1. Who is the most revered ACTIVE athlete in the world today?

Probably a soccer star... Messi or Renaldo...

2. What would be the more impressive feat: Winning 73 games in an NBA season, or going through the NBA playoffs undefeated?

73 games hands down... longer season with back to back games.

3. A. What is your favorite venue in which you have ever seen a major sporting event?

Augusta National because...

B. What is the worst venue in which you have seen a sporting event?

Old Muni...

EDIT: Have to bump Old Muni down a notch. Gip's mention of Richfield reminded me of Cavs (and Barons) games I attended in the Old Cleveland Arena... talk about a black hole...

4. It appears that the Pro Bowl will be moving to Orlando. Good move or not?

Meh... closer to Disney World so players can borrow Uni's from their wardrobe...

5. Daniel Craig will no longer play James Bond. Who is your favorite Bond? Who would you like to see be the next Bond?

Craig was easily the best since Sean, but movies were much better, grittier. However, for the charm and cool factor, Connery can't be touched.

Here is your survey for the week. Give your answers/opinions:

1. Who is the most revered ACTIVE athlete in the world today?

In the US I think it would be a choice between Tom Brady, LeBron, Curry, Serena Williams (if Tiger started winning again...he could rejoin) But the question asks for Worldwide. In that regard, I suspect LeBron could still be in the running....along with Michael Phelps.....and I don't know much about soccer....perhaps Messi or Ronaldo. Our UK friends can chime in.

But here is my final....hometown answer: direct from SVSM, my nephew high school classmate: LeBron James.

2. What would be the more impressive feat: Winning 73 games in an NBA season, or going through the NBA playoffs undefeated?

Going undefeated and 16-0 in the playoffs. It isn't going to happens, but it would be one of the most impressive feats in sports ever. You can win 73 games, but if you don't win the title it don't mean shit.

3. A. What is your favorite venue in which you have ever seen a major sporting event?

The best venue was Wrigley Field (I have fondness for the old Richfield Coliseum...but it was by no means the best)

B. What is the worst venue in which you have seen a sporting event?

The old Orange Bowl. I saw South Carolina play Miami U there. It was far more decrepit than Cleveland Muni Stadium ever was.

4. It appears that the Pro Bowl will be moving to Orlando. Good move or not?

Sure, why not. It will still really mean nothing, but you can get the Disney tie in and all the Pro Bowlers can take their kids to Mickey Mouse Land.

5. Daniel Craig will no longer play James Bond. Who is your favorite Bond? Who would you like to see be the next Bond?

Sean Connery is the best, no doubt. But Craig was like second best, and will be hard to replace. And I really am not sure who could do a good job

Here are some potentials that I see:

Colin Farrell could be very good....he has the Sean Connery vibe about him one Scottish, one Irish.

Gerard Butler perhaps...if he played it right.

Ewan McGregor?....he played Obi Wan.....he would have to be tougher for this role.

Bradley James...who played Arthur in "Merlin"......a bit to pretty boy (but no worse that Pierce Brosnan?)

Robert Pattinson....he of Twilight vampire fame. Again, he would have to toughen up his image.

Joe Dempsie.....he played Gendry in Game of Thrones

Tom Hiddleston.....he played Loki in the Avengers......and I hear he is being highly considered for the role.

Farrell is my first choice though. He is only 39...he could play the role for another decade likely.

I was thinking the actor that played Loki in the Thor movie... turns out that is the actor being most talked about for the role, Hiddleson.

He seems more Sherlock Holmes than James Bond to me.

Bonds character in the books was much more Connery/Craig. Not too tall, about 6' thinner, a bit wiry but well muscled....not really much like Pierce Brosnan or Roger Moore suave like characters. Nastier and more brutish in temperament...and appearance.. He was Scottish, and orphaned at 11. Attempts at a good formal education were made, but he is by no means uppercrust. His "learning" came in the military, in the Royal Navy.

This is more the image of Bond:

McLusky007.jpg

Today he does without the cigarettes mostly, but in the novels he was a 2 pack a day smoker.

Speaking of where the pro-bowl could be played, I'm not sure why this has to be in the same place every year. It would seem like a good thing to move around to non-NFL cities, especially markets they're trying to enter or expand into. Perhaps Mexico, for example, or an easy way to add another game to the London schedule. Maybe even China or somewhere.

Of course, in this case you would need to ensure that the level of the play is at least remotely close to the real thing, if you just ship over what happens now it'd be pointless.

Another option would be to tie it to the superbowl host city/stadium and make it a fortnight-long festival, with all sorts of shit going down, from 'catch a pass from Bernie Kosar' type sessions, to 'Q&A with superbowl winning coach...' and that kind of thing.

They did have the Pro Bowl in the same city the week before the Super Bowl for a few years....and they changed that and went back to Hawaii. Your suggestion of moving it around is good.....London etc. Only thing is, they want the game played in nice weather, that is why they were going to Hawaii. Isn't London a bit dreary in late Jan. early Feb? Mexico City could work for that, and maybe some places in China....though in checking things out Shanghai gets into the 30s in January. Not ideal.

However....with them going to Orlando, perhaps they may want to make it a tie-in with Disney. They can have the games in Orlando, Anaheim, Paris, Tokyo, and Shanghai, the newest Disney resort.

I see also that Disney has a park in Hong Kong. I did not know this before.

Yes, London in February is grey, cold and rainy. Well, any time in Oct-arch is grey, cold and rainy. It'll be around 30-40 degrees (F), with a 50% chance of rain and some wind. Guaranteed.
