst" of all these.

QB - Packers Aaron Rodgers nuff said

RB - Vikings Peterson is the best back and McKinnon is an intriguing guy, Asiata is servicable

WR - Gotta go with the Giants if were looking at depth. ODB, Cruz, Randle and James Jones. If were just looking at top 2, Id take the Lions with Calvin and Golden.

TE - Patriots. Gronk is the best TE to ever play, and they have decent depth with Chandler and Hoomanawanuwi
