Duke Johnson out with a concussion

Duke played hurt all the time at Miami and I will almost guarantee you that the medical staff at Miami would have him back on the practice field Monday but in this league Duke won't be able to play a lot. He played at Miami all last season with 3 different "so called" injuries.. Elbow, wrist and ankle was last season.

Duke= North and South downhill has got him taking hard hits if his body can handle it in this league?//////// West than giggle east giggle? Only if Duke has the opportunity to prove it.

Football requires a lot of playing in pain and through injuries; but head traumas now are going to side with caution.

This is going to sound outrageous/absurd; but I wonder if there was as many head injuries back when they played in leather helmets especially since people play rugby today without helmets. What I'm getting at here is those 2 situations didn't tempt as many players to initiate contact leading with their heads (that was either minimally protected or not protected at all), On top of that, teams were more run oriented creating more of a rugby scrum congestion rather than sending fast guys on slants toward a James Harrison ready to decapitate our WR Corps (and in some instances with the crown of his helmet). Today's rules that protect passing games for the purpose of promoting more scoring puts a lot of bigger, faster, stronger athletes in open spaces inviting more violent collisions (and injuries inclusive of head traumas, broken collar bones or shoulder injuries) just like the laws of physics tell us they should.

Even long past the leather helmets, I don't remember so many guys getting this banged up in training camps/preseason games back in the 70s and 80s. There were injuries - but not nearly the volume I'm seeing this year. I never really thought football was boring when we had RBs like Jim Brown, Leroy Kelly, Greg Pruitt, Mike Pruitt. There were times when it was fun to watch a RB here that could score from anywhere on the field. Today, you get handcuffed when your franchise hasn't been able to draft the right passer. Not only that, there's been some seasons here since 1999, where tackling looked like a lost art in these open fields.

In the regular season barring head injuries they will play through virtually everything in the league. Every guy knows that he has someone up his ass waiting to take his spot. Between that fact and a full pharmacy complete with toradol and cortisone they are good to go. Hell the entire NFL is under investigation because the cabinet is essentially open door.

That hit last night would have put most guys out with a concussion. It was brutal and McCown should have just thrown that ball away.

Apparently he can catch a lot of things, including a late ball thrown a mile above his head.

Thanks, Josh.

It's football, shit happens. Might as well blame Mack too for snapping it...........

Almost forgot about that lil' fella... Agree.

Can't see going with Draughn and you simply cannot count upon a RB with concussion issues.

Typical dumb Browns drafting people with injury prone histories.. way to go Farmer.. I'm sick of our team of being the one that takes a flier on these high risk athletes.

You cant prevent getting a concussion. Its not an injury prone injury. Now that he has one it may be, but we do not know how severe it. With the new policy and procedures, they have to treat them all as if they are the worst of its kind. He is not Hardesty 2.0, that dude had torn acl's. Duke will be back by the 13th and will provide a spark for us.

In fairness to him, mccown put him on blast street with that throw. Yes, it happens...but that's not a normal wear and tear play. I'd be concerned if he got dinged early going through the hole with his shoulders down and ready for contact. That throw had him exposed. Not sure if any our wr's even get up from that play. If McCown puts one out there to Benjamin like that, see ya Travis.

It was a clean defensive play. That's Football. It was Duke's side of his head hitting ground after Josh, want it back throw. Now the questions are flying. With one of the Best OL's in Football, "Do we bring in Rice"? I still say Bradshaw is the better option but now I read he has 1 game suspension for Drug Procession. We got to have a RB, we only have West and Crow healthy with M. Johnson and we sure can't risk them Thursday?

Absolutely my thoughts! Definitely not a self inflicted injury!

The Duke has talent and toughness damn cut the guy a break

he was hung out to dry by McCown

that's B.S. and short-sighted.

thank the DLineman who cheap-shotted Greco and knocked him down forcing Josh to reel back and throw it high to get the pass over-top of the defender, and Bowe for not holding his block allowing the DB to cream the Duke of Glass.

Josh only tried to make a play and when he threw it Duke was still a viable receiver, and I don't fault him one iota for not throwing the ball away.

your opinion, and I happen to disagree. hindsight is 20/20.

Bowe could have done more considering the fact he went 4 yards and started blocking says it was a designed play meant for Duke, and Duke could have pulled it in and settled down better as well. catch a pass in traffic == head on a swivel
