THE BROWNS BOARD

the torture report

I would imagine that most of you know that waterboarding a high profile terrorist in order to get information that saves American lives doesn't bother me very much.

But to keep this campaign issue alive over 3 guys for this many years is really ridiculous. Especially when the White House demands "no names please" rule to keep their own guys out of the sauce.

Link to the report- http://www.intelligence.senate.gov/study2014/sscistudy1.pdf

TL;DR version

it was not effective, more intelligence(and more reliable) was gathered without torture

the type of torture and brutality was worse than reported by the CIA

the CIA mislead the White house, the senate oversight committee, and other policy makers

According to some Democratic senators who put this up for what reason? Screw them and the terrorists.

If they thought a guy legitimately knew something that could save lives, I really don't care what they have to do so long as it got accurate information. I believe that is where the debate is. Does the torture render accurate information? Todd Jihad very well could just say whatever it is that he thinks will make you stop water boarding him.

Sure he could. But let's say I was waterboarding you. I'd have a few things I wanted you to tell me. I already know a couple of them but I'll ask you anyway. I would let you know right off the bat and I knew some things I was asking about and if it turns out you lied to me about anything we will be back here and it will go on a lot longer than it has this time. Are we clear?

They don't just ask questions and get answers and say okay. They do ask some questions that they already know answers to. There are checks and balances, and verification. If the guy is bullshitting, they will find out.

8 dems and 7 reps make up the Senate Intelligence Committee

Steve you torture someone enough and they will tell you anything to get it stop(even if they don't have the info you are looking for)

Read my statement above. Any bullshit will be found out. And they were not tortured but put through some uncomfortable procedures. No glass up the dick, broken bones, eyes gouged out, wood underneath the fingernails.

And your statement has been found to be incorrect.

"FM 34-52 Intelligence Interrogation, the United States Army field manual, explains that torture "is a poor technique that yields unreliable results, may damage subsequent collection efforts, and can induce the source to say what he thinks the interrogator wants to hear."[4] Not only is torture ineffective at gathering reliable information, but it also increases the difficulty of gathering information from a source in the future."

At what level do you consider an Iraqi (etc) a suspect? Enough of a suspect to torture him?

Now, would you torture an American citizen at that same level of suspicion?

If we're gonna be a symbol of liberty and freedom we should at least be consistent.

All your quotes are horse shit. I'm well aware of the United States Army Field Manual. Spent quite a bit of time in the Military. You read too much into a political release of information that is all it is.

Still what I said and die hard confirmed is true.

Also why did the White House insist upon covering some up for public view?

You offer no evidence, just some politically motivated release of a senate sub committee findings and some wikpedia definitions.

Plus two studies that show that torture does not work.. I can always add more if you like

such as the University of Texas- https://www.utexas.edu/law/centers/humanrights/events/speaker-series-papers/Hajjar_Does%20Torture%20Work.pdf

Add all you want, I disagree and so does the CIA and people in the know.

So this college has tried torturing people for information? Doesn't seem very academic
