THE BROWNS BOARD

Fresh draft perspective...

ok....FA isn't done by any means, but we do have a clearer vision on what outr needs will be in the coming draft.....also starting to get reports about who the browns are looking at.....

they are starting to schedule private work outs, which usually means they're pretty interested...

So, some names now being associated with the Browns are...

DJ Humphries....OT.....so, he's gotta be a consideration at 19....(private wo scheduled)

Devante Parker...WR....surprising?.....a possibility at 12 or 19 perhaps....(private work out)

We also just attended Kentuckys pro day, which basically featured....

Alvin Dupree and Z'Darius Smith....both top rated DE's....possible options for early and later picks

And sent a group to the Louisville pro-day to watch....

John Miller - OG

James Sample - SS

Gerod Holliman - FS

Lorenzo Mauldin - OLB....add Parker to the mix and Louisville has a lot of interesting talent.....Browns could be interested(and apparently are) with anyone of these guys....

They also sent a coach to northwestern to watch.....

Ibraham(sp) Campbell - SS.... mid round hitter...

Gotta say this kind of adds fuel to my inclination they're going for a safety....though I can see us tapping a SS first....going along with the prospect that Desir is the future as Gips back up.....

They also attended OSU's pro day and had a full contingent of offensive coaches...

Devin Smith - wr

Michael Bennett - DT

Jeff Heuerman - TE

Evan Spencer - WR

So, thats what I got now....but, I think, some good insight.....definitely looking at WR - DE - SS - OT

What round do you think Devin Smith? Heuerman? I think Smith might not make it of the first round if the Patriots need a wide receiver.

I really liked Smith early, when he was a mid-round possibility....now, though, you are right....he is creeping dangerously close to the first round...at this stage, it's just who gets enamored with who....I think both the Pats and Ravens are candidates to grab him in the first....

I like Heuerman too.....maybe it's just because Ive seen more of him....but think he'd be a great 4th round grab

I wonder how many Pro Days we are attending to see someone other than the name players there. Using the name player(s) as cover to suss out some under-the-radar kid.

probably as many as they can....the smaller ones with only a player or 2 and the private work outs are much more tellling...

none the less, they cant go them all....so if they're there, someone is on their list...

Part of the reason I left Alabama and UCLA off the list....both obvious that we'd attend....

UCLA....with Hundley and Obioo;fkkfk...(DE)....

and Bama has like 12 guys who declared and a bunch of em are draftable....could field a whole team from that group, so not even trying to guess who .....ha!

Draftable... sure, but kinda different having Cooper and then a bunch of other guys from BAMA.

Of their pack though I have to admit that I really do like one: Yeldon. Just have a feeling that he is going to emerge from the RB herd... as a 3rd down back initially and maybe more with time.

As an Ohio State alum, along with my father and several relatives we never miss any games. Not since Woody Hayes. I really like what Smith and Heuerman could add to the Browns. It seems every year the Browns pass on players from Ohio State and they end up in Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Just once I'd like to snatch a player from the clutches of the enemy. If I were Pettine or Farmer I'd pay close attention to Urban Meyer's recipe for success. And while college recruiting and development differs from the NFL, you still need to be able to recognize talent for the long haul. John Hart was successful in the same way with the Indians of the 90's.

The Browns future rests on Ray Farmer and he needs to hit a home run this year in the first round. His overall draft last year with Bitonio, Desir, Kirksey and West were pretty darn good for a "rookie".

It would be fantastic to see Farmer and Pettine around for long enough to build a perennial contender.

my first round scenario would go something like Kevin White and Danny Shelton, Malcom Brown and Devin Smith, Davante Parker and Eddy Goldman. Because I think the best wide receivers will be gone in the second round and we need a number 1 badly. But with 10 picks we could add some quality players in this draft.

and dont forget collins...safety.... ;)

Dont know much on Yeldon....but can Cleveland handle another Bama RB?....HA

LOL... well might help that Yeldon is more likely to bring Merton Hanks to mind than TR.

Collins... yeah... I do tend to forget about him, but he's falling and we don't need him.

seems like OSU players work out fine..........outside of ohio.

time to curb that trend. just like urban curb-stomped everyone in the big ten and the whole flippin nation.

gotta keep the big boys in-state.

Even with the signing of Starks, I hope the first/2nd round is all about making the defense stronger with a BPA in there as well. I think Parker is a great player, but if Bowe becomes a Brown I think we can nix a first round WR (at least in Farmer's plan). I see the draft going DT, DE/OLB, and OT or ILB in no particular order which I would be just fine with. If we can just frikin hit on the first round guys this year to strengthen the defense.

I can appreciate this homerish perspective.....I also would love to have some Buckeyes ripping it up for the Browns......

Im like you....once you watch these guys play at a high level every week...year after year......it's easier to develop confidence in their game over some other player whom you've never heard of....all things being equal, it just makes sense to go with what(who) you know....

And OSU has put soooooooooooooo many great players into the NFL ....so many......that, yes, it would be nice to have some of the good ones here....

Id be happy to take Heuerman....or Smith....or Bennett....:)

Humphries in the 1st? No thanks.

Parker wouldn't bother me so much.

Dupree? Again, no thanks.

Z'darius... I just don't understand why he's climbing boards. I saw very little that would make me excited about him as a prospect, especially for Pettine's defense.

My guess is that Arik Armstead will be available with our second-round pick, and we should take him if he's available.

First round should still be DT/OL regardless.

Then we could let Rubin and Taylor go, because they're both terrible.

WR are shiny hood ornaments not worth drafting.

They play again next year you know. Are you wagering on Va. Tech to win? It is going to be played in Va.

I'm a Hokie, born and raised in Virginia and root for the Browns in the NFL. That being said, I think you guys will absolutely demolish us this year. Our offense has sucked balls for years now, how we managed to pull that one off last year is beyond me. I was watching with my fiancee and after the game I told her "barring a National title this is the biggest win I will ever see." It gave me hope we were going to have a good year, then we went straight back to being the same ol' offensively inept Hokies while y'all went on to win the title destroy everybody else and win it all. I do not see us pulling it out at home. Our home field advantage has kinda got to sh-t the last 3 years due to our pitiful play.

I'll admit that if Shelton is there at 12 you have to take a look, if he is take him and try to make some moves with our surplus DL...if he's gone though I really don't think there's anybody else worthy of that 12 pick. Especially if one of those awesome OLB/DE types is still on the board. There's another guy that they think may slip to the middle of the 1st who can play both DE and OLB besides Beasley, can't think of his name right now but he's basically thought of just as high a prospect as Beasley. We have too many fucking DL and precisely 2 OLB'ers. And Mingo is a cover guy so he's the edge specialist. We absolutely have to address that position early in the draft if, as it appears, we're not gonna do anything in FA there.
