Zombo
Best special teams player in Browns history and possibly league history. Never has anyone combined being the very best at kickoff returns, punt returns AND being the best cover guy on kick coverage. And he was one tough hombre. The Gipper
Retire? Hell...right now he could probably do better than the guys doing our KRs and PRs. To paraphrase Archie and Edith Bunker: "We could use a man like Josh Cribbs again".
jrb12711
I'll never forget that return at about 1:00 minute in against Pittsburgh. That was truly a "holy shit" type of play. Glad to see him retire as one of our own.
mjp28
Josh Cribbs brought back memories of Eric (and Terry) Metcalf. Enjoy your retirement and see you at a mall soon signing stuff for cash!
cambridgeho
He was a Warrior and he loved Cleveland. He would also beat up on the Steelers. I wished he would have developed into a decent wr or safety. Best wishes in his endeavours.

gumby73
Take it to the Cribb,Josh!! Could you image our Browns travelling to KC and hanging 41 on somebody? Well it happened 12-20-09(merry xmas, again) Cribbs was already on the map as the best ST returner in the league but i never had a doubt after this one. Game had it all..Jamaal Charles 25-154 yrds. How bout our own RB "Send it in Jerome" Harrison 34-286 YRDS. with 3 TDS. Cribbs took two "to His House", both KO returns 100 yrds. in 1st qt. Than Josh got us back the "Uncle Moe" before half on a 103 yrds. KO return (absolute thing of beauty) Cribbs had 4 PR for 36yrds. 6 KO returns for 269 yrds. with 2 TD's. BTW-Browns Win 41-34..Never did like the way Josh (literally) got taken out of the league ..But damn, these our the games we want to remember Josh Cribbs going to retire today..Congrats Josh Cribbs, Always a Cleveland Brown (be proud to put the Cribb's Jersey on. They will never catch you )

I wished he would have developed into a decent wr or safety. Best wishes in his endeavours. Indeed, just like when Metcalf got Bobby April fired. Too bad the Browns lost just about all the games vs Pitt in his time here. Plus, he was great in the community. All the school kids loved the guy when he visited. Zombo
Better than Leroy Kelley? Don't think so. OK, that's just stupid. Let the adults talk here. Zombo
The Gipper
Better than Leroy Kelley? Don't think so. Better than Leroy Kelley as what? A KOR/PR....ST player? Yes. Better as an All Pro Running back/offensive talent? No.
The Gipper
Kelly was a hell of a return man, as was Roberts. But neither were as good as Cribbs. Cribbs is the ALL time NFL leader in Kickoff returns for a TD, more than Gale Sayers, more than Bobby Mitchell, more than anyone (tied for #1 with Leon Washington) (Kelley had -0- KO returns for TD) Cribbs and Kelly are tied with 3 punt return TDs. A better comparison may have been Eric Metcalf who is #2 all time in punt return TDs (Devin Hester is 1st) NOrthcutt and Mitchell also had 3 each. I don't find where The Flea had more than one. Cribbs is #3 all time in combined KO and Punt return yards. (Brian Mitchell and Alan Rossum only ones ahead) For a career, Cribbs and Kelly were close in punt returns in terms of average: Cribbs 10.7 yards per return career average, Kelly 10.5. In terms of average kickoff return. Cribbs is 26th all time with a 26.4 average, Roberts is 46th with 25.5, Kelly is 127th with 23.5. (Sayers is #1) We are talking about the guy as an all around athlete. As far as return performance goes, Kelly was impressive, and it was a lot tougher to return the football in those days. Well, Leroy is a HOF running back.....and that you can't mess with.

PoeticG
Here's to hoping that Peppers can imitate Cribbs on special teams. Cribbs is listed at 6'1 192lbs Peppers is 5'11 213lbs Cribbs ran a 4.55 - Peppers 4.46 Cribbs was the swiss army knife on Offense - Peppers on Defense This is a completed circle. Thanks Cribbs, you are one of my very favorite players.

medicineman
I was glad we had Cribbs. He did what we could ask for out of a special teamer and then some. Just wish our other guys had the heart he did, Only other guys we had that played like that were Joe Thomas, Joe J (in 06 and 07) and of course Phil.
