Bugger ran into partially submerged bush 3 times. Netted, took quick pic & released. Ran my fingers over leader checking for nicks & line popped. My old favorite (1960s, 1970s) was a small or medium red & white daredevil but living by a lake we kids got everything from the lost lure snags especially during low water. Oh just remembered an old millwright retired guy used to stop by my house with the truck with the tank on it to show me what they were stocking and where. And my dad used to fix the watchman's TV and I'd fish for FREE, naturally. Mayberry RFD? Yes it was. We also used to shoot our .22s at the lake after the closing siren. Fun, oh yeah. Mike I'm sure there are many fly fishermen who love their sport but personally I've always preferred a nice bank even more than a boat for my fishing..... .....especially if there's a nice lake about 1/4 mile from your house. I also got to be a good fish fillet guy with the knife, used a regular kitchen spoon to scale them then ready for the grill or pan or freezer. Ummmm. And fishing is supposed to be relaxing. You do not have to fly fish wearing hip boots. You don't have to go into the water. Sometimes, yes, but you can fly fish from the bank. I and my son have done so....though he was prepared to go into the water. And, is it supposed to be relaxing? Perhaps if that is what you want, then plopping a line in the water with a bobber on it is for you. But for others, fly fishing is supposed to be somewhat exciting....like some other sports. Like golf. Is golf really "relaxing"? Or playing pickup basketball. Or skiing...or whatever. Lots of different sports are far from relaxing. Yeah I imagine in smaller streams fly fishing from a bank would be possible even though most pictures show the fly guys in waist deep water. And yes on any recreational sport I guess the degree of relaxing versus excitement would be up to the individual person. I personally liked fishing out with nature, very relaxing actually it was unless you hooked something like an old boot. I'm sure some people find jumping out of a perfectly good airplane....relaxing? Edit...it doesn't seem to want to show up. The stream in question was a smaller stream...in the prairie, not in the mountains. They have a lot of trout streams that run through the prairies as well. marcus Posted July 31, 2017 Author Report Share Posted July 31, 2017 I'll be back home for a little while. My dad just passed away yesterday evening. After the funeral I plan to hit Mosquito Lake in Courtland. It was one my Dad's favorite places to fish. I plan to go throw a few lines in and reminisce.
