Question for all of you. Are any of you planning to attend open practices before the pre-season gets started?

It would be nice to get reports back on whether we are seeing more of the 4-3 like most of us feel fits best for our current players.

Check out the SS & FS plan. 8 man battle, maybe we don't miss Whitner? Last depth chart I got was FS-Poyer,R.Moore,Don Jones,E. Patterson & AJ Stamps..SS-Campbell, Tim Scott & D. Kindred..I like tall trees that lay some wood..

My guess it's Campbell at SS, with an open battle between Poyer and Moore at FS.

My money is on Poyer...

Right....Id say, now more than ever, we have personnel that best fits a 4-3......we have a ton of 4-3 DE's we are trying to morph into OLB's.....and we have a wealth of interior DT's, we are using as DE's and we have a shortage of versatile LB's, which we are spinning our wheels on with guys like Kruger, Bryant & Mingo.....so, why force ALL these guys to play out of position????......

Id use a 4 man front, something like.........A. Bryant...Shelton...Meder...ogbah.....backed by Kirksey...Davis and Orchard......

And back them up with a rotation of...........Nassib....Hughes...Cooper...Kruger....backed by Schobert..Wright....Mingo.....

Might as well sprinkle in some 5-2 sets while we're at it...

Also known as.. every play that A.Bryant and Mingo are the ends of the line..

Saying "This DE goes to 11, see, and so I shall call him Rover" doesn't make it not a 5-2..

You've got to wonder how you could have 5-2 personnel on the field and still not shut down the run. Oh Cleveland.

Oh. Oh. Harvard guys got a eye on a Dukie..Don't mind this addition at all with Devalve questionable. With coach David Cutcliff at Duke, you don't block, you don't play. This is another good move along with Nick Hayden..

Don't be stupid. Defensive Ends rush the passer. It is a primary requirement of the position.

If you are a fucking defensive end you rush the fucking passer. What is it about that YOU don't fucking understand?

I don't care if it is a fucking 4-3 or a 3-4....that is what DEs do. I have known this since like 1960. Do you not yet know this simple fact about football?

Do OLBs ALSO have responsibility to rush the passer? Certainly.

But look at this list of the 25 career leaders in sacks.

So, tell me again how it is that you have rewritten the history of football by putting primary emphasis for pass rushing on LBs and not on DEs?

This might be somewhat relevant considering where Ray Horton got most of his training and ideologies as a coach under Dick LeBeau - how many 5 techniques from Pittsburgh made that list? Not even Brett Keisel? Doesn't surprise me. When LeBeau was there - the OLBs like James Harrison, LaMarr Woodley, Joey Porter, Jason Gildon, Kevin Greene, Greg Lloyd, Chad Brown usually were the designated pass rushers. Sometimes the 5 techniques would get a nice little biscuit upfield if Pittsburgh slanted to the wide side of the field or strength of formation.

Last time here, Horton said he wanted to use hybrid fronts but an injury volume up front had him using 3 man fronts most of the time while kicking Taylor and Rubin out of inside comfort zones to 5 techniques neither seemed well wired for. This time, our personnel seems best suited for 4 man fronts especially with our best 5 technique out for the year. It'll be interesting to see what he does with our Defense.
