Columnist: Childless Americans Should Pay Higher Taxes

A Slate.com columnist says that childless Americans should pay higher taxes.

“Who should pay more? Nonparents who earn more than the median household income, just a shade above $51,000. By shifting the tax burden from parents to nonparents, we will help give America’s children a better start in life, and we will help correct a simple injustice,” Reihan Salam said in an article on Slate.com.

Alison Howard, of Concerned Women for America, and Democratic strategist Zerlina Maxwell discussed the controversial topic this morning on "Fox and Friends."

Howard said the issue isn’t about shifting the tax burden but about lowering taxes for everyone. She questioned whether it’s really fair to punish and tax people who are not having children whether they choose not to or physically can’t.

“I’d like to remind [salam], anyone is welcome to send in a check to the U.S. Treasury if they think they’re not paying enough taxes,” Howard said.

Maxwell said she believes that the U.S. should be taxing “the 1 percent” a bit higher to help children and families. She said the success of children and families helps everyone.

“That’s patriotic, that’s American,” Maxwell said.

You are an idiot - take an article written by another mouthpiece and claim it as if you know anything about it.

If I gave you $1000 you couldnt tell me what the Top Federal Income Tax Rate are, nor could you tell me how the tax breakdown is between the "affluent" and "non-affluent".

Hell, I bet you could name the 3 Stooges before you could name the 3 branches of Government.

Can you tell anyone what QE1 and QE2 were (Qualititative Easing 1 and Quantititative Easing 2?)

Get a fucking clue before you start thinking you have any solution to the Nations Debt Issues. This is why a community organzier who spends more time on vacation and spending tax payer money on vacations and his wife's wardrode are in the White House. Idiots with no clue put them there.

Go fuck yourself asshole. I put an article up there for debate, I don't agree with it and I have kids (grown). So get a clue before you spout off your cum glazed mouth.

Well, it figures - Salam is a dem vermin, and all the poor dems have babies,

and more babies, out of wedlock, to make more $$$ from welfare, etc.

So, those who don't have children are more likely to not be poor dems.

These closet socialist pigs just keep getting more and more brazen

about taking wealth from anyone who has it, for whatever reason they can invent.

Strange. I think assistance to people should be capped based on one child.

I think a good number of these idiots have multiple stupid children so they can get larger checks each month.

I believe that overpopulation is a major issue for this country and planet. I say reward people who have 1 or fewer children. Give everybody a 1.75 dependant deduction rate. If you have one or no kids, you make out, if you have 2 or more, you lose out unless your having more than one child is the result of a multiple child birth. Then you get 2,3,4...however many children are born.

Guarantee that every single child gets a college education at state expense. You have more than one other than the example provided, only the first kid does.

The world is actually getting ready to face a population crisis related to not enough people reproducing. However, I am definitely on board with not giving people on public assistance money for more children. They become baby factories for the check.

and ironically the increase in that particular population is not the demographic that wants to work hard and make something of themselves. These are the children of teenage single girls and those children are dealt a bad hand from the beginning.

I'd rather let illegal immigrants in, at least the first generation will work.

Does anyone here have more than one kid especially close in age? It's a fucking nightmare. I have not the first clue how much money you get from welfare per kid but no amount is enough to convince me to have another. Snot machines already cost so much to raise I can't imagine any amount of welfare could cover it.

I don't remember her name, but she wrote a book about the subject.

When she was young, her mother told her to go out and have babies

because she needed to help..

support their family.

She became a conservative, hard working, successful person. Tremendous story.

And very much indicative of the problem - to many people these days, it pays

to stay on welfare and have more money coming in with more children,

out of wedlock.

LBJ was as much a corrupt and stupid pres as ObaMao is.

Apparently the poor, The Young and the stupid don't have the same take as you do. That's the biggest demographic that squirts out kids in big numbers. By and large people with education and purpose to their lives do not.

Yeah the biggest cost for us so far, and we have a 5 year old and a 1.5 year old, has been the cost of daycare. I don't know about the rest of the country but here it is like having a second mortgage. Fortunately once they go into the public school system that isn't an issue anymore.

Hey here's a little hint... The people that are squirting out the mass numbers of pups aren't worried about daycare because they don't work.

And I be surprised if a 14 year old high school dropout has a first mortgage even.

Your first link didn't really say anything in regards to what we were talking abot

The second was about extreme poverty in Africa...

The third was just the google scholar search results for "poverty and childbirth"

1 like I said right there underneath it.

2 directly related to poor people having more children.

3 an entire array of scholarly articles, assumedly not from websites you dismiss, on the subject. I thought that would be helpful since you pretended to be interested in a link.

1. Underneath what? It is an article about out of wedlock births. Not the amount of kids someone has.

2. It is about the extremely poor in Africa having more kids so there is a better chance that one can survive and care for them. The situation in Nigeria doesn't really translate to America

3. Your third link doesn't help anyone. You are pulling a Cal and just posting your search results and acting like that is a source. The first study there is about the age of your first birth and your subsequent poverty rate, not the amount of kids poor people have. Maybe that study is in there, but I'm not going to search through all of these studies. I am not sure if any of those articles on the first page have anything to do with what you want. I am just saying, if this is true, then there should be a study or something, and I would like to see it. It looked for one quickly and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

No one should pay more taxes weather you make 100 dollars a year or 100 million a year it should be the same. A percentage based flat income tax. That way weather your poor or not you are affected by the elected officials that are put into office. Now that said the tax would be 0 for those under the poverty line, but they should receive no earned income credit because that's welfare.
